Kelly Rowland’s ‘incredible soul’ has died
W
ithin the space of one month, singer, Kelly Rowland has experienced the extremes of emotions as, having celebrated the birth to her baby son, Titan Jewell Weatherspoon, her mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, died at the age of 66, at her home, in Atlanta, Georgia, days before her 67th birthday. In a statement, the 33-yearold former Destiny’s Child group member said that her mother was ‘an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices.’ She said: “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison. She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today,” Rowland said in a statement Wednes-
day. “We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time.” Kelly and her older brother, Orlando, were raised almost exclusively by Doris after their parents divorced in 1988, moving them from their Atlanta home one year later and relocating the family to Houston, Texas. Kelly stayed close to Doris as her star rose, within the group and solo. On a photo, dated October 21, 2013, Kelly wrote the caption: ‘#AlwaysMamasbaby Loves my Momma!’ She would always say: “I have three parents — Tina and Mathew [Beyoncé Knowles’ father], and my mom — three wise people to help me.” “We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time,” she said in the statement.
Beckham boy, Brooklyn, enjoys double company in first public appearance since escaping injury in car crash with dad Well, it’s one way to get over just avoiding serious injury in his dad’s car as Brooklyn Beckham is seen leaving a charity event in London in the company of T&T. He was spotted leaving the ‘A
Night With Nick’ event at the Café Kaizen, with the 15-yearold ‘Son of David’ apparently in good spirits as he hopped into his waiting car with Scottish singer Tallia Storm and blogger Tessie Hartmann.

Stephanie, yes, Stephanie favourite of Goal of the Year
T
here’s an unfamiliar name on the FIFA’s Puskás Goal of the Year shortlist that you wouldn’t, in any other circumstance, be expected. The name of Stephanie Roche is up against the likes of Dutch star, Robin van Persie and Colombia’s James Rodriguez whose respective wonder-goals were the talk of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this year. Roche, 25, scored her magical strike while playing for Irish women’s team Peamount United in October last year, in front of a poultry crowd of 92 and making up the top three candidates. Fortunately, though, for her, her manager, Eileen Gleeson, filmed the match,

thus capturing the ‘magic strike’ for all to see, on YouTube. If she wins the vote, she will become the first female to earn Fifa’s Puskas award. The winner will be announced at the world governing body’s annual awards in Zurich on 12 January. The Irish international, who plays soccer for the French professional team ASPTT Albi, said: “I’m happy my goal is getting recognition, it’s brilliant for me and brilliant for women’s football. It’s a great achievement and I hope people will continue to vote for me.” Former Republic of Ireland great Paul McGrath and ex-England stars Rio Ferdinand, Gary Lineker and Matthew Le Tissier are among those who marvelled
at Stephanie’s skill after viewing the grainy footage of the goal. Football pundit and former Wales, Arsenal and West Ham striker, John Hartson, said of the goal: It is an unbelievable goal. Both feet, over her shoulder. It is totally instinctive. The technique and contact required to volley a ball that is coming over your head is amazing. It is the best of the three.” “It’s only just sinking in that it was a good goal and it’s getting the attention,” Roche said. The winner will be announced on 12 January 2015.

GET ON The chronicle of James Brown’s rise from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history.
H
eavily anticipated for the soundtrack alone, ‘Get On Up,’ the new, a biography of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown has hid the big screen.
The life and times of the man who left an indelible mark on soul, funk, jazz, R&B, rock and rap, influenced generations of bands and stars like Michael Jackson, Prince, Mick Jagger, Slave Funkadelik and Cameo is about to be told and it’s no thanks to one of the afore mentioned. Seen in areas as a rebuke to the dreary rags-to-riches plod of the biopic, in which the only smiles are those through tears, no portent of future greatness left undelivered, no demon unconfronted...warts an’ all. Starting off as it means to go on, the pace remains frantic throughout from Brown’s early days as a draft in Vietnam, through his years drug-filled, and making music that reflected the mood of the nation including the afore-mentioned Vietnam atrocities, the riots in Watts which spread across the US, the impact of historical icons of the time such as Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King Muhammad Ali, JF and Robert Kennedy the Panthers and his desperate need to create a sound that represented the era. Rolling Stones legendary front-man, Jagger, has poured millions into the movie in order for people to get an idea of the impact he made on music, and lifestyle. Packed with blistering big-band performances of songs such as Sex Machine, I Feel Good and Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, who plays Brown from ages 16 to 60, and gets his husky drawl, screaming singing voice and frenzied dancing down to a tee. ‘In my mind, I didn’t know how you would even approach those dance moves,’ Chadwick said. The out come? You need to judge for yourself. The incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Directed by Tate Taylor and written by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth ‘Get On Up’ has an ensemble cast also features Nelson Ellis as Bobby Byrd, Jill Scott as Dee-Dee Jenkins, Dan Aykroyd as Ben Bart, Violet Davis as Susie Brown, British actor, Lennie James (from The Walking Dead) as Joseph “Joe” James, Keith Robinson as Baby Roy, and Octavia Spencer as Aunt Honey. As far as biopics go, ‘Get On Up’ is up there as one of the best. Filled with intrigue, emotional nostalgia and thumping bass-lines, yes...it’s up there. SO, TAKE THAT TO THE BRIDGE!!!

ARE YOU SWISH? S
W I S H meaning, according to Urban Dictionary online is an adjective to define fashion! I personally think SWISH is a verb, adjective and adverb – I SWISHINGLY SWISHED over to SWISH with my SWISHETTES! Ha! Ha! The weather isn’t SWISH at all! I would like to take this time to really think about your life and where it’s going! Is it where you want it to be or is it on the come up? Sometimes people can frown or raise their eyebrows at another man’s dreams, WHY? No matter how outlandish it may seem to one does not mean that mean that it is unachievable! I tell the adults and young people I work with all the time...
SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY! Children, I have had the pleasure to work with, don’t get the metaphor and bring it back to harsh reality with a cheeky statement such as ‘I ain’t no butterfly, I can’t fly, I don’t wanna fly either,’ then they suddenly go off on a tandem and say ‘unless it’s in a plane I wanna go to Euro Disney or Disneyland but that’s far!’ Kids ay!
