5 steps for teaching songs 1 – Chord Practice / Strum Pattern : Have each kid make the songs chords 10 times, slapping their kneesin between. Then have them put the chords into pairs and practice switching back and forth between them (10X each). Then teach them the strum pattern on one chord. (This part is very easy at first, then will require more work later, while chord practice will require less). 2 – Play the song for the kids : Play it like you mean it. 3 – The first run : (1\2 speed)Take them through the song, starting with the first chord, then yell freezewhen they get to the first chord change. Ask the kids – What chord comesnext! Then give them four seconds to make that chord. Continue the song, repeating this pattern until the end. You may have to do the first run several times over the a few weeks. 4 – The On their own run (With help) : Take them through the song, Calling out the chord changes1 or 2 beats before they come. Explain to them that they need to call out the chord changesin their heads, a few beats in advance when they practice at home. 5 – On their own (at or near Full speed) : Take them through the song without any verbal help. Passthem on an individual basis at your discretion. Combine this step with the Rock Star game for a little extra fun.
