two football questions

John: There are two great debates going on: the college football playoffs are in their first year and, “Who is the National Football League’s Most Valuable Player?” It’s a very hot race between Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. Which intrigues you the most?

Russell: The college football playoffs. They got 12 teams and the top 25 will be posted soon. The MVP, it’s too early. We’re in Week 10; we get to Week 17, I will let you know how I feel.

Allen: I am going with Russell. College football playoffs are more exciting. The Most Valuable Player is sort of like the election. I didn’t let the election worry me. I woke up and Trump was giving his victory speech. That’s like the MVP. You can sleep on it and Google it. Not too exciting. College football you get to see a lot of action. So, I will go with college football.

William: I think I will too. [But] I don’t like the way they redid the conferences. I can see fixing it to have the same number of teams in each con-

ference. But having a team in Honolulu and some team in the Philippines in the same conference scattered that far apart? It’s like the New York Mets can be in the NL East and the New York Yankees in the NL West. This way they can be in the same league and can play each other. We’ll put the Milwaukee Brewers in some tavern somewhere. That will decide where their division is. If it’s in Milwaukee, it will be in NL Central. If it’s in Phoenix, it will be in NL West. If we want to get that goofy with sports teams, let’s just go all the way and make it a Bozo Show.

John: I am more intrigued by an inaugural college playoffs season, because you have 12 teams. The number 11 team in the country could actually win the title in January, when it would have been all over for them in late September before.

I still find the MVP intriguing because you have two play-

ers on the same team: Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry both play for the Baltimore Ravens and might win, or be co-MVPs. I also don’t find Josh Allen that exciting a player. I wish Patrick Mahomes were having a better year.

Russell: Thursday night, November 7, we saw a good game between Cincinnati and Baltimore. There’s your MVPs right there. The Bengals’ Joe Burrow, they were down by 7 points, bam! Tied again. Lamar Jackson had 4 touchdowns, Burrow had 4 touchdowns. They kept scoring. But anyway, I am still sticking to my college football playoffs. Like John said, anybody’s got a chance now.

Allen: I like you mentioned Lamar Jackson. He deserves MVP. He’s one of my favorite quarterbacks.

William: To make the odds more even, they should have put 16 teams in each confer-

ence. Each conference would have its own Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four. Then all the winners of each conference could play each other and finally when we get down to the final two conference champions, they would play each other. It would make it last longer. We might still have football in March. It helps me to get through the cold weather season to have something exciting to enjoy.

John: College football playoffs would have been even better if they had kept the original conferences. UCLA playing Rutgers makes no sense, or Texas playing in its third conference in 25 years.

Russell: There’s no home team advantage. Everybody’s got a chance now.
