Editor’s Note A

sunny week this one has been, thank God and yes we are coming into summer. This time hopefully it will be a good one. Looking forward to seeing what the fashion designers will bring out this year as I’m a real bright coloured freak, and if nothing over this side of the pond I may have to fly out for my garments. It’s very important that I look fresh as I am one of the main cast members of Birmingham’s 1st Reality TV show called The Project where I am able to highlight what I am about as a businessman and where I look to take Street Cred Magazine. This is very exciting for me and definitely come at the right time in my life. I have never been one to audition for anything but when I heard of a Birmingham reality TV programme I knew it was calling me. Look out for the show to be aired on ITV 2. There are over 50 cast members and most of them I know so it be an amazing show to be on. I am a little nervous though as I don’t know what’s going to be asked of me but they film crew say the show is going to be the Birmingham version of Towie or Geordie Shore. Woooooow this is interesting to say the least! I tell you what we got some amazing characters in this programme and of course I will give you sneaky behind the scenes of what goes on with us in this magazine. So we have Ri Ri gracing our cover only right as she

is the most talked about star of our time. Did you see her revealing diamond crusted dress she wore at the MTV awards last week? What a stir it’s created. Clearly Rihanna is looking to outshine Beyonce and be interesting what she will do to beat her publicity. Going ‘ON THE RUN’ with Jay Z on tour may not be enough, she may have to go bold. NOW THAT WOULD BE A TALK! Enjoy your weekly Street Cred Magazine as we also welcome our new writer Miss White Dee who is now apart of our team. Onwards and upwards.

the power of teamwork , networking and goal setting , who take responsibility for their future & know there future lies in their own hands. There will be a selection process for the 40 leading cast members & 20 support characters so for these roles its more important you have a good story to tell and to show you have patience, good character and make a good team member who gets on and wants to help the team. As we enter the selection process any signs of arrogance, aggression or not getting on with team or cast members intentionally will lead to dismissal from the team as this is not acceptable in any form of conduct and disrupts the team building process. We want to grow our team of strong successful people to work & party together & help each other reach our goals so being a team player is a big attribute required. There is a big opportunity here to not only be in a popular show but also for the best candidates there will be the opportunity to have their own TV show in the future. Beauty Secrets

with Gemma Aldous

BEAUTY SECRET #1: BEAUTIFUL LASHES & THE HAIRDRYER

Lemons are a brilliant beauty product. They can be used for so many things, and can be brought at your local supermarket for just 25p. Here are a few tips for using them.

Hairdryers are often associated just with drying hair but they can be used for so much more… drying nails, styling hair… Here are a few uses you might not know. 1) FALSE EYELASHES PROBLEM: Lots of people struggle to apply these well. Most people have had lashes fall of half-way through the night, waited AGES for the glues to dry, or even spent the night being irritated by ‘fluttering’ lashes that just won’t stick directly on their own lashes. It’s really annoying and doesn’t look attractive either.

1) EXFOLIATING

SOLUTION: Simply place your hair dryer on cold heat and blowdry your lashes upwards. This works because it dries them quickly, firmly setting them in place and means no waiting around or sticky eyes.

2) EYELASH CURLERS PROBLEM: Can’t get perfectly full, long, curled lashes SOLUTION: Heat eyelash curlers prior to use!! Everyone wants long, fuller, curled lashes but mascara alone won’t create the volume you long for. For best effects, you should use eyelash curlers and heat them prior to use using your hairdryer. This helps so much with curling the eyelashes and really gives amazing results, creating beautiful wide eyes.

BEAUTY SECRET #2: LEMONS

HOW TO USE IT: The acidic juice of the lemon naturally helps to exfoliate the skin, removing any dead skin cells and age spots from the face. Plus, it can also be amazing for nails. For health, shiny nails, just soak them in pure lemon juice and leave for 15 minutes. For best effects, pour a generous amount of lemon juice over some cotton wool so that it absorbs it and lay your nails on the wet wool.

(Tip: to begin with, dilute with some water as you don’t want it to shock your skin. The more you do it, the less diluted the mixture can be.) IT WORKS BECAUSE… They are full of vitamin C have antibacterial properties and the acid will help to exfoliate your skin. This treatment will help to diminish scarring and age spots, heals acne, is a natural exfoliate, tones the skin, fights wrinkles and generally brightens the complexion.

2) SOFTENING DRY SKIN If you suffer from patches of dry skin, rubbing the white pith of a lemon is brilliant for restoring the affected area to its soft and nourished self. Alternatively, if you prefer products, I recommend Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour cream (splash the cash!) or Sudo Cream (budget buy!). Both will heal the skin in no time. Apply to the dry area and then apply a foundation on top. This will protect and moisturise the dry area leaving your foundation free to glide over and not stick to the dry area.

T

he SuperTooth D4 is the newest in a range of portable speaker systems from SuperTooth, following on from it’s predecessors the Disco 1,2 and 3. The D4 resembles closely the design of a megaphone, and now had the addition of a rubber handle/strap. The main body of the D4 is made from matte plastic, with the front grill covered in fabric. Overall it is a cute speaker to look at, not too heavy and not too large, especially as it is designed to be portable! Bluetooth 4 as well as NFC compatibility connect your devices to the D4, or via the supplied

D4 3.5mm jack cable if you require it to be wired up. With the direction of the speaker primarily facing out, there is a slight loss of sound when heard from the side or behind the D4, a problem that is easily alleviated by placing the speaker in a corner. The battery charges up in a couple of hours, with battery life ranging from 3 to 12 hours, depending on the volume that you use the D4 at, higher volume obviously means shorter battery life. At only £50, the sound clarity and volume

that the D4 packs into it’s megaphone body is impressive, and can easily hold its weight with other speakers in it’s price range. Having no built in controls of its own, the only button is for turning the system on, and pairing. With USB and wall-charging available and included with the speaker, hopefully you’ll never run out of juice. Available now, the SuperTooth D4 is a great portable speaker with a decent battery life and good quality audio, pick one up for yourself now!

WHITE DEE’S COLUMN

‘White Dee’s’ Column

I

n case you all don’t know, I’m Dee from the street and I’m pleased to meet all you Street Cred readers. This is my 1st official column, so its probably going to be all over the place, but that’s how I am, all over the place. I am so honoured to even be asked to write a column, and I hope to bring you news about what’s happening in my life, and about new amazing talented young people that I have had the pleasure to meet, and also about some issues that I hold very close to my heart. Firstly my weekend consisted of attending Birmingham Pride, which I have been going to since Caitlin was in a pushchair and Mom was on her scooter, knocking everyone out of the way bless her. For obvious reasons, this year was a whole lot different to every other year I’ve gone. Birmingham Pride has been going for 18yrs and I’ve been going for 16 of them. Its a celebration of gay and lesbian rights and people from all over the country attend, whether they are gay, straight, black, white, asian or of any other denomination. They definitely know how to throw a party, and they do it

in style. It definitely didn’t rain on the Birmingham Pride parade. I didn’t realise that so many people would recognise me, want a picture taken with me and Caitlin, ask where Gerrard was. I can honestly say I must have had over 1000 pictures taken with some of the nicest people you could wish to meet. At the end of the day we all bleed the same colour, and Birmingham Pride showed the world how its done brummie style. We cant wait for next year, where its guaranteed to be bigger and better, and for the record Caitlin's favourite moment was meeting Conor Maynard and Katy B and mine was the amazing Angie Brown. On a more serious note, can you

imagine losing a son, brother, father and 3 years later still be none the wiser as to what actually happened to him. This is the case with Kingsley Burrell's family. Kingsley was walking with his young son, when an incident led to him calling the police for their

help. How then was he arrested and sectioned under the Mental Health Act and three days later he died. Kingsley had no history of any mental illness, he had so much to give, he had children who needed his guidance and are now fighting for justice for their dad. There are so many unanswered questions that need answering. Enough is enough, this family need to be able to grieve in the knowledge that Kingsley can finally rest in peace. So there it is then my 1st column done, I hope its all okay because I could go on forever. Well until next time, stay safe and keep thriving in all you do and follow me on twitter @therealdeekelly Much Love Dee

S

eems like anyone who works with Jay Z doesnt get much rest but it must be fun this kind of work. The 26 year old singer, performer, and now turned actress Rihanna is set to release her eighth studio album this year. It has been constant publicity for the barbasian icon who turns heads everywhere she goes. The down to earth pop star is who all the new generation of teens want to be. The only rea-

COVER STORY son she didn’t released an album in 2013 was because of her screen role. The new album is based on her Dreamworks produced movie titled ‘Home’ where she stars alongside Jennifer Lopez playing as a teenage girl named Tip. This is a 3D movie about a group of aliens that escape their enemies by hiding on Earth and is based on author Adam Rex’s 2007 children’s book. ‘Home’ also stars Steve Martin and Jim Parsons.

Rihanna THE UNSTOPPABLE BRAND RI RI

COVER STORY

COVER STORY So what’s to come on the new album? In terms of sound, it will be nothing short of incredible with production by the famous producers of today including DJ Mustard, Alex the Kid, Nicky Romero and David Guetta. Its been nonstop for Rihanna and after the success of her multiple sell out dates during her tours around the world means more work. To many Rihanna is bit too controversial with her dress sense, and as we discovered at the recent MTV awards , the dresses get more and more revealing. Do we hate on her because she is brave and confident, or do we embrace

it? Whatever your thoughts of what she wears will be a trending topic for years but lets just say the truth of the matter she looks damn good. Ri Ri is proving to be a new generation fashion icon securing deals with high st brands such as River Island and Dior, and of course she has her own perfume out now. The styles she comes with are definitely her own and is setting massive trends. There is no question that Rihanna will have a successful album, she is a press favourite right now and never lets fans down.

Shes come along way from being the little 17 year old who signed the dotted line with Jay-Z at Def Jam and she has actually now left the label to sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. Ri Ri is the biggest artist on Jay-Z’s label and we are now to see how she will do since her Def Jam contract has ended. To be fair she is not the hardest person to market, and if she keeps doing those almost naked appearances then its an even easier sell. The adventure continues with Rihanna and Jay Z

GET ACTIVE THIS SUMMER

C

oca-Cola Zero ParkLives Ambassador Jessica Ennis-Hill today joined hundreds of people from across Birmingham to celebrate the launch of Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives - a new, long-term programme of free and fun activities launching in parks from today. The festival kicked off at Ward End Park, Hodge Hill, Birmingham, just one of more than 50 participating parks and opens spaces across the city that will host daily activities throughout the summer, as part of the Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives programme. Hundreds of people of all ages from across Birmingham took part in the activities on offer including Zumba, tai chi, hula-hooping and rounders. The event marks the start of the national programme with Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives also launching in Newcastle and London this summer. In Birmingham, Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives has been developed in partnership with Active Parks Birmingham and the City Council. The programme builds on the success of Birmingham’s highly acclaimed Active Parks scheme which saw five parks pilot the scheme 12 months ago. The new-look initiative will now cover more than 50 local parks and open spaces and is part of Coca-Cola Great Britain’s commitment to invest £20m between now and 2020 in programmes to encourage and support people to be more physically active. Olympic Champion, mum to be and Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives ambassador, Jessica Ennis-Hill who joined the local community in some of the sessions said, “Parks are a really great place to

spend time with friends and family and so it’s fantastic that Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives is here in Birmingham offering free activities that everyone can enjoy this summer.

The timetabled programme of sessions in parks across Birmingham will run in 2014 from June to September, but in subsequent years will run from April-September.

This is all about encouraging people to be active while having fun, so whatever your age or ability there’s an activity that you can try.”

FACEBOOK or just a BOOK OF FACES?

I

like facebook! I have connected with some influential and wonderful people, met and conversed with distant family abroad, created groups, joined groups, created events and attended events BUT I cannot, I mean REALLY cannot and I’m sure that I’m not alone on this, tolerate these damn game requests! I NEVER EVER WANNA PLAY THEM! Is there a notification that the invitee gets if I play or not? I don’t know and I really don’t care! I don’t like to place blame on anyone and anything however my tolerance bar is reducing and I really believe that its due to this! I don’t even talk these facebook friends in real life! I have actually seen some facebook

friends, that send me these requests, walk past me and not even blink in my direction! I do not delete them as a facebook friend as some people can get quite offended when really all I have to do is ignore the requests, which I do do, but to delete someone, to some people, is like saying ‘don’t chat to me, you do my ‘ed in, I’m deleting you out of my life’. I consider it to be a bit extreme! Both the action and the response! I don’t like deletion unless the input is BOTH negative and DAMAGING enough to create a lasting effect BUT I also don’t like to annoy others unless I’m purposely doing it for entertainment value, which is normally left to know those very near and dear to me, my daughter!

I

just love to dig up old photographs, and this month is no exception. Look at these gems I’ve come across! Looking back is the monthly reminder to our readers of where Street Cred has been, and who it has found. In these photos you see Editor Mark Dwayne pictured with Shola

Ama, Jessie J performing on the Street Cred stage in London before she had her record deal, and Sisqo of Drew Hill holding our magazine with our star Jessie on the front cover. We’ll bring you more surprises and more stars next month! Look where we are coming from!
