Kelly is always willing to meet us at our office or where we need him and always answers his phone which is a bonus nowadays. It is very easy to use and follow our trucks. The gps system has increased our efficiencies and help solve many problems when needed. The price for the GPS systems is always competitive and we have never found anybody to beat his prices and service. He personally drives out to the vehicle and changes out the GPS system whenever we buy a new truck. Happy New Year from Strictly Business!

PAIGE ZUTAVERN - Omaha/Lincoln - President (402) 730-0096 | Paige@StrictlyBusinessOmaha.com

What are your goals for 2022? Paige Zutavern, President This year, I really want to work on gratitude. To me, this means focusing more on what I have rather than what I want. I’m so blessed with a business I love, clients who have become friends, amazing employees, and a wonderful family. I’m also thankful for my freedom as an American. I never want to take this for granted. Another goal I have is to be intentional with my time because it is so valuable. This means less time watching shows on Netflix and more time with the people in my life who I care about. An ongoing ambition of mine is strengthening my walk as a Christian. I want to have the “Let go and let God” mentality more often. Hannah Hundley, Editor/Director of Operations I just celebrated my 27th birthday, which was full of happy reminders of all the love and support I have around me. Like the new year, birthdays are a great time to reflect and set goals for the future. As I get older, I realize that I’m still figuring out “what I want to be when I grow up”. I’m excited to keep turning the pages and discovering where my path will lead me. This year, I want to take more risks—I want to do things that challenge me and make me uncomfortable. Right now, I just take things as they come. This isn’t necessarily a bad trait, but I know valuable growth and perspective come from taking leaps of faith in life. Devyn Sanderson, Writer Last year was suc h an exciting year for me! I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and started working at Strictly Business in July. Over the last five months, I have already grown so much in my writing and have really come to better know the Lincoln community and all that it has to offer. In 2022, I hope to continue to expand on my writing and communication skills (maybe 2022 will be the year I master the art of answering the office phone), and meet more friendly faces in the business community. I’m super excited to see what the New Year has in store for me, personally and professionally.

Brent Baum, Art Director This year, I will continue my lifelong learning of just about anything I see. My goal is to develop a more modern design language. I also want to hike at least one 14er in Colorado and hopefully see Yosemite. I’d like to get back up to my average of cycling 5,000 miles a year, but time management will have to be better used. Meg Crawford, Social Media Guru My word for 2022 is “Present”. I want to be more present in everyday things—more present in my work and in conversations. I want to detox from social media more and not mindlessly scroll before bedtime. I think it’s so important to spend more time with the ones I love than seeing what so-and-so posted on Instagram. My friends and family are such gifts in my life that it’s time I unplug when we spend time together. Katie Koso, Writing Intern In 2022, I’m most looking forward to graduating from UNL in May and receiving my bachelor’s of journalism in advertising and public relations! One of my main goals this year will be to start my career and use all the skills I’ve learned in school over the years. I look forward to spending more time with friends and family and I’m also hoping to go on some trips this summer! I’m really excited to see what’s in store this year. Grace Kane, Writing Intern For 2022, I am looking forward to finishing up my last semester of school at UNL and enjoy my time with my friends before we all move out into the world. One of my personal goals this year is to focus on my physical health by trying to eat more clean foods and running more. I’m signed up for a few races this summer already!

ABOUT THE COVER Add Strictly Business to Your 2022 Marketing Plan! The Strictly Business team is excited for another year of serving our clients, readers, and friends! Most of all, we’re looking forward to all the new businesses and organizations we’ll have the opportunity to partner with in 2022. If your goals include increasing profitability, credibility, likeability, and your online presence, it’s time to call us! What makes Strictly Business so strong as a marketing tool is our ability to tell your story in a variety of unique, engaging, and informative ways. This is done through our news sections, River City Sixes, Client Spotlights, and feature stories. Plus, our reach is undeniable—in print, online, and on social media. You’ll also be impressed with our team. We are small but mighty, and we’re 100% dedicated to giving our advertisers the best experience possible. Pair all this with our longevity in the marketplace and reputation of being a champion of local business, we hope you consider Strictly Business for your 2022 marketing plan.

4 Reasons to Partner with Strictly Business 1. Storytelling—Strictly Strictly Business does an amazing job of telling stories and presenting people as the local experts in their fields. We have four news sections dedicated to covering announcements in Omaha: Business News, Personnel News, Nonprofit News, and Health News. We also have the River City Sixes each month. These are fun, get-to-know-you columns that help put a face and personal touch to the business name. In addition, full-page Client Spotlights give a more in-depth look into a business’s history and mission. Finally, our editorial calendar is packed with stories that cover a wide range of industries. Our major focuses are on senior health/living, construction, and banking and finance, but we also do stories on party planning, pet care, real estate, technology, and much more. In the stories, we interview representatives from local businesses to get their expert advice on the topics.

3. Our Team—Strictly Strictly Business is made up of a small-but-mighty team of talented and dedicated individuals. Paige and Shayne Zutavern, who started the company in 1993, are still actively involved in the magazine’s production today. The staff includes Hannah Hundley, who is the editor and director of operations; Devyn Sanderson, the publications’ main writer; Brent Baum, who is the sole art director; and Megan Crawford, our part-time social media guru. The team is rounded out with two eager writing interns, Grace Kane and Katie Koso, both of whom are students at UNL. To work at Strictly Business means supporting our advertisers and local businesses above all else. We always go the extra mile to make sure our clients feel that they are receiving the most value out of their campaign. We’re proud to say that many of our clients have been our close friends.

2. Our Reach & Readership—Strictly Business is directly mailed to over 15,000 businesses in Omaha every month. When you factor in our pass-along readership, we estimate that one copy of the magazine can reach at least five people. Who are these people? They are the decision makers at their businesses and the city’s biggest consumers. We also hand-distribute hundreds of copies to high-traffic locations in the city each month. Plus, everything is published online. Our website (strictlybusinessomaha.com), which we recently upgraded, had 191,681 page views from January 1, 2021 to December 1, 2021. Also, in the past three months, Strictly Business articles published on our website have had over 1.69 million impressions on Google. Finally, you’ll find that we are very active on social media, and we offer our clients a very affordable social media add-on. With this, we share or create content for our advertisers on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

4. Our Reputation—For over 15 years, Strictly Business has built a reputation for providing Omaha with reliable and relevant news. We’ve had many advertisers stick with us for 5-10+ years. These longterm relationships give us much pride. We are also known for being active in the community. You won’t just see the magazine around, you’ll see our faces at events and at the businesses we work with!

BUSINESS NEWS Center Sphere’s Member HUB Helps Put Relationship Building First When looking at a professional networking organization, one may expect it to be focused on business referrals and closed dollar amounts. While those items are most definitely important, Center Sphere does not consider them the key to their success. What is? The answer is easy – relationships. As it has for over a decade, Center Sphere continues to put relationship building at the forefront of everything they do, from corporate-wide initiatives to monthly events and down to each individual connection. “Our network is just a little different than the others,” said Brett Boyer, founder and CEO. “We don’t focus on the numbers. Our belief is that when we put relationships first, everything else falls into place. Not only that, but those relationships probably bring about better business and longer lasting business.” To encourage these connections, Center Sphere provides all members with access to each other through their Member HUB, an interactive members-only site that allows members to schedule one-to-one meetings with each other, trade business, and find ways to plug in. Center Sphere is an established network of business professionals whose mission is to share referrals, ideas, and resources through genuine relationships. The Omaha Network is currently made up of nearly 40 chapters and has access to members nationwide. For more information about Center Sphere or to inquire about attending a complimentary meeting or event, visit www.CenterSphere.com or connect with Omaha Market President Martina Niemeyer at Martina@CenterSphere.com / (402) 536-0289.

Loophire Announces $300K Seed Round to Disrupt the Recruitment Industry Silicon Prairie Startup, Loophire has secured $300,000 of seed funding in its first round. Nebraska Angels introduced the company to the first investor in this round, U.S. Property led by Monte Froehlich. The investment will serve to enhance the backend of their software and to expand the Loophire team in key areas to allow the company to scale both users and services. Since launching in February 2021 with pre-seed support from Omaha entrepreneur James Manske, Loophire has quickly shown traction by securing national and local company contracts, attracting an impressive candidate pool, and facilitating more than 50 successful hires while steadily growing monthly revenues. As the economy awakens from 2020, job vacancies have skyrocketed to higher than pre-pandemic levels. Worker confidence, however, has not rebounded as well. Loophire addresses that critical gap in the hiring process—applicant experience. With more than two-thirds of job applicants reporting they have been turned off by a bad interview experience, companies cannot afford to be disengaged or unresponsive in a competitive jobs market. Loophire increases the probability of hire by 65% from “Introduction” to “Accepted Offer” through their streamlined approach. Because they deliver results at a fraction of the traditional cost, even smaller businesses and the qualified candidates they hire can access a superior hiring experience. For employers, Loophire goes beyond resumes to provide candidate assessments for skills, culture, and long-term fit, preliminary screening interviews, and customized services at performance-based pricing. For job applicants, Loophire provides career coaching, timeline and career growth transparency, and regular communication throughout the hiring process. The result is a high-touch, curated experience for both companies and candidates. To learn more, visit loophire.com. JANUARY 2022 Strictly Business 9

Meet Lisa Henning, executive director of the Nebraska Safety Council. Tell us a little about your business. - The Nebraska Safety Council has been serving the public and businesses since 1961. In our 60th year, we are proud to say that we have helped improve the lives of thousands of people through worksite safety training, worksite wellness services, and consultation and traffic safety education. How did you get started in the business? - Our services started through a request by Governor Morrison to reduce the incidence of automobile fatalities on our roads and highways. We started offering traffic education classes appointed by the courts and expanded to driver’s education. In 1971, we expanded our services to worksite safety due to the newly formed Occupational Safety and Health Association standards established by the federal government. In 2013, we acquired WorkWell, a longstanding leader in worksite wellness, and thus our three main arms of service – worksite safety, worksite wellness, and traffic safety education – were complete. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Without a doubt the pandemic. Keeping a nonprofit alive while also trying to maintain as many positions at our organization as possible was a difficult time. It is still spilling over into this year with staffing shortages, stress, and emotional well-being challenges among staff. What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Helping shape and change a culture across Nebraska through the development of the Governor’s Wellness Award. Prior to the award, worksite wellness was only established in Lincoln and Omaha. Now, more than 400 businesses across the state have evidence-based wellness programs. Businesses that have established programs have a better chance of recruiting and retaining young talent. Tell us a little about your family. - My husband Kent and I have been married for 37 years. He is the property manager at Speedway Properties. We have two wonderful children, Makaela and Brendon. Makaela is married and is a special education coordinator. She and her husband (also in special education) have two beautiful children, Kiptyn and Kaelyn. Brendon is a web developer at Union Bank & Trust. We are very close, and the entire family gets together every Sunday evening for dinner. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Meeting my husband. From him, many good things have happened in my life. Kent showed me patience, kindness, faith, and unconditional love. He is the greatest blessing in my life. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Kent and I like to bike ride. A perfect day is riding, probably eating out halfway through the ride, and then having the kids over that night for dinner. What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I played soccer on the boy’s high school team as my high school did not have a girl’s program. I enjoyed it a lot but being 5’ 3” wasn’t ideal for going up for a head ball! Who inspires you? - My son-in-law is a wonderful person. He is so patient, which I am not, so he role models that for me. My husband when it comes to forgiveness. My daughter as she is such a hard worker. My son as he has the best personality. What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Nebraska Safety Council because it saves lives and helps make people’s lives safer, healthier, and better quality. Child Advocacy Center because no child should suffer abuse of any kind! If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 483-2511 ext. 109; lhenning@nesafetycouncil.org; www. nesafetycouncil.org. #PrintProudDigitalSmart

How did you get started in the business? - The start of my career in healthcare was helping to take care of my grandmother when she was diagnosed with cancer. I assisted with the hands-on care and finding the resources available based on her socioeconomic background. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Starting my assisted living administrator career during a pandemic. If I can make it through this time, I make it through anything.

How did you get started in the business? - After working nearly 20 years in human resources, my network and interest in nonprofit leadership led me to the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The shuffle and disconnect caused by the pandemic was hard and needing to be there for so many staff family through RIFS and illnesses altogether as an HR leader was tough, but I always look for silver linings. Good news is that I haven’t allowed my fear to stop me from pursuing this. I’m getting close to a partnership that will allow me to achieve these goals while working beside a colleague. Tell us a little about your family. - I was born and raised in Lincoln. My dad Kirk is the assistant athletic director of HuskerVision. He has been running the Tunnel Walk and big screens for Nebraska Athletics for over 20 years. My mom Linda is the business program co-director at Southeast Community College. She is also on the SCC Board of Governors. My younger brother is a senior at UNL studying electrical engineering. My fiancé Creighton and I have two Huskies named Archer and Harley. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - When I graduated college, I moved to Clearwater, FL, knowing one person in the entire state. That year taught me to push past any comfort zones I may have. Between changing a flat tire by myself on the side of the causeway and maneuvering through my first year of being an adult in a new state, I learned more about myself and what I was capable of in that one year than the prior 21 years combined. What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - My dad would always use the quote “The great ones adjust,” whether it was odds against myself, or just natural life changes. I always think, “How can I adapt to the situation and make the best of it?” Who inspires you? - My parents and my late Grandma Emily. My parents have shown me what a good work ethic can do for you in life. I have always admired how much time and effort they put into what they both do. My Grandma Emily was a social butterfly, and she inspires me every day to be more caring to others, as well as to take the time to stop and really get to know someone. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spending time outside to recharge. I love going to the lake and going boating/tubing. If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - A lawyer. I have debated going back to school to get my law degree for a few years now. What is your favorite movie? - Related to my previous answer— Legally Blonde, but also anything Marvel. If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Surprising—boring is overrated. If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - I would say Elon Musk. He has such a brilliant yet interesting mind. There are so many topics I would love to pick his brain on. NONPROFIT NEWS Methodist Jennie Edmundson’s Volunteer Program Accepting New Volunteers

World Premiere of Carmela Full of Wishes to Debut on The Rose Theater Stage

Methodist Jennie Edmundson (MJE) is welcoming new volunteers into their Volunteer Program to join their incredibly compassionate team who are the heart and soul of their hospital. MJE volunteers help improve a patient’s stay at the hospital, whether helping doctors and nurses, delivering newspapers and flowers, or working in the gift shop or information desk. Volunteer opportunities also include non-patient/ visitor contact but ultimately everyone works together to promote the wellbeing and safety of MJE’s patients. “It’s been great to have volunteers in positions that truly boost the patient and visitor experience and provide benefits to hospital staff,” said Mike Skipton, Hospital Auxiliary board president. “My wife and I are longtime volunteers at Jennie. One area I enjoy volunteering is in the West Lobby entrance, both morning and afternoon shifts. It can often be like Grand Central Station. Patients and visitors stop there first when entering the hospital. West Lobby tasks include assisting anyone who needs a wheelchair, escorting patients and visitors to designated areas—basically extending a helpful hand and a courteous smile to those walking in the hospital door.” The Jennie Edmundson Hospital Foundation is indebted to the longtime support they have received from large and small communities across southwest Iowa and the Omaha metro area. If you are interested in volunteering and would like to learn more about the program or MJE, go to jehfoundation.org or call (712) 396-6040.

NONPROFIT NEWS Project Harmony Offers Tips to Keep Kids Safe Online in Honor of National Technology Day

Christian Record Services Adds NET Bible in Braille, Large Print, and Audio

In honor of National Technology Day on Thursday, January 6, Project Harmony wants to bring attention to the technology in our children’s lives.

Christian Record Ser vices is excited to offer the New English Translation (NET) Reader’s Edition bible to members, in braille, large print, and audio. The NET Bible is a completely new translation, completed by more than 25 scholars working directly from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. With more than 10,000 scholar notes available online, this translation is the most accessible ever due to the unparalleled detailing in the notes and up-to-date language. Learn more at Bible.org.

Did your son or daughter receive a new technology device this holiday season? For the first time, they now have access to texting, downloading music, taking and receiving photos, instant messaging, social media apps, watching videos, and more. In addition to this, they have access to being bullied or engaging in bullying behavior, meeting strangers, and talking to people who are not necessarily who they say they are. That’s a lot of access at the tips of our children’s fingers – not to mention that is a lot to manage as a parent. Project Harmony offers some general tips and guidance to help you navigate this new part of your child’s life. 1. Make sure your child’s school or other youth-serving organizations have and enforce communication policies that protect children. Teachers and other youth workers should not be communicating privately with children. Instead, they should use group texts, messages, or other communications that include parents. 2. Tell your children to never give out identifying information such as their name, address, neighborhood, phone number, school information, or extracurricular activities. 3. Tell your children to let you know immediately if someone asks for pictures or personal information. 4. Be aware of what apps your kids are using and know their capabilities. Is there a chat function? Are they chatting or playing with strangers? 5. Set reasonable time limits on computers and smartphones. Have rules around where devices are kept and can be used. 6. Use a parent or caregiver’s name and email when signing up for games or apps. This ensures you are the primary contact rather than your child. 7. Talk to your children about inappropriate questions and language. Use age-appropriate examples. 8. Smartphones and tablets have a location services feature that allows devices to broadcast their location to the user’s apps and contacts. Ensure this feature is turned off. 9. For older kids, talk to them about sexting and cyberbullying. Explain the long-term consequences of sending sexual messages or pictures. Discuss the dangers and permanence of communication sent digitally, even if it claims to be private or self-destructing. 10. Let your children know you respect their privacy, but will periodically monitor use, including emails, photos, messaging, and apps. Like most conversations about safety, this is an ongoing one. Check-in often and remind your children that they can talk to you about anything and that they can come to you if anyone makes them uncomfortable. Project Harmony is a nonprofit, community-based organization that has served more than 48,000 children during the past 25 years by providing a child friendly environment in which specially-trained professionals work together to assess, investigate, and resolve child abuse cases. Project Harmony exists to protect and support children, collaborate with professionals, and engage the community to end child abuse and neglect. HEALTH NEWS Researcher Finds “Death Pathway” in Bacteria, to Target Against Infectious Diseases A new study by researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) has uncovered a “death pathway” among bacteria, a mechanism that authors suggest might be exploited as a therapeutic target against infectious diseases. Vinai Thomas, PhD, an associate professor in the UNMC Department of Pathology and Microbiology, is the senior author of the study, published in the journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) in November. He suggested that the death mechanism, sparked by a protease called ClpP, may be an attempt to ensure the survival of other sibling bacteria. Bacteria, he noted, have traditionally been considered “immortal,” since they can continuously keep dividing if food is provided and toxic waste byproducts are removed. At least, that’s been the thought so far, but the PNAS study suggests this is not always the case. Dr. Thomas said that understanding what the ClpP protease targets may better enable clinicians to make therapeutic use of the “death pathway.” To learn more, visit www.unmc.edu.

“My advice for businesses – big or small – is to prioritize your remote culture strategy as well as your digital strategy, even if you don’t have one,” said Michael. “You are still the leader of your team even though they might not be in your building. Leading a team that is remote requires intentional development. The very fabric of your culture is at stake and the foundations that have been developed over the years are now insecure at best. That’s a hard reality to face.”

Cornhusker Bank took the time to understand my business strategy. I feel

Just as many of us make our own personal goals at the start of a New Year, businesses often do the same. This is a great time to reflect on your business’s previous year and map out your vision for 2022. What goals do you want to reach? Where are you currently on the path to these goals? What will you do to get there? These are important questions to ask yourself to help you create a clear picture for the New Year. We wanted to learn more about business planning for 2022, so we reached out to several professionals in the Omaha community that can help us all reach our business goals and beyond. Develop a Clear Vision Do you have a vision for 2022, but you don’t know where to start? Do you feel like your team supports you, but you don’t see the movement that you desire? Get in touc h with Teams.Coach for leadership coaching, consulting, strategic planning, and executive coaching tailored specifically to help all types of leaders and organizations take necessary steps to go further, faster. Business Leadership Coach Michael King can help you and your team clarify and execute at high levels. Michael Michael King is a seasoned business strategist and Teams.Coach leadership coach with close to 20 years of hands-on experience, and has trained some of the country’s leading firms and organizations ranging from churches and nonprofits to the music and entertainment industry. “I can work with senior leaders in your company all the way through full team engagement to discover gaps in performance, culture, blind spots, establishing new goals and the plans to achieve them, evaluating overall engagement, and help leaders (and their teams) to get unstuck,” said Michael. “My favorite part as a coach is when I see my clients win – when I see them start to dream bigger and better things for their life and for their teams.” The success of your company in 2022 relies greatly on a solid team effort that’s facilitated by a leader who’s clear on the company’s vision, and the capacity to lead their team toward the realization of that vision. In addition to helping your company develop a clearer vision, Michael can also guide you through the step-by-step process of developing strategic plans and practices that will help you reach your goals for your company and improve profitability.

Remote work comes with massive emotional and psychological effects, so there are specific things that he coaches his leaders on to make sure that this paradigm shift is a powerful one. Michael wants readers to know that if there is just one thing you should talk with him about, it’s this! “When it comes to digital strategy, remember this,” he began. “Before 2019, you were a brick-and-mortar business with a digital presence. Now, you are digital business with a brick-and-mortar presence. Small shifts in your perspective can have significant and powerful results. The things we develop for the brick-and-mortar experience don’t always translate to the digital experience. Start with digital in mind. Your odds of this translating into your brickand-mortar presence are significantly higher.” To execute these strategies, Michael uses his signature T.E.A.M.S. Methodology: • Targets – clear and actionable goals and KPI’s • Engagement – universal participation and aligned healthy culture • Action – repeatable and sustainable systems and processes • Momentum – contagious energy from unquestionable action • Synergy – chemistry and collaboration amongst the team Reach out to Michael today to take advantage of all the benefits that Teams.Coach can bring to your company in 2022! Get Ready to Grow If you put a hold on trying to expand your company in the wake of the pandemic and all the trouble it placed on businesses, Cruise & Associates wants you to know that now is the time to begin to transition into a state of growth.

“Many of your competitors may not be trying to expand because they are still operating in conservative mode,” President Robert Cruise explained. “One of the best ways to grow is through marketing, which is often overlooked. Business owners make the mistake of treating marketing as an expense instead of an investment. When their business is doing well, owners don’t feel marketing is necessary and wait until something happens before trying it. To get your business to grow and expand, Robert Cruise you need to invest in marketing and have Cruise & Associates a plan. Business owners need to look at marketing as a marathon and not a sprint. It builds on top of each other, and what you do in one year will affect the sales and growth the following year.” Robert says the best way to make sure nothing is getting overlooked is to create written goals for 2022. By taking the time to write things out, you are providing for yourself and your employees focus and clarity for the business. If you don’t know where you are going, you aren’t going to know how to get there. Some key areas to look at when coming up with goals include sales and growth, re-evaluating inventory, and adding new products or services. It’s also crucial to keep in mind the laws of the country that are ever-changing. Business owners need to monitor the pending tax changes that could drastically affect their business. If these changes pass, it is important to meet with your accountant to make sure you understand the new laws and ensure that they won’t negatively impact your business. “As a full-time accounting firm, Cruise & Associates can help provide direction by meeting to do tax and business planning, lease negotiations, and cash flow projections.” Connect with your Bank Be sure to schedule some time to meet with your business partners at the start of the year to discuss goals and plans – this includes your bank, CPA, attorney, and financial advisor. They can be a vital resource in planning for the year ahead and keeping you updated on any changes in law and the way you can run your business. Allen Chaffee, Omaha market president of Cornhusker Bank, offered some advice for your 2022 business planning. Allen Chaffee “Talk to your banker about use of capital Cornhusker Bank for the coming year,” Allen recommended. “Figure out what is the right amount of cash, debt, and equity needed in the business to make it successful. Recently, debt has been cheap, but economic factors can cause rates to increase and a business needs to understand how that affects them. When setting goals, businesses should take into consideration increases in interest rates, input costs, and labor expenses. We can help you map out your plan for 2022 with these things in mind.” Allen reminded us that in the banking world, technology and automation are constantly improving and changing. Clients should take full advantage of these improvements, but it is still very healthy to have a strong relationship with your bank and banker. “Your banking team can have a big impact on your new or existing business,” said Allen. “Banks can assist businesses with loans to help their business grow, but we can also be a connection tool for community partnership, real estate opportunities, labor needs, and centers of influence.” Whether you’re starting out or expanding your operations, the Cornhusker Bank team is here to help your business move forward. Their experts live and work in the community and understand the #PrintProudDigitalSmart

local environment. When you work with their knowledgeable staff, they build a trusted relationship with you and your team, understand your business, and deliver smart, personal advice that helps you navigate the future, no matter what it may bring. “Cornhusker Bank has so much to offer in terms of business planning, so please reach out to us today to get a head start on your goals for 2022.” Accounts Receivable Aaron Newell, Founder of AR Solutions, also offered some advice for 2022 business planners. Closely analyze the previous year, as it can provide valuable lessons that you can apply to your New Year business strategies. “Take an honest look at your strengths and weaknesses. That will help you determine what you can do to be more efficient and where you should be spending your time and effort versus what would be best to put in the capable hands of a professional,” Aaron Newell Aaron offered. AR Solutions By freeing up your time to engage in activities that are generating revenue for your business, there will be more of it. In addition, by investing in the services of the professionals who are focused on doing what they do best, you’ll benefit from better results. “With accounts receivable and collections, in particular, it takes time, effort, and consistency to get the best results,” said Aaron. “Then there are the complexities involved with the legal aspects of collections to take into consideration. By partnering with AR Solutions, you’ll be assured that you’re protected legally, that your reputation is being upheld by our representatives, and that we’re working hard to collect on your past-due accounts. The collection industry has changed immensely in the last 10 years and AR Solutions understands, as you do, that it’s time for a new approach—one with real answers and real results.” Insurance and Benefits The New Year may bring new rates for health insurance, business liability insurance, automobile insurance, umbrella policies, and other types of insurance. Insurance coverage for your business is essential, so now may be the time to shop around for a new quote to be sure you are paying the best price for the best plan for your business and employees. A great agency that can help you with your insurance needs is Universal Group, LTD. They are an independent insurance agency, brokerage, and consulting firm that serves clients in all 50 states. “If you run a business, then you should discuss your insurance needs in detail with a knowledgeable insurance agent or broker,” said President Dan Headlee. “Be totally open about your business to ensure that you will be purchasing adequate coverage. Make sure you know what’s covered and what isn’t —you don’t want to run into any unpleasant surprises later in the year — and review your coverage periodically as your business evolves. Once you know exactly what kind of policy or policies you need, you can compare prices from Dan Headlee different insurance companies and look for Universal Group, LTD the best value.” When looking at insurance plans, Dan suggests asking yourself a few insurance questions to give you an idea of what plan you should be purchasing. To start, is your company sufficiently covered in terms of liability, and does it have adequate fire and health insurance? Are there any new insurance carriers that might be able to provide a competitive quote? Has your business taken on any new assets or #PrintProudDigitalSmart

business interests that haven’t been accounted for and protected by existing policies? The team at Universal Group will help you find the best insurance plan for your business. Universal Group can also assist you with employee benefits. “We can help you design an employee benefits program that makes sense for your company and your employees,” said Dan. “When you have a great benefits package, you can better attract, retain, and protect your team.” The advisors at Universal Group make it their business to understand your world inside and out. They are there to help you through all the changes in your business. Whether you are adding a partner to your business or revamping your employee benefits plan, they’re focused on the needs of your business and employees. “We are more than happy to discuss your insurance and employee benefits options in person, but if you’re in a crunch, visit our website and fill out the online request form for a quote,” said Dan. “It just takes a minute! One of our agents will be in touch with you shortly after to discuss your options.” Have you mapped out your 2022 business plan yet? Knowing where your business is at and what your annual goals are is important in ensuring the success of your business. We recommend reaching out to these local businesses and professionals to prepare your business for another year of success!

New year means new opportunities to give back and get involved! At Strictly Business, we believe it is so important to support our local nonprofits. Not only do nonprofits help enrich Nebraskan life, but they also create jobs and give workers, volunteers, and donors alike a connection to something greater than themselves. Nebraska’s nonprofit sector provides about 10% of private sector jobs in our state. When we pitch in to help nonprofits, we’re helping our communities and neighbors and keeping a culture of humanity, art, and philanthropy alive. Though we are still dealing with setbacks from COVID, the community continues to be generous. This was evident through 2021’s Giving Tuesday. On November 30, individuals across the area came together and donated more than five million dollars to charities and organizations around the metro. According to Share Omaha, $5.49 million was collected for 650 organizations. Last year’s effort during the pandemic collected $3.16 million. In 2019, the total was $1.67 million. Some gave more than money as well—more than 500 volunteer hours served throughout that day. We need to continue doing our part to help the community by investing in our nonprofits in any way we can. That doesn’t always mean monetary donations. There are many ways to give back and get involved, such as participating in or hosting a donation drive at your business, volunteering your skills and talents, and spreading awareness by sharing needs from nonprofits on your social media channels. This Supporting Nonprofits feature is a place to recognize some of these amazing organizations and the work they’re doing locally. Readers should keep these nonprofits in mind when they’re choosing to give back to Omaha this year. Whether you choose to donate your own time or to give back through your business, supporting any of these nonprofits will have positive ripple effects in the lives of fellow Nebraskans.

Sunflower Haven is a new nonprofit organization aspiring to build a hospice ranch to serve patients and families in the Omaha community. The idea comes from founder, Alicia Torres, after seeking to serve a population that often falls through the cracks. Many times, hospice patients either reside in their own homes with family caregivers or reside in some form of nursing facility. The team at Sunflower Haven strives to serve patients in the middle. Our future home will welcome Omaha hospice patients with 8 bedrooms, 24-hour care, family suites to welcome loved ones to stay on property, and a rustic farm-style concept. Our ranch will also host a barn complete with farm animals. We understand the importance of continuing to be served by the hospice company of choice. This is why our staff are available 24-7, but the area hospices are welcome in our home at anytime to ensure all needs are met. Continuity of care is crucial during such a vulnerable time and we are in the process of developing great relationships with the current hospice organizations in the community. Our home can be a place for short-term stays, as well as a comfortable home to be surrounded by family at end of life. We cannot wait to serve the Omaha community. Please reach out to Alicia Torres at admin@sunflower-haven.com or check out our website at sunflower-haven.com for any questions or interest in becoming part of our incredible team. 40 Strictly Business JANUARY 2022

Youth Emergency Services (YES, www.yesomaha. org) is the only nonprofit in Omaha with the sole mission to help youth experiencing homelessness and near-homelessness in the community. Last year, YES provided support and services to more than 1,000 youth in the Omaha metro. YES also provided 4,338 meals to youth through their Street Outreach Center and Mobile Pantry during the pandemic. Many of these youth have been physically, emotionally, or sexually abused, making it unsafe for them to return home. Without YES, these vulnerable young people cannot succeed independently. YES offers a full continuum of care to ensure all youth receive the support they need, no matter their situation. This includes the Street Outreach Center, Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Program, Maternity Group Home and Rapid Rehousing. Through these programs, YES offers case management, job readiness classes, group activities, support for the LGBTQ+ community and specialized services for trafficked survivors. To ensure youth are successful once they leave their care, YES requires the youth to set short- and long-term goals; be enrolled in school; have a job, or both; and do community service. For more information about YES’ programs, please visit www.yesomaha. org or call (402) 345-5187. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Wear Yellow Nebraska provides ser vice, support, and community for Nebraska’s cancer survivors. Their purpose, from the very beginning, is to bring together people passionate about cycling, celebrating life, and being an advocate in the fight against cancer. Since the organization’s beginning days, Wear Yellow Nebraska has continued to grow and cultivate their mission and vision. In 2012, they launched a free transportation program, which has raised more than $350,000 dollars to provide more than 15,600 cab rides to cancer patients in need. The Wear Yellow Cab Ride program, Powered by Lyft, is the primary initiative of the organization and is funded by their signature event, the Wear Yellow Ride, Fun Run & Walk. Transportation to and from treatment is essential because patients are often unable to drive themselves, which also leaves them vulnerable to additional medical challenges. Even when patients have family and friends who can help, they are not always available and sometimes they just don’t want to ask for one more thing. Wear Yellow Nebraska touches lives in Lincoln, Omaha, and Fremont— help them keep growing! Learn more online at WearYellowNebraska.org. 42 Strictly Business JANUARY 2022

At Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in Omaha, we know that oftentimes, it’s the little things that provide the most comfort. A hot cup of coffee in the morning. The smell of clean laundry. The feeling of a fresh haircut. A sweet taste of hand-crafted ice cream. Just like you, our families appreciate those little things in our House, as well as crawling into a warm bed after a long day in a hospital room. The taste of a home-cooked meal, even while far from home. A calming voice saying, “It’ll be okay.” When families travel to Omaha for their child’s medical care, they need those little things to get through it. They find them at Ronald McDonald House Charities in Omaha: Where the little things make the biggest difference. As a support arm of Omaha-area hospitals, RMHC provides 40 family guest rooms and more than 14,600 lodging nights annually inclusive of warm beds, hot showers, meals, laundry facilities, family-friendly kitchens, playrooms, and a playground—all the basic essentials of home. Additionally, RMHC provides wrap-around services delivered by community partners such as a hair salon, financial support, educational programming, mindfulness and yoga, birthday celebrations, a House therapy dog, as well as healing through the arts. These activities are designed to promote hope and healing through ongoing engagement and participation. The cost to provide our services is approximately $120 per night, per family. Families are asked to donate $20 per night, but no family is ever turned away due to an inability to contribute. To learn more, visit rmhcomaha.org. JANUARY 2022 Strictly Business
