Rest, Reflect, and Radiate Gratitude
Life is busy—between work and everything that makes up our personal lives, we often neglect to take time to rest and reflect. As someone who is always on the go and/ or faced with a long to-do list, I definitely struggle with this and I know I’m not alone. While “taking a break” is meant to be a time away from all of the noise and daily demands that drain our energy, it sometimes feels like another item on the list that is just clumped in with all of the other demands. It takes a bit of mental coaching to obtain a healthy outlook on slowing down enough to really rest—and with rest comes time to reflect.
While November and December are daunting months because of the holidays, there is an urge to reminisce that comes with the end of the year—the closing of one chapter and the opening of another. It’s obviously great to look/plan ahead and focus on future goals, however, it’s also important to look back and take account of what the past has taught you up until this point. What is something you have overcome in the past year? What have you accomplished this year? How have you grown? These are all great questions to ask yourself as you take time to reflect.
In addition, reflection goes hand-in-hand with gratitude. What have you been thankful for this year? With Veterans Day this month, I am especially thankful for the men and women who have served in the armed forces of this great country and dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms. We take our freedom for granted every day because we don’t know what it’s like to not be free. Freedom is a beautiful thing, and we should never stop fighting for it—whether that is on a battle field or in a courtroom.
I’m also thankful for the people in my life, whether that be family and friends, the women in my Bible study group, the folks at my
gym, or all of the amazing clients, readers, staff, and fellow business owners I’ve formed relationships with throughout the 30 years of running the magazine. Who are you thankful for in your life and, even more importantly, how do you show them you’re thankful for them? It’s easy to say out loud what and who we are thankful for, but real gratitude happens when it is put in action. As John F. Kennedy said:
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
An honorable way to express gratitude for the blessings in our lives is to give back to those who do not have the same fortune. Omaha has so many amazing nonprofits that provide services and resources for people in need. From veterans to children, there are individuals in our community who need help and support.
Following Thanksgiving is #GivingTuesday, a global movement of generosity. I encourage you to give back on this day and be a part of inspiring hope in our community. In the same vein of supporting local nonprofits, I urge you to shop local as well—especially as you start to buy gifts for the holidays. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our community. If we want to keep them here, we have to do business with them. Strictly Business features many of these wonderful local businesses month to month in the magazine. So flip through and take note of the names and faces you see.
I wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving, and I hope each of you takes time to rest, reflect, and show gratitude before the end of the year.

supporting OPPD’s work to become a net-zero carbon emitter by 2050.
Work is well underway for OPPD’s first solar facility. Platteview Solar in Saunders County will supply 81 MW of generation capacity. The PwP team is working on procuring the major equipment needed for the project. OPPD is also developing a plan for ground cover at the site, which includes a pollinator mix.
The natural gas generation project has completed the process of delivering nine Wärtsilä reciprocating internal combustion engines to Standing Bear Lake Station, a natural gas generation balancing plant under construction near 114th St. and Military Rd. The utility worked with Wärtsilä, large equipment movers, government officials, and law enforcement to complete the work safely and efficiently.
In late fall, two Siemens simple-cycle combustion turbines and generators will be moved to the other new natural gas generation balancing station location, in Sarpy County. Turtle Creek Station is south of 168th St. and Fairview Rd. Both plants will be completed by 2024.

The 7,000-square-foot branch began construction in April, 2021. The location includes a full-service retail branch and drive-thru with Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs), as well as commercial lending, mortgage lending, and business banking solutions.
“The addition of our Maple branch gives us a dynamic presence to serve the fast-growing area of northwest Omaha and Elkhorn,” said President and CEO Carl Sjulin.

Michele Magner Coaching Introduces Inspired Caring Program for Families of Seniors
Michele Magner Coaching is releasing a new program, Inspired Caring, to support caregivers and families whose parents live in senior living. Starting on Monday, January 16, the 12-week program will launch via Zoom at 1 p.m. for all who are enrolled. Each session will provide specific tools, tips, and resources for navigating the family caregiver experience and making the most of caring for an aging family member who is either receiving in-home or hospice care or at an assisted living, nursing home, or a memory care facility.
“When family members are cared for and have the support and tools they need, it elevates the senior living experience for everyone involved, including the family, resident, and staff,” said Michele.
As a family caregiver for 20 years, Michele navigated everything from dementia, terminal cancer, repeated medical crisis, moving loved ones out of their homes, years in senior living, and everything in between. After working for seven years in senior living, Michele discovered the gap in services that are offered to families caring for aging parents and the emotional support they need to be successful. With her personal and professional experience combined with her gerontology and dementia education, she is passionate about helping others on this journey.
Michele Magner Coaching is built on three core values: integrity, connectedness, and faith. To learn more, visit www.michelemagner. com or connect with Michele directly to enroll in the Inspired Caring program at (913) 963-3916 / michele@michelemagner.com.

Nelson Contracting Introduces First and Only Hail-Proof Shingle
Nelson Contracting is excited to introduce the first and only hail-proof shingle on the market. Eurshield Vermont Slate HP is a new 50-year warrantied shingle made from recycled tires (which reduces the amount of waste in landfills) and the only shingle on the market that’s legitimately hail-proof versus simply hail-resistant.
Think of the advantage of a roof equipped with a hail-proof shingle, especially in a hail-plagued state like Nebraska!
Vermont Slate HP features a photorealistic, slate-textured surface at a price between asphalt and premium products like metal roofing, synthetics, cedar, and slate, but unlike those materials, Vermont Slate HP is factory warrantied against hail impact damage of any size for the first 20 years. It then reverts to the standard 30-year warranty for hail of two inches or less. This is the only legitimately hail-proof product available that offers a warranty against any size hail!
Nelson Contracting has over 40 years of roofing experience serving eastern and middle Nebraska from locations in Milford and Lincoln. To find out more about Euroshield Vermont Slate HP, call (402) 704-3447 or go to nelsoncontractingllc.com.

This will be a time to honor veterans and network with other professionals. If you know a veteran, bring them with you! Cost is $20 a person.
As a son of a career veteran, Ron served in the U.S. Army for 25 years with an MOS of U.S. Army Calvary Scout for most of his career. While in the military, he suffered several debilitating injuries. However, his injuries have motivated him rather than slowing him down.

Besides finding them sufficient housing, they collect furniture, clothing, and household items to provide a complete home for a homeless veteran to move into. One hundred percent of all donations received go toward helping veterans, and non-personnel operations of Moving Veterans Forward. Ron is aspiring to develop additional ideas toward further helping veterans become self-sufficient.
The Omaha Empowerment Breakfast is a non-membership networking opportunity held monthly on the first Friday with great speakers, great food, and endless connections. Midlands African Chamber Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Heartland Integration Center
Midlands African Chamber hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 27 to celebrate the grand opening of the Heartland Integration Center’s facility located at 1941 S 42nd St., STE 300. HIC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in reaction to the reality that many immigrants and refugees never fully integrate into the communities in which they now dwell. As a former refugee and immigrant, Pierre understands how stressful and frantic settling into a new country can be. He believes that adequately integrating immigrants and refugees into our American culture will help build more robust and better communities.

JAmie
Jamie Morrissey N EBRASKA REALTY
Meet Jamie Morrissey, REALTOR ® at Nebraska Realty on The Shawn Ilg Team.
Tell us a little about your business. - My primary interest is in the commercial real estate and investment property space. When I got my license, I wanted to work with a team that wasn’t only focused on one area of the business. The team that I am on allows me to provide a multitude of services to my clients, in addition to real estate. My team and I can assist with business sales, HR, cybersecurity consulting, financial services, and we also partner with an outside law firm. My broker brings several years of experience, and allows me to learn about all the different areas and provide the best experience I can for my clients. My main goal is to help my clients be successful and build their businesses in whatever way I can.
How did you get started in the business? - My background is in risk evaluation and that plays a role in how I see real estate. I got started because I wanted to invest in real estate for myself but also help others with the same goal. I love helping others work toward their financial goals and build their business, whether that be obtaining residential or commercial real estate, or leasing a space for their businesses to grow in. Once I found my broker and my team, the things I could do for my clients have taken on a life of their own. I can now provide more services than I would have thought when I first started.
Tell us a little about your family. - I am from Omaha and my family has been in the construction industry my entire life. I got to see my family members build businesses from the ground up and it’s been an inspiration to me, not only to find my own career path, but also to help others do the same in a way that is true to who I am. The city is growing and being revitalized and it’s exciting to witness and be a part of.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spend time with my family and my dog. We like to go to the zoo or drive around town and look at houses.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I am a strength coach and I weight lift competitively.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - It’s cheesy but, “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.” In my limited experience, I have found this to be true. When I am staying true to myself and I am whole-heartedly pursuing my goals, doors open at the right time, things fall into place, and I find fulfillment in all areas of my life.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens has been my new favorite book and I am excited to see the movie.
What is your favorite movie? - The original Top Gun What is your favorite local restaurant? - Lisa’s Radial Cafe

Theresa Loughran MC GILL L AW
Meet Theresa Loughran, the senior attorney and mediator at McGill Law.
Tell us a little about your business. - I am passionate about collaborative family law. The parties should put together their own parenting plans and property settlements which allows them to control their futures and destinies without court involvement. I enjoy guiding them and facilitating the collaborative divorce process to enable them to “untie the knot” and not sever it.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve face professionally? - The biggest challenge is spreading the word in the community about collaborative law. Many attorneys are stuck in the traditional litigious mindset. I am engaged in the International Association of Collaborative Attorneys Leadership Academy and plan to do my best to educate others about this process.

Tell us a little about your family. - I am married to my husband Dan. We have four children—John (24), Ellie (22), Lucy (19), and TJ (14)—all born and raised in Omaha.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I like to spend time with my family and take my dog on walks. I also enjoy reading and visiting my daughters in college at KU and Creighton.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I’m pretty much an open book so people know most everything about me.
Who inspires you? - Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks because they were strong women who fought “the good fight.” Also, my deceased uncle Judge Murphy who used to tell me to “be kind to everyone, you never know the cross a person carries.”

History of veterans Day: World War I—known at the time as “The Great War”—officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars."
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…"
An Act (52 Stat. 351; 5 U. S. Code, Sec. 87a) approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as "Armistice Day." Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War I, but in 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation (Public Law 380) on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. (Source: www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/vetdayhistory.asp)
At Strictly Business, we believe it is not only important to honor the military men and women who have given their life to defend our country, but also the veterans who were able to walk away after fulfilling their duties, making many sacrifices of their own. This Veterans Day, take the time to say thank you to the vet in your life, whether they're a family member, friend, co-worker, neighbor, or even a stranger. If it weren't for their service, the United States wouldn't be the great, free nation that it is today.
The businesses listed here make it a priority to support the veterans in our community, whether that be hiring veterans or offering discounts for veterans. Many of these businesses are owned and/or run by veterans themselves. Join us in supporting the local businesses that support our veterans!

From elegant mirror booths to 360 video booths to self-service stations, FotoFunSpot can provide great entertainment for all types of corporate and social events.
Experiential photography comes in many forms and can be much more than a photo booth on its own. Integrating a photo booth into a group activity adds a new spin on an otherwise familiar game. For example, consider having a scavenger hunt and using the photo booth as a way to document the “finds” from each participating team.
When people “think” photo booths, it is usually in the context of a social event, like a wedding, holiday party, or similar celebration. FotoFunSpot photo booths are also solid marketing tools.
Brand
Working with your corporate activation team, FotoFunSpot can integrate a photo booth into a marketing experience to create brand awareness. Photos can be inserted into a branded template that matches the style of, and commemorates the event, along with recognizable elements from your corporate brand.
data ColleCting
As part of the photo booth experience, guests can be asked questions like when they last purchased a new car? What if you knew they prefer caramel over chocolate? What information would help you better connect with your customers? FotoFunSpot photo booths can ask your guests for feedback as part of their photo session.
SoCial engagement
Social media is all about engagement and making connections with your guests and creating future customers. With a FotoFunSpot marketing activation, each photo taken includes an invitation to follow you on social media. The same can be used to easily direct them to your website, or even specific sections, such as your now-hiring job board.
A FotoFunSpot marketing activation is a great way to create a branded, commemorative content that serves as a miniature billboard every time the image gets shared and viewed.

The Epilepsy Foundation Shines Light on National Epilepsy Awareness Month
The Epilepsy Foundation is striving to further awareness of the challenging neurological condition that is epilepsy. November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month, so it is especially important to educate the community about how epilepsy could be affecting those around them.
Epilepsy affects more than just physical health. Along with the uncertainty of seizures, medication, and treatment side effects, epilepsy can affect a person’s mental health in many ways. The power of community can bring hope to those experiencing the challenges of epilepsy. For National Epilepsy Awareness Month, learn a little bit about epilepsy with these facts from The Epilepsy Foundation:
• 1 in 10 people will have a seizure and 1 in 26 will develop epilepsy during their lifetime. Learning seizure CPR can save a life.
• There are 470,000 children in the U.S. living with epilepsy.
• Epilepsy receives 10 times less funding than other brain disorders.
• Awareness is needed to raise funds for care, advocacy, research, and education.
More information on epilepsy can be found at epilepsy.org.
The Epilepsy Foundation is a national voluntary health agency dedicated solely to the welfare of the nearly 3.4 million people living with epilepsy in the U.S. and their families. The Foundation works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences and to promote research for a cure. CenterPointe Gears Up to Celebrate 50th Year of Service in 2023
The year 2023 will mark CenterPointe’s 50th year of providing services to Nebraska. They are grateful for another successful year and look forward to the new beginning that 2023 will bring.
This year, CenterPointe has served 4,418 people, housed 472, and received 2,779 calls on their crisis hotline. The call for more mental health, substance use, and primary care services has never been greater and CenterPointe has responded to that call.
As their mission and services have continued to grow, there was a lack of space to serve everyone who needs it. In 2019, CenterPointe discovered the solution to providing more and better services to the community at 11th and South St. and purchased the historic Trabert Hall. Since that time, they have been planning an extensive renovation. CenterPointe initiated a $13 million capital campaign to fund the new Campus for Health and Wellbeing, which they will be moving to in March of 2023.

Immigrant Legal Center Merged with Refugee Empowerment Center on October 1
On October 1, Immigrant Legal Center (ILC) officially merged with Refugee Empowerment Center (REC) under ILC leadership solidifying services and support for immigrants in our community. Through this merger, they will bring together a wealth of expertise, experience, and resources that allow the staff to provide a holistic blend of high-quality services to their newest friends and neighbors in Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Open Door Mission Opens Holiday Volunteer Opportunities
With the price of gas, groceries, and overall living expenses going up, Open Door Mission will be helping more people in the community struggling to make ends meet during the holiday season, and they need the support of volunteers to do so.
There are many ways to be involved as a volunteer at Open Door Mission this winter. Help consumers choose their food options as a Turkey ‘N’ Fixins Helper, help fill and hand out more than 5,000 to-go containers with a delicious pre-cooked Thanksgiving meal for Feed the Multitudes, or serve a holiday meal. As a Toy N Joy Impact Maker, you can help greet parents and help them pick out Christmas presents.
See the complete list of holiday volunteer opportunities at opendoormission.org/holiday-volunteer-opportunities-2, or contact Amy Harvey at (402) 829-1511 / volunteer@opendoormission.org.
Open Door Mission is a gospel rescue mission that meets the needs of individuals and families while inspiring HOPE for lasting change. Wear Yellow Nebraska Seeks Support for Cab Ride Program
This year, Wear Yellow Nebraska will be participating in Giving Tuesday on November 29. They will be fundraising to support the growth of the Wear Yellow Cab Ride Program to provide transportation to and from treatment for cancer survivors.
In addition, donations to Wear Yellow Nebraska have the opportunity to be matched. Whether you donate $5 or $500, every bit helps towards their $5,000 goal.
As a cancer survivor, co-founder and past president Mike Buckley had the idea to start funding cab rides for cancer patients who were without access to transportation, a need he discovered during his own treatment journey. Access to rides to and from treatment are essential because patients are in a weakened state and often times left unable to drive themselves, which also leaves them vulnerable to lapses in vital medical care. Even if patients do have family and friends who can help, they aren’t always available. Since launching the free cab ride program in 2012, Wear Yellow Nebraska has provided more than 13,500 cab rides to Nebraska cancer patients in need.
Wear Yellow Nebraska is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a clear focus on niche initiatives that offer cancer survivors support in ways that were not being addressed and for people who would otherwise fall through the cracks, truly caring for an individual’s special circumstances. To learn more about the event or the organization, go to www.wearyellownebraska.org or contact them at contactus@ wearyellownebraska.org / (402) 965-1699.
Kids Can Expands Mentoring Program at New Community Center
Kids Can Community Center is excited to announce that it is expanding and enhancing its site-based mentoring program at its new facility. Kids Can matches children ages 7 to 13 with volunteer adult mentors who promote positive relationships, encourage self-esteem and confidence, and engage in goal setting activities. All potential candidates are interviewed and must pass a background check. Mentors also receive training and ongoing staff support.
Mentor match meetings are typically conducted once a week for one hour at Kids Can where they decide on activities together. Through this approach, the greatest in-depth impact can occur as mentees learn to establish and maintain a relationship with an adult who cares and supports them.
As we are about to move into our new community center, we are looking for adults interested in becoming mentors. You can make an incredible and long-lasting impact on a student by becoming that experienced and encouraging person to support them in their endeavors!
This project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number SLFRP0230 awarded to the City of Omaha by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging Seeks Meals on Wheels Delivery Drivers
The Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging (ENOA) is in need of individuals to help deliver a nutritious meal to older individuals in the community. Drivers deliver meals Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ENOA is searching for both volunteer and paid positions.
As one of the nation’s 622 Area Agencies on Aging created by Congress under the Older Americans Act, the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging serves individuals and families in Douglas, Sarpy, Dodge, Cass, and Washington counties. ENOA’s role is to ensure that older adults, caregivers, adults with disabilities and those with the greatest economic need have access to a continuum of services that help them to remain active, live independently with dignity, and to remain for as long as possible in their own home.
The Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging serves as a gateway to aging services that already exist in the community and operates its own programs such as nutrition programs, care management services, volunteer opportunities, and community services that fill previously unmet needs in the five-county area. The caring, professional support ENOA provides to the oldest members of the family can also help relieve the burden of caregiving on younger family members. For more information, visit www.enoa.org or call (402) 444-6536. You can also follow ENOA on Facebook (@enoaaging) and LinkedIn.
Youth Emergency Services Seeks Support For National Homeless Youth Awareness Month
Youth Emergency Services (YES) invites the community to learn more about youth homelessness in Omaha throughout November, which is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month and National Runaway Prevention Month.
“During the month of November, we invite the community to stay engaged with our social media for statistics and stories about runaway youth and youth homelessness,” says Kalisha Reed, executive director. “You can also support these youth by purchasing items off of our holiday wish list, which is available on our website.”
Each night, hundreds of youth in the Omaha metro are homeless or runaways. Many have been physically, emotionally, or sexually abused, making it unsafe for them to return home. Others are facing health, mental health, and substance abuse issues. Without proper support, these vulnerable adolescents will likely fall into the cycle of homelessness as adults. As the only nonprofit in Omaha with the sole mission of helping homeless and nearly homeless youth, YES provides human trafficking survivor support, job readiness classes, intensive case management, mental health services, nursing services, homeless prevention services, and community connections.
Youth Emergency Services assists youth experiencing homelessness and near homelessness by providing critically-needed resources which support them in their desire to be self-sufficient. For more information, go to yesomaha.org.

The next two months are filled with opportunities to create memories with loved ones and spread joy around the community. The holiday season sneaks up on us quickly, and sometimes it is hard to buy in to the season right away. The quick turnaround from the autumn holidays to Christmastime can leave many people unprepared, but there are resources to help you get a head start in many different areas.
We spoke to employees from businesses around the Omaha area to get their insight on how to embrace this time of year.
Hanging Lights and Creating m emories
You may be ready for the holidays, but how about your home? Decorating can be time-consuming and creatively draining, but Santa’s Elves Lighting has everything you need to get your home shining bright.
Santa’s e lves Lighting offers Christmas light decorating. They consult, design, install, remove, and store lights for their customers. This year, they are offering lights where each bulb turns eight different colors. They are one of the first companies in the United States to offer this new type of lighting. In addition to holiday lighting, they also provide patio lighting, weddings, graduations, proms, and other decorating lighting.
As a small business owner, Dennis Zabawa knows the importance of giving back to the community. Santa’s Elves Lighting does charity work such as decorating a few homes for veterans for free every year. In this way, they are not only putting up lights but also creating memories. Actions like these emphasize the amazing contributions local businesses give to the community.
Santa’s Elves Lighting
“The importance of spending locally is that a majority of the money is kept in our community. Not only that, but we love to connect to our clients and make sure they are happy with not only the decorating but also how the employee did while at their house,” said Dennis. “That’s something you can’t get from a box, or a big corporation selling these services online.”
Another perk of working with a small business is knowing that their employees are trained specifically for the service they’re providing. Santa’s Elves Lighting makes sure their employees are experts on all things lighting before heading to your home.
“You won’t see us mowing your lawn, washing windows, or anything else in the off-season, just to be putting up Christmas lights to help keep our staff in the winter and hope that they have the skills and desire to ensure the house is the best looking it can be,” shared Dennis. “We train them to present the best final product for the only service we provide. We also have a guarantee that using us we have a warranty of no lights ever out, and if any problems with our product we will replace it free of charge, season after season.”
For those that are tired of untangling masses of lights and precariously hanging off of a ladder in order to make your home ready for the holidays, Santa’s Elves Lighting will be there for you from start to finish.
Look and Feel Your b est
The last three months of the year should be approached like a marathon, not a sprint. Pushing hard on the gas pedal early could result in burnout or disdain for the holiday events to come. To avoid this, it is important to take care of our bodies during this exciting and stressful time.
At Harmony m ed Spa , they have everything needed to get you feeling great throughout the season. They offer immunity IV drips and immunity injections to boost your immune system and keep

While many people associate the holidays as a busy time of the year, not everyone has plans or events to attend, and that’s okay. Making sure to take time for yourself is equally as important throughout the year.
“For those whose loved ones cannot be near, it’s important to participate in some self-care to show yourself kindness and love this holiday season,” suggested molly Florent , RN. “We have many services to promote the health and wellness of your mind and body. Don’t forget to be your best self this holiday season.”
Molly and the team at Harmony can not only help you feel your best but also look your best.
Shooting For the Perfect Gift
Having an outdoors lover in your life to shop for can be a blessing and a curse. There is so much stuff out there to buy for someone who enjoys hunting, camping, fishing, or anything in between, and new products and technologies are being released every day. However, how do you know what they already have? What’s the difference between a bowie knife blade and a Wharncliffe knife blade? These are things you can’t exactly ask your loved one without them getting a clue about what you’re planning on putting under the tree for them.
Luckily, the employees at D e GUNS can help you find the best gifts that will impress all of your family members on the 25th.
Molly Florent Harmony Med Spa
"To prepare for the holiday season I make sure to stay hydrated, get Botox and facials at least two weeks before an event, and remind friends and family to schedule with me at Harmony Med Spa,” said Molly. “I am passionate about what I do and I want everyone to approach the holidays this year by feeling and looking their best."
A new offering from Harmony this year is the Semaglitude weight loss program. Semaglutide is a once-a-week injection that has been shown to be more successful for weight loss than any other medication on the market.
Putting a lot on your plate, literally or figuratively, during the holiday season can have adverse effects on your mind and body. Trust Harmony Med Spa to provide you with the best care to get you on your feet and ready for all the joy that comes with the holidays.
DEGUNS is an online and retail dealer and distribution center. They have over 1,000 guns on display and over 10,000 in stock. In addition, their inventory includes clothing, hunting gear, ammo, body armor, sporting goods, knives, safes, tools, and more. The knowledgeable staff will help you find exactly what you don’t know you’re looking for.
If you aren’t looking for a physical gift, DEGUNS in Lincoln also boasts an impressive gun range on their property. They offer experiences like a self-defense demo range where you can try out guns without committing to a purchase. There are also occasional classes focusing on different types of guns and how to operate and store them safely.

“Instead of signing a physical book, guests leave their messages as they would on a real voicemail for the hosts, sharing their favorite family memory, or leaving advice for younger generations,” said m itch m iller , owner. “After the reception, the guest messages are paired with a photo and turned into a video suitable for sharing on social media platforms.”
Getting together with loved ones to celebrate the holidays is one of the best gifts one could ask for. Make sure those special moments at your next event are remembered for years to come with FotoFunSpot.

They provide collision repair, including estimates, priority space for collisions, and insurance relations; and headlamp reconditioning to increase safety while driving your vehicle.
Small businesses are some of the biggest contributors to the local community, so choosing to support them during the busy holiday season can not only help them, but can improve the community in general.
“Supporting local merchants keeps the dollars circulating in your area through wages and other spending,” Owner Chris Hunke said. “Giving back to the community can help you understand what the holiday season actually means to you, and how you’ll decide to spend it. Reach out and connect with someone you have been thinking about and catch up with them. It’s all about building a community.”
Ditch the flashy, trending gifts this season and get your loved ones something personalized and thoughtful. Some of the best gifts are the ones that we don’t think about asking for, but really need. Fixing up their car will make a lasting impact on their day-to-day life for years to come.
m ake Your Home Shine
We all love to make our homes cheerful, inside and out, around the holidays. This could mean putting up Christmas decorations around the house, or it could just be basic lawn care associated with the fall and winter seasons. Call in Deluxe Landscape Design to make your home shine with a healthy yard and beautiful outdoor look! Especially if you are hosting the holiday festivities at your home this year—take something off your already-busy plate and let a professional do the heavy lifting. Your guests will be in awe!
You can also gift landscaping services to someone in your life this Christmas. If you’re shopping for someone who definitely doesn’t need more “stuff”, this could be a perfect, practical option.
Since the holidays usually have us bundled up inside and our yard might not be the number one priority right now, thinking ahead and reserving service for the summertime can be a huge help once the snow melts away. Deluxe Landscape Design offers a wide range of services for lawn care and landscaping, including seeding, sod, fertilization, aeration, mowing, trimming, mulching, and retaining walls.
“No job is too small or too large, and we will get the job done right the very first time,” said Owner Chris Ansell “Our team prides ourselves on providing outstanding service in a timely manner, and giving you a finished product to be proud of.”
Holiday lighting is another thing that Deluxe Landscaping Design can help you check off your list this season. They offer holiday lighting services as a distributor for Brite Ideas Decorating and Holidynamics, allowing them to wholesale LED Christmas lights at a reduced price.
Light up the Night

We can help both residential and commercial clients with their holiday lighting. I encourage you to take advantage of this service much sooner than later, and to call our office to learn more about all of our amazing options!”

m oving Your b ody, Improving Your m ind Exercising has obvious positive effects on our bodies, but how does it help the brain?
According to a study by Harvard Medical School, exercise boosts your memory and thinking skills both directly and indirectly. It acts directly on the body by stimulating physiological changes such as reductions in insulin resistance and inflammation, along with encouraging the production of growth factors — chemicals that affect the growth of new blood vessels in the brain, and even the abundance, survival, and overall health of new brain cells. It also acts directly on the brain itself. Many studies have suggested that the parts of the brain that control thinking and memory are larger in volume in people who exercise than in people who don’t.
When it comes to getting exercise at an older age, there can be a number of obstacles that hinder your performance. To help eliminate those obstacles, explore the options available and talk with the trained experts at See The Trainer .
See The Trainer has a variety of sports medicine products that can help seniors who want to live an active lifestyle protect
themselves from aggravating a past injury or a weak part of the body. They also offer exercise products, such as exercise balls, shoulder pulleys, foam rollers, and more, so you can stay fit right from your home!
“If you are a caregiver of someone with memory loss, it may help both you and your loved one to have products that can assist with daily routines,” suggested Owner Kristie e gan . “We carry helpful items such as shower chairs, sock aids, canes, dressing sticks, reachers, and toilet safety seats.”
Find what helps you or your loved one safely exercise and live comfortably at home with the products available at See The Trainer. You’ll be moving your body with more ease in no time!
Help at Home
Maybe your loved one isn’t ready to be in assisted living, and you’d like to keep them in the familiar place that they know and recognize. Being the sole caregiver of a loved one with memory loss can be difficult and overwhelming. If you find yourself looking for extra help, CCA Home Care’s Nurse Registry can match you with the right caregiver to help you look after your loved one. The Nurse Registry screens and refers caregivers who work for families. The care is client-directed, ensuring that you make the decisions regarding your care for that of your loved one. This unique service has proven time and again to be of superior quality as evidenced by CCA’s reputation for providing valuable care.

“Clients that we begin services with are typically just starting to notice the difficulties of living independently in their own homes and are starting to need assistance with their daily activities,” said Kyle Johnson , president of CCA Home Care. “We are the largest Home Care Registry in Nebraska, and our model is different than any other home care provider available to clients. All of our caregivers are licensed CNAs and work as independent contractors for their clients. Before any caregiver is allowed to work with a client, they are run through all background checks, criminal history reports, work authorization in the United States, CPR certified, must carry their own professional liability insurance, and are bonded through our company.”
Sometimes your loved one just needs a check-in and some companion care at the moment, but it could transition into daily needs, such as bathing, feeding, medication administration, and bathroom assistance. Family members caring for a loved one often still have to work full-time while also taking care of children or grandchildren, or family may even live out of town, and caring for their loved one may not be an option. CCA can provide for daily needs and report to the family directly after a visit. This way, you know your loved one with memory loss is being cared for and has help right there with them.

Moving into a new home can be scary and unpredictable. When it comes time to move into a memory care or assisted living community, it is important to find one that aligns with not only your health needs but also your needs in a home. The transition will be a lot easier if you or your loved one is excited for the new space and how you can make it feel like home.
o vation Heartwood Preserve is an urban, upscale senior living community promoting health, fitness, and adventure. Ovation’s resort-style living offers first-class concierge and valet services to reserve your table at one of the four restaurants, or call for the Ovation town car to keep you in touch with the world just outside your door. This new senior living community comes with dedicated memory care. Ovation Connections Memory Care delivers safe, secure, and compassionate care to enable residents to thrive, enjoy day-to-day living, stimulate their mental and physical focus, and encourage socialization.
“Seniors and families on the journey of memory loss face numerous challenges. The greatest is the lack of knowledge about the disease, how it progresses, and where to find support. This lack of knowledge creates great safety concerns for not only the senior, but also the caregiver,” said Nicole Goff , memory care director at Ovation Heartwood Preserve. As we look at the concerns, they range from isolation, poor nutrition, and a decrease in social skills. These risks grow exponentially when the senior does not have loved ones near. Most seniors with a memory loss diagnosis can mask how their symptoms are to others, especially those far away.”
Ovation has an all-female memory support neighborhood, both resident and staff, as an additional option for families. Their goal is to meet seniors where they are and support them in living their best life through engaging experiences and support that align with their interests.
“Things to look for in your loved one are changes in their personality and/or mood such as increased frustration and
anxiety. Increased depression is also an early sign. They may have trouble finding the correct words to use in writing and speaking. They may also have challenges eating on their own or using the bathroom independently,” Nicole explained. “Typically, our seniors are masters at hiding the early signs and we as loved ones can easily talk ourselves out of the possibility of a memory issue, so recognition of the early signs is hard from both perspectives.”
Studies show that people who suffer from memory loss have an increased decline in overall health during the winter and spring seasons. With the change in Omaha weather, depression and isolation are key concerns as it is tougher to travel to one another. “The holidays can be such a time of joy, but also one of exceptional confusion for our seniors if they become overstimulated,” Nicole explained. “Keenly, we worry about memory-impaired seniors not understanding the risk of exposure to cold temperatures and an inability to find their way home should they become disoriented.”
Ovation brings exceptional care and compassion to every memory care resident, from dining, individualized care, multi-sensory experiences, activities, and cognitive-enhancing programs. Nicole encourages you to visit their community today to see how they can care for your loved one with memory loss.
How to Know When to Go
Caring for someone that requires memory care can be a big task to take on for a family member or loved one that isn’t well-versed in memory health care. The toll that being a caregiver takes on one’s mental and physical health can become overwhelming, so transitioning some of the responsibilities to a professional is one of the best things you can do for your loved

one and maintain a healthy relationship with them. Prairie meadows Alzheimer’s Care Center ’s Senior Regional Marketing Director Don Woods shared some advice on caring for a loved one that is experiencing loss of memory or dementia.
“The biggest obstacle that families and caregivers face is knowing when the time is right to seek further assistance in care for one’s loved one with Memory Care. Oftentimes, families are quite frankly not sure where to begin their journey of searching for memory care,” said Don. “Some signs to look out for are residual forgetfulness and a change in cognitive behavioral expressions.”
Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Care Center has a wide array of amenities and services that will leave you feeling assured that your loved one is well-taken care of and enjoying their assisted living community. Some of these amenities include a team trained and specialized in memory care, an all-secure community and courtyard, and aging in place.
“We are all about our residents being active and staying involved,” Don said. “One example of this is our variety of different clubs. Book Club, Park Club, Singing Club, Walking Club – we have clubs for everything to meet the interests of our residents. We also take our residents out for fun outings, such as a day spent fishing on the boat or a trip to the casino to try our luck. Residency involvement is super important to us.”
There are a few things about Prairie Meadows that really make them stand out in the memory care world. To start, they are the only assisted living/memory care facility in the area that has a nurse on staff 24/7. This goes far beyond the minimal regulations of eight hours a day and eliminates any stress and anxiety a family may have when placing their loved one in memory care. Prairie Meadows also has silent sensors equipped in each resident’s room so that staff can be alerted if an individual falls or requires immediate help during the night. These sensors offer privacy to residents while also making them feel secure. Finally, Prairie Meadows offers specialized diets to accommodate the health needs of each individual resident.
“Our goal is to be a resource for everyone, whether you or a loved one is affected by dementia or not,” said Don. “We offer an Alzheimer’s support group to help those in need. We also want to further educate the community about Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and get them involved in supporting organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association.”
Specialized care like the kind provided at Prairie Meadows is crucial for anyone experiencing memory loss or a memory disease. Living comfortably while staying active and social can keep you or your loved one in good spirits during a difficult transition. Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Care Center is ready to welcome you or your loved one into their connected community.
Improve Your o rganization
As seniors age, it may become more difficult for them to use the storage in their kitchen, pantry, bathroom, or closet. Things become more difficult to take off the shelves or to put away, especially if it requires getting down on one’s knees. This is where ShelfGenie comes in.
“ShelfGenie provides custom pullout shelves that retrofit existing or new cabinets, typically in the kitchen, pantry, or bathrooms,” explained Jay Durmaskin, franchise co-owner. “We also design custom closets and storage solutions that can be done in any area of the home. We provide better access to your cabinets and closets. No more having to get down on your hands and knees to find what’s in your cabinets.”
more accessible, safe, and organized. An organized space that stays constant can be a huge help to someone experiencing memory loss while staying in their own home. Organizational systems help the mind store memories by organizing or filing new information close to similar already-known information in groups or classes.
The process is easy. To start, a ShelfGenie designer visits your home, in-person or virtually, to generate a 3D rendering of your custom solution in real time. You can keep your custom design plan and adjust it at any time. Then, you’ll choose the solutions you want from your custom design. A ShelfGenie-certified installer will schedule a field measurement, and then a U.S.-based manufacturing team begins hand-crafting your shelves out of the high-quality, durable materials and finishes you select. Finally, a ShelfGenie installer will return to your home to install your custom-made shelving.
If you or your loved one is looking for ways to improve the home to better suit memory care related health issues, keep ShelfGenie in mind. Their innovative approach to storage will improve the quality of life in simple, important ways.
As much as we want to be there for our older loved ones all the time, there is no shame in needing some extra help, or deciding they need more care than their current living situation can provide them. Taking these burdens off of your shoulders can ensure that you will be there for your loved one all the time, only now all you have to worry about is soaking up the time you get to spend with them. There are many options throughout the community, so it won’t be hard to find the perfect match for you and your loved ones.
