He started off that day with a kiss from a friend
It was the kiss of betrayal, the beginning of the end
Then the Roman soldiers seized Him and took Him away
Thirty pieces of silver was what Judas was paid
Think of the Apostles how He changed all their lives’
Before the cock crowed, Peter denied Him three times
Pilot asked the people ‘Whom shall we set free?’
‘Barabbas or this man Jesus who calls himself a king?‘
‘We question the circumstances under which He was born’
Give Him vinegar for water and a crown made of thorns’
Then they mocked Jesus covering His eyes so He could not see
‘If thou be the Christ tell us who struck Thee’
Then they took to the streets and made Him carry His own cross
They proceeded to Golgotha where the soldiers cast lots
The air whistled with the sound of the cat-o-nine
Ending in a crack — ripping flesh from His spine
Spiking Him to the cross their cruelty was shown
Splattering blood and splintering bone
Then they raised Jesus’ cross between two common thieves
One of which was saved because he believed
Now the Angel of Death was most certainly near
The soldier pierced His side with Destiny’s Spear
Then Jesus said ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do’
That’s the way our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died for you !
