hilst it may seem a slight anathema to pay good money to see a YouTube sensation perform live, Pentatonix proved exactly why the demand for live music will never fade during their gig at Birminghamâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Glee Club on Sunday 24th November. The intimate venue was packed, creating a dynamic atmosphere for interplay between the performers and the crowd. Showing their vocal prowess to perfection, the group performed a range of their songs from their albums as well as their YouTube channel. Lead vocalist Scott Hoying lead most of the discussion but bass Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin Olusola ramped up the crowd whilst Scott, Mitch Grassi and Kirstie Maldonado recovered

their voices between songs. During these recesses, Avi and Kevin both demonstrated their individual talents to murmurs of shock and awe from the audience, whose ears may well still be ringing from Aviâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s soul-vibrating performance of Misty Mountains from The Hobbit. Kevin led a solo performance of

what he was known for before joining the group; Celloboxing (Beatboxing while playing the Cello) which really has to be seen to believe how amazing it is, which then led into the Pentatonix version of Radioactive by Imagined Dragons, which includes the Cello. With over 20 items performed on the night, the group really pulled out all the stops, and combined with the little stories and interactions between them, rounded out a brilliant evening of stunning talent. The pitch of the singing and the crowd interaction from this young vocal group demonstrates exactly why they have already planned a second European tour in 2014, which will no doubt sell out as fast, if not faster than this tour. Murray a people’s champion

how vulnerability and gratitude, Andy Murray winning the Sports Personality Of The Year was a victor, for not only what he has achieved on the world’s tennis courts, but also a victory of winning over a nation who took him on face value and his youthful petulance as ‘final and lasting.’ That he won with the most amount of votes in its history speaks volumes for a man who, at 26, has gone through enough trauma a person twice his age would probably be struggling to manage, in private, let alone in the constant gaze of the world’s media. Murray initially failed to capture the hearts and minds of the English public, which makes up the vast majority of voters for the BBC’s sporting popularity gong. His light-hearted quip about England and Scotland’s footballing rivalry was taken as gospel by many and his remark about supporting England’s

opponents at the 2006 World Cup, had scribes up and down the country making him public enemy number one. While the young Murray had greater concerns in his life, the media world found it difficult to get through to him and thus created their own image of him, constantly describing him as arrogant and grumpy. Against that backdrop, he has kept his head above the parapet, in terms of reaching Grand Slam finals before winning gold for GB in the London Olympics, winning his first ‘Slam; the US Open, where he became the first British player since 1977, and the first British man since 1936, to win a Grand Slam singles tournament. To then top it off with the converted Wimbledon title speaks volumes of a young man who achieved great feats against some trying odds to then crown the year off by being voted Sports Personality Of The Year is testament a truly deserved winner. I’m sure you’ll agree.

It was an extraordinary send off for an extraordinary human being as Nelson Mandela was laid to rest in his childhood village of Qunu. At the memorial, US president Barak Obama said: “We’ve lost one of the most influential, courageous and profound human beings that any of us will ever share time with,” whilst actor, Idris Elba, who plays the great man in the film; ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,’ said:”What an honour it was to step into the shoes of Nelson Mandela and portray a man who defied odds, broke down barriers, and championed human rights before the eyes of the world.’’

Tata Madiba At the funeral, Mandela’s long-time friend and former cellmate, on Robin Island, a tearful and emotional Ahmed Kathrada, eulogised: “He was born into a royal house and there was always that sense about him of someone who knew the meaning of leadership. You symbolize today and always will ... qualities of forgiveness and reconciliation. I’ve lost a brother. My life is in a void, and I don’t know who to turn to. I’ve lost a brother.”

Born in 1918, Rolihlahla Dalibhunga Mandela, linked with the royal House of the Thembu people, will go down in history as one of the greatest human beings to ever walk the earth, showing the highest level of forgiveness, humility, and human will the likes of which is unlikely to be witnessed again in generations to come. Kian; A ‘King’ with style and finesse

n being crowned this year’s ‘King Of The Jungle,’ Kian Egan, has been deservedly lorded throughout, for not only his feats in the Australian outback, but, for the class and humility he showed from start to finish. The Westlife heartthrob proved a fitting winner after beating fashion designer, David Emanuel, in the final of the ITV show; I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, After his long three weeks camping in the jungle, many people’s favourite, Kian, beat off the Royal designer in what was a memorable series, for a

number of reasons. The Sligo-born singer, the voice of reason whilst all around him were losing their collective heads, proved worthy of the ultimate accolade despite the equally cultured and reserved approach taken by him and his rival in the final show. He described his experience as; “Just amazing. Everyone in the jungle was kings and queens.” And they were united in their joy for Kian as he was announced to be the winner, leaving him in tears as he received his crown from last year’s ‘queen of the jungle,’ EastEnders actress, Charlie Brooks. “It was the best three weeks of my life,” he said and that “everyone should do it, even you two” pointing at presenters Ant and Dec. Runner-up, Emanuel, famed for designing the late Princess Diana’s dress for her royal wedding, to Prince Charles, said Egan “was a great guy - he thoroughly deserves it. Going on, he said: “I was ‘honoured’ and I couldn’t quite understand’ how I got so far. ‘King’ Kian confessed that he had not expected to beat reality TV star Joey Essex in the outback. “I have a fan base of Westlife fans but nothing like what Joey has - he has over two million followers on Twitter, I have 250,000. That’s still a lot but even so he has 1.75m more than me so it’s like, what has happened? It’s way beyond my expectations. I never expected to be in the final, never mind winning it. It was absolutely gobsmacked.” Dec said: “He coped with everything with style and finesse.” That’s because that is how he carries himself.

e all talked about Alfonso Ribeiro’s ‘Carlton Dance,’ Joey Essex’s ‘conversating’ moments, Laila Morse (aka EastEnders’ Big Mo) ’s frank and succinct appraisals of all in her world, ‘Rear of the Year,’ Strictly Come Dancing’s Vincent Simone and our ‘brief’ encounter, snooker legend, Steve ‘Interesting’ Davis’ hilariously funny stumbling throughout, Annabel Giles beating double-Olympic swimming champion, Rebecca Adlington in a water-based trial and the obligatory ‘bush tucker trials – that of the eating variety. Amy Willerton’s ‘contraband-gate,’ after she was caught out, ‘bang-to-rights,’ sneaking chewing gum into the camp, Mathew Wright’s constant ranting and the other multitudes of critters, lizards, snakes, rats and other foreboding creature that we love to see suffer...the presence of cringing ‘d-listers.’ As their respective agents cracked open endless bottles of champagne, they all, individually and collectively, said that they didn’t know why they were doing the show. At least the final two incumbents – winner, Westlife’s Kian Egan, and runner-up, fashion designer, David Emanuel - showed great restraint and dignity to the end. Admittedly there were plenty of celebrities who

would have been a better watch, but sending this lot Down Under into rat-ridden pits and snake-infested swamps and serving them up a three-course meal of the jungle menu’s finest delicacies was a treat all the same. Declan Donnelly says: “People often ask what the secret of our success is, and I used to put it down to just something that happened, but reflecting on it, I think it’s friendship. Ours is a career built on a friendship, not a friendship built on a career.” This year’s line-up was said to be the best ever. You decide.

his years X Factor was filled with laughter, excitement and of course, controversy, as per usual! In the start we had a wealth of talent, including Hannah Barrett, Tamera Foster and Luke Friend (who Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve got to say was my personal favourite!) The show has become a must-see for many families up and down the country, but for me it can be a little bit upsetting how so many talented people fall by the wayside at the whim of just 4 judges. This year, the judging panel was a little bit more respectable than previous years with the reintroduction of Mrs O, who clearly was having the time of her life, especially after going on to win with her act, Sam Bailey. Her relationship with Louis Walsh was as vibrant as ever, as they laughed, giggled, kissed and poked throughout the series. Nicole Scherzinger this year has worn her heart on her sleeve, and has turned out to be a fantastic judge. There is a fine line between critical response and

putting someone down, and she has found the perfect path to take. Her final performance with Sam Bailey on XXXXX from Dreamgirls was a beautiful collaboration between two powerful and magnificent voices. Many people have wondered what the final would have really been like, if Sam Bailey was vocally challenged by Tamara and Hannah the real singers in the competition. Rumours have it that this was a strategy to have weaker singers that would not necessarily be a threat in the final, . Further more Mrs O needed to win this year has it was said she was the only judge that has never won. Luke friend was the happiest 3rd place finalist ever on the show, he has earned his place as a solo recording artist, and Nicholas will never look back as he is a little lovable diamond who sure can sing Congratulations to Sam on winning the tenth series of the X Factor, and good luck with the Christmas number 1!

he magic of Neverland came to the NIA in Birmingham this month for 3 nights of wonderous delights. The multinational cast brought the story of Peter Pan to life in front of thousands, utilising cutting edge special effects and a brilliantly designed stage to great effect. For the UK leg of the tour, Stacey Solomon plays the narrator, Tinkerbell, who remains unseen for the majority of the production, although her unveiling and performance of Westlife’s “You Raise Me Up” is well worth the wait. Sandor Sturbl as Peter, and Lilly-Jane Young as Wendy put in stunning vocal and physical performances, both on the ground and in the air.

Touted as the first time Peter Pan flies without wires or a harness, this incredible feat is achieved with the help of a wind turbine that is built into the set. Riding on a high-speed jet of air, Peter performs a series of backflips and somersaults as he rises up to 10 metres above the stage. The turbine was custom-made for the show by a company in Latvia, whose equipment is sometimes used to train astronauts! As well as the turbine, the show also uses a new, state-of-the-art 3D zip-line flying system, which enables the performers to fly above all areas of the enormous

stage. With a musical score including “Our House” by Madness, “Sailing”by Rod Stewart and “Angels” by Robbie Williams, this really was a truly spectacular event enjoyed by both adults and children alike. VIP Meet and Greets were available before the show, allowing special guests to enjoy a buffet fit for the Lost Boys, before photo opportunities with Hook, Smee, Peter, Wendy and Tinkerbell. A stunning evening, and one that will live on for a long time in the memories of all who attended,

because after seeing Peter Pan flying without wings (or a harness!), maybe we all felt like being that child that never grows up!

he Prismatic Princess of Pop, Katy Perry, is bringing her second UK #1 album - PRISM - on tour to cities up and down the UK as The Prismatic World Tour, so to inform Street Cred readers as to what to expect from Katy’s tour in the New Year! On the heels of 2010’s Grammynominated Teenage Dream, Katy’s life took a turn down a road of selfreflection in the creation of PRISM, not only creating a compilation of songs that reflect her inner light, but also refract a colourful and mesmerising wave of change in her music and life. “I did a lot of figuring out who I am and reconnecting with myself and growing,” she says. “I’ve let a lot of light in, and through that it’s inspired me to write certain songs that are full of that wonderful positivity.” Katy’s hometown of Santa Barbara, and the location of the studio in which she wrote Teenage Dream was the setting for most of the albums creation, “I kind of go back to the essence of myself out there. his months spotlight interview features the winner of the “ViewMyGig” unsigned artist competition 2013. ViewMyGig would proudly like to introduce to you female solo singer Naaz.

4. I would watch singers on television and I quickly developed a love of music and singing. I would climb up the couch and start to sing really loudly (and very out of tune haha), and that is when I realized that this is what I really wanted to do. I used to be a really horrible singer though, kids in my school would simply laugh at me when I’d sing and call me names. Also, my brother was always was very hard on me, with a good intention of course, for me to get better. He would be critical of my singing so I’d try to improve myself and looking back I’m very glad he did that as he taught me to never give up. When I was 6 I wrote this song called ‘Love is for everybody’ and that was really the first song I ever wrote. After that I wrote many other songs too, but when I was about 9 I wrote a song called ‘No more war’ for my school talent show and won! Although I still secretly think that my teachers let me win out of pity… hahaha.

For the readers can you tell us a little background information about you and what you do? Of course! I’m a 15-year-old dreamer, born and raised in Holland, and originally Kurdish. In school I study A-levels and on Fridays I work as my dad’s doctors assistant. Besides that I work day and night on my music and school, because I really strive to achieve my goals, and would do anything to succeed. How old were you when you first developed a passion for music? Looking at videos of me as a child, I can see that I developed a passion for music from the age of

What artists or who inspire you? The number one artist that inspires me is definitely Demi Lovato, Through the years she has helped and inspired me so much that I can’t even put it to words. I don’t think anyone can ever do what she has done for the world, but I am definitely going for it. As I always say, you can’t be a loser when you try, even if you fail. After all I don’t think one can ever really be a loser at doing something. I believe that when something is done with your heart and soul, nothing is wrong about it. I think I know the answer to this question but If you could make music with any artist past or present who would it be and why? Demi Lovato! She has given me so much strength with her music and it would be the greatest honour to be able to help other people together with her, the legend. This is one of my biggest dreams, I can’t count the number of times that I have gone to sleep earlier in hope to dream about this. Best nights ever! Have you any plans to release a single or an album? What would your 1st album be called? Yes! I’m working on my album right now actually and I am planning on releasing many singles before the album! I’m going to keep the name secret though, since that is what I always do. Also, my album is going to be very different than most albums out there, you’ll see! Have you performed in any live gigs? Have you any gigs planned in the future? Yes! I’m actually going to be performing in front of the mayor of my city in January. Also I’m going to perform

Although, I really strive to make a name for myself, I want to share my music, share my intentions, and try to help and inspire people with it. Would you enter a TV talent contest for example The X-factor? No. I think they are great shows but I really want to try to get there without things like this. I also don’t want to be forgotten after a few weeks, I want people to remember my name and help and inspire them everyday through the day. To really be part of their life, drawn on their heart. ViewMyGig can hear a hint of Leona Lewis in your voice. Who would you say your voice and style of music is similar to? I actually don’t really know. I don’t really have a certain style of music, since all of my songs are actually completely different from each other. I also really have no idea who my voice is similar to. I don’t really want to compare myself to others though, me and my voice are what they are and I don’t think people should ever compare themselves to other people, since everyone is unique in their own way.

What makes you different from other unsigned artists out there at the moment? I feel kind of awkward answering this question as I believe my fans can answer that better than me. But my goals and style are quite different than other people I think. What are the benefits of being able to upload you music to YouTube? I think YouTube is so fun and so good because it really is a place where people can express themselves in their videos and I find that very important. It is a great place to start with music and try to make a name for yourself, although I find it very hard, the fun makes that invisible to me. Tell me about your beautiful song Nobody Said? Nobody Said is a song very close to my heart, I wrote it with my brother since we were going to do a duet, but then he decided that he wanted me to do it on my own. I made a video on my YouTube where I explain the meaning behind the song, because it is a very deep meaning. I really strive to be able to save and inspire people with the lyrics and the song itself. As an unsigned artist yourself do you have any advice to give others who want to make it in the music industry? Work hard and give everything your all, take even the smallest details like little performances seriously in order to get taken seriously by others as well. Live for living life. I know that sounds very strange but with that I mean, enjoy life, make something out of your life and work for your goals! The music industry is a tough industry, and I appreciate that it will take a long time to be successful. Maybe I will be successful and maybe I won’t. But don’t focus on that. Focus on the process, how amazing it is to work for your goal. And focus on constructive criticism, since it’s to help you. And last but not least: NEVER give up. Finally you are a member of ViewMyGig. What do you think of VMG and how does it help you? I absolutely adore VMG! It is an organization that helps unsigned artist like me. Sure, it can be an intimidating environment, especially if the person is beside you running in her spandex shorts, with her six pack on show and a full face of slap on! I mean come on... we’re not in a movie, this is reality. But if you are surrounded by this brand of person, then try and flip it to your advantage. he V12 Vantage is being updated to S specification, yet it doesn’t look too dissimilar from its predecessor. Benefitting from Aston Martin’s favorite party trick, the 2014 S model is the most powerful member of its venerable family and is said to be the fastest Aston Martin ever built—with the

notable exception of the ultrarare One-77. The furrowed hood of the new model continues to hide a naturally aspirated 5.9-liter V-12 engine with modest roots—it’s assembled on the premises of Ford’s production facility in Cologne, Germany. Power increases from 510 horsepower

at 6500 rpm to 565 horses at 6750 rpm. Peak torque jumps from 420 lb-ft to 457, with max twist arriving at 5750 rpm. The former model’s six-speed manual transmission, a smooth-enough unit, is replaced by a seven-speed, single-clutch automated manual transmission called Sportshift III. It’s derived from the ’box found in

First of all, Gravity is more than a mere movie - it’s an experience. It is a true work of art that is as nightmarish as it is beautiful. Director Alfonso Cuarón has crafted something truly sensational. His direction is flawless and often left me awestruck at how he was able to create such beauty. Every scene and every moment is meticulously choreographed and impossibly executed. What Cuarón has accomplished here is quite unbelievable. In emulation of Cuarón’s impeccable direction, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney both give impeccable performances. Their characters are completely different, yet they are forced to become one in order to survive. All they have is each other and it is won-

derful to see these wildly different characters interact and develop a bond in the wake of disaster. They change each other. Clooney is an impossibly confident veteran who is constantly in control. Whenever something goes wrong, he knows exactly what steps to take in order to keep them alive. Bullock on the other hand, is on the opposite side

New salon a cut above for ex-student

former Walsall College Hairdressing apprentice has used the skills gained on her course to set up a brand new hair salon in the local

area. 31-year-old Laura Robinson has opened up Churnhill Hair Salon, in Aldridge, after completing her Level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing in 2000 and then coming back to Walsall College five years ago to take her Level 3 Assessors Award. The salon, which offers a range of treatments, opened in early November and Laura has now enrolled her own apprentice 16-year-old Mia Herald on the same course she studied at the College’s Wisemore Campus. She eventually hopes to take on extra staff as the business grows. She said: “I was a manageress at a salon for around eight years and so this was a natural progression for me. My course at Walsall College gave me a great level of basic skills and has allowed me to develop the career I have now. Having my own business now is rather like a

blank canvas and the challenge now is to build up the client base and become a part of the community which is really exciting. Mia didn’t have to study at Walsall College but they are very good at making courses bespoke for the businesses needs so in the end we decided it was the right option.” Mandy Cresswell, a Hairdresser Trainer Assessor at Walsall College and Mia’s new tutor, said: “Laura is a great example of how an apprenticeship can equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to progress quickly in their chosen careers, support a business meet their objectives, and have the confidence to eventually set up their own businesses. Just as with the Cisor and Twist before it, you’ve really got to hear the Jet twins in action to believe what they can achieve. Holding the Jets in your hand gives out a wimpy sound, but you find the right surfaces to place them on, and you’ve got a pair of the loudest speakers you’re going to find, especially with such a miniscule size. Celebrity endorsed Hot Chestnut seller, ice cream van man, and star of his own range of childrens books, gus bodur talks to street cred about his star studded life For our readers, can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do? Hi, my name is Gus Bodur & I am 50 years old. I’ve been with my beautiful wife Inez for nearly 18 years. We have two beautiful children, Chloe aged 15 and Oliver who is 8. I was born in Whitechapel in 1963 and worked with my late father on the streets of London from the age of 14 selling fruit & veg from a fruit stall and chestnuts from a traditional brazier. Nowadays I sell ice cream from a vintage ice cream van in the summer (which I’ve done for the last 35 years) and still sell chestnuts in the traditional brazier in the winter. I was quoted “the best chestnut seller in London” by Antonio Carluccio when I worked outside his restaurant in Covent Garden. Since then I’ve worked alongside many famous actors at lots of red carpet premieres including Saving Mr Banks and The Polar Express with Tom Hanks, and A Christmas Carol with Jim Carey. Me and my wife have received a letter from Prince William to thank us for our charity donations and work over the years to Centre Point and Great Ormond Street Childrens Hospital. I will soon be at St Pauls Cathedral

for my 15th year raising money for Breast Cancer Care. You started out at the age of 14 on your fathers licenced fruit and vegetable stall in the heart of London’s West End, what made you decide to do what you do? I love my father and the work he did. I couldn’t read or write as I was dyslexic, but I had people skills from working on the streets of London as a street trader. My father had a licence, No.1691, with Westminster City Council. His pitch was outside Lyons Corner House opposite the Prince of Wales Theatre, Coventry Street, between Leicester Square and Picadilly. He was a licenced holder from 1970 to 1994. He was there for 24 years but just before the opening of Planet Hollywood (Trocadero) Westminster City Council said he failed to renew his licence by one day (not true!). My late father fought in the second World War, and this is how he would be paid back. That stall meant the world to him and he was heartbroken, until a few years later he died.

You make donations from the sales of your childrens books to charity, which charities do you support and is there a reason why? We support Great Ormond Street and Centre Point, we feel that this is the right thing to do.

You’ve met a whole host of celebrities during your time selling Ice Cream and Hot Chestnuts, who has been your favourite and why? Hugh Jackman - A living legend and a gentleman. I met him when he had just finished filming Australia with Nicole Kidman. He loves chestnuts and was very impressed with the work I do. Had lots of time for me, a real gentleman, and a good looking one too! An absolute star. There are a range of books written about “Gussy the Ice Cream Man” How did these come about? My wife Inez came up with the idea, but we were focusing on our other brand - Golden Balls during the 2002 World Cup. Our daughter Chloe got some of my old photos of me and my Ice Cream Van, and cut them out to make Gussy ABC and Gussy 123 books for her little brother Oliver.

You have helped out a number of charity events, film premieres and music videos, what made you decide to do these? Again, it was Inez’s idea! Carluccio quoted me “The best chestnut seller in London”. Inez set up a web page for me and the rest is history! If there was a movie made about your life, which actor would you get to play you? Daniel Craig, Mr Bond 007. What advice would you give someone who is looking to start up their own business? You must really love your work, then your work will become a hobby. Remember that your customers always come first as they pay the bills! Where can our readers find you for some Hot Chestnuts in the winter, or Ice Cream in the summer? During the winter, you can find me selling hot chestnuts at the ExCeL London, and during the summer you’ll find me at Hampstead Heath on Spaniard Road. He was, by now, welcomed in by the reggae fraternity with legends like Freddie McGregor and the late Gregory Isaacs calling them ‘one of their own.’ Now fully established, Maxi would perform with stars like American soul legend Roberta Flack and jazz man, Lee Ritenour His latest album, ‘Maximum Collection,’ is out now and very much worth a listen, with a new album coming in 2014. ome of the biggest names in music appeared in a recent poll which shows the top 10 earners in reggae music. By way of US dollars, the survey compiled by entertainment company, Urban Islandz, revealed those who made the most through sales of records and money earned through live performances, putting them amongst the highest earning artists, period! Top of the list was US based singer, Shaggy, who was said to have earned US$22million, with names from both yesterday and today following close behind. The legend that is Jimmy Cliff comes in at number 2 earning a whopping US$18million, Sean Paul is third with US$11million and the first appearance of a Marley; Ziggy earning a cool US$10million. Brother Damien comes in sixth, behind Sean Kingston and just ahead of British-based reggae crooner, Maxi Priest. Surprisingly, lower down the list of reggae top 10 earners were names like Buju Banton, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer who is at 10 with a ‘mere’ US$3m in his back pocket. They are just some of the top artists who sold millions of records, toured successfully and have gone into successful business.

treet Cred Magazine attended The World Travel Market 2013 at the ExCeL in London expecting an insight into the culture, attractions and people of the diverse world we live in, and that is exactly what was delivered. From one side of the world to the other, nearly every country you can think of was represented, not just by their tourist board, but by individual businesses showcasing their talents on a world stage. From independently owned hotels, to multinational hotel chains, as well as resorts, villas, and logistics businesses, the whole spectrum of everyone who makes up the tourism sector was on show. With stunning displays of cultural dancing, clothing styles, music and beverages, there was something to see, hear and learn at every single stall. For those that have never been to London ExCeL, it is huge. You may be thinking, well it’s an exhibition centre, of course it will be big! The ExCeL has approximately 90,000m2 of floor space, which in laymans terms is close to the size of 12 football pitches! 12 football pitches crammed full of the crème de la crème of world travel and tourism. Some of the standout exhibitors included the highly stylised stands of Iraq, Fiji, Costa Rica and Sultanate of Oman, which really drew you in with the design and dressing of their stands. Alongside the precise and clinically finished stands of exhibitors such as Etihad, Jamaica, Abu Dhabi and Qatar, there really was a feast for the eyes and brain as you can see. Whether you were there to make connections, to pick out your next destination, or to exhibit yourself, the World Travel Market 2013 turned out to be a huge success for everyone involved. To really give yourself time to get around the whole of the World Travel Market, prepare to spend at least 2 days at the ExCeL, you’ll need it!
