From the Vicar Beloved in Christ,
Once, Mother Teresa said to the world “If we truly want peace in the world, let us begin by loving one another in our own families. If we want to spread joy, we need for every family to have joy.” The family based on marriage between a man and a woman constitutes “the primary place of ‘humanization’ for the person and society”, and a “cradle of life and love”. The family is therefore rightly defined as the first natural society, “a divine institution that stands at the foundation of life of the human person as the prototype of every social order”. In a healthy family life, we experience some of the fundamental elements of peace,: justice and love, between brothers and sisters; the role of authority expressed by parents; loving concern for the members who are weaker due to sickness or old age, mutual help in the difficult times of life, readiness to accept others and, if necessary, to forgive them. For this reason, the family is the first and indispensable teacher of peace. The language of the family is a language of peace; we must always draw from it, lest we lose the “vocabulary” of peace. An essential condition for peace within individual families is that they should be built upon the solid foundation of shared spiritual and ethical values. Do we have that foundation now for our posterity? Mar Thoma Sabha is observing 23rd Oct 2011 as The Family Dedication Sunday. The theme of this day is “Reformation of the family”. We the St.Thomas family is observing 16th to 23rd Oct 2011 as Family Reformation Week along with Kudumba Naveekarana Dhyanam. Do take this event to say Thanks to Lord Almighty for our family and the rededication of our family life. Lord, help me to love my spouse to the extent that I will be willing to subject myself. Lord helps me to be a just parent. Lord let me become a channel of your peace and love. Amen Yours in Christ Panachamoottil Achen
Youth Sunday Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam (MTYS) is observing 16th Oct 2011 as the Youth Sunday. It was formed with the view that youth of the Church should accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, and bear witness to His powers. A resolution of the Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam in 1933 led to the formation of this group. The first president of the Sakhyam was Rev. V.P Mammen and the Vice- Presidents were Rev. K E. Oommen and Rev. C. M John (later Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan) and the first Secretary was Mr. V E Thomas (later Rev. V E Thomas, Singapore). Branches of the Sakhyam were set up in the Parishes with a four-fold programme of worship, study, witness and service. Dr. M.M Thomas (former Nagaland Governor, Theologian & First non-clergy Chairperson of W.C.C) was appointed as Organizing Secretary in 1945 and he was the full time worker of the Sakhyam. Under his dynamic leadership, the Sakhyam struck deep roots and spread its branches far and wide. At present Rt .Rev Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa is the President and Rev Charley Jones is the General Secretary. Rev Abraham Kuruvilla and Rev Abin Srampickal Abraham are the Assistant Secretaries.

Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelist’s Association 4th Oct 2011 is observed as Voluntary Evangelist’s Association Day. The spiritual renewal in the Church, which was the offspring of reformation, has created a yearning in believers to present the Gospel to others. It was realized that this could not be fully achieved by the services of a few full time evangelists. On the other hand every member of the Church should be a missionary filled with such joy and assurance of salvation as to be Christ’s witness to those who come into contact with him, irrespective of one’s profession in secular life. Believers interested in evangelistic and intercessory activities used to assemble periodically for prayer and fellowship. It was in the annual meeting of such a gathering in 1924, the present Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists’ Association got formed. Bishop Abraham Mar Thoma was an ardent supporter of this movement and Titus II Mar Thoma Metropolitan sent a circular to all parishes encouraging the formation of branches of the Association which is known as Edavaka Mission. Rev. C. P. Philipose Kassisa was the first president, Sadhu Kochu Kunju Upadesi the secretary and Kolakottu John Upadesi the traveling secretary. Those who volunteer to be members of the Association meet together in each parish at least once in a week for fellowship, intercessory prayer, Bible study and sharing experiences. They visit the sick and the needy and give spiritual fellowship and material help. They work for reconciliation where people are estranged from one another. MTVEA is running the Abraham Mar Thoma Memorial Bible Institute at Kompady, Thiruvalla that gives training for laypersons in personal evangelism. The Association manages three mission fields at Achencovil near Punalur, Mukkada near Ranny and Kalkulam near Chungathara. Its official organ is the Tri-Monthly ‘Sandesam’ containing sermon notes, Bible studies, articles and the news about the association.

SargoLsavam - 2011 With The Grace of Almighty, our Sargothsav 2011 turned out to be an unforgettable event replete with peace, harmony, hue & amity. Attendees from our church , sister parishes as well as well - wishers from all quarters made this a nostalgic event that has etched well in our minds too. Every program staged, exhibited the hidden creative & artistic talents in our blooming children and bubbling adults who refuse to become ‘old.’ The sumptuous Onam Feast served with array of dishes on banana leaves brought the treat of the Carnival Season of Kerala. Men & Women in the typical ‘Onakkodi’ was yet another heartthrob of the day.
SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY
The Senior Citizens’ Day was celebrated on 23rd September, 2011 along with church service. Those completed 60 years of gifted & blessed life were honoured with a ‘Ponnada’ by our Vicar Rev. Thomas Koshy P.
MEDICAL STAFF RETREAT A gathering of 40 Medical Professionals from our parish meaningfully shared a Common Platform on this occasion. It has further helped to strengthen intimacy, knowledge, experience and above all concern for the physical upkeep of the needy. An idea to set up a ‘Guidance Center’ for our church members has also been mooted. A quarterly meeting is planned and all Medical Professionals are invited to join and extend their support.
