POSITIVE FUTURES

WHY STUBBERS ADVENTURE CENTRE? WHO ARE WE?

At Stubbers Adventure Centre we have over 20 years experience of delivering adventure activities with about 40,000 visits each year. As a registered charity the company is run by trustees and managers motivated by a passion for introducing young people to adventure activities. The revenue from fees and the profits from our trading company, Stubbers Training Limited, are ploughed back into the centre to ensure our visitors get the best activity experience, instructors and equipment.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Open 7 days a week, all year round, we welcome groups and individuals wanting to participate in Adventure Activity Programmes, Learning Outside the Classroom Experiences or just to make use of the extensive grounds for walking or orienteering. Our tent villages and residential centre are available for residential stays. We also help organise and provide the venue for schools and club orienteering and cross country events. In fact the scope of our service is so wide covering an amazing holiday activity provision and corporate training days as well as youth outreach work. View our websites to find out more.

OUR VALUES...

SCHOOLS & YOUTH GROUPS 2018

OUR VALUES... AFFORDABILITY

We offer a range of programme options to provide best value to suit different budgets. Some adventurers may need financial assistance towards the visit. We are pleased to offer bursary funds that can help those adventurers coming from challenging backgrounds. Call the centre or check the website for details.

ACCESSIBILITY

We are committed to making our activities accessible regardless of additional needs. So where practical, there is specialist equipment provided to ensure that adventurers with additional needs can have the same activity experience as their friends.

FLEXIBILITY

We have groups of the widest range of age and capability, so we are used to the variety of challenge required from behaviour management to most able. One of the merits of our customer focused booking system is that we can build a programme that is best suited to your adventurers and your desired outcomes.

GUIDED BY... SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT

We believe the biggest risk our children face today is never being exposed to risk. We can’t eliminate risk and challenge is essential for learning. In addition to our statutory requirements, we as a very minimum, comply with inspections and recognition by the National Governing Bodies for Adventure Sports, while seeking to meet and exceed best practises in the industry. Stubbers Adventure Centre has consistently high commendations from all inspecting bodies including the Adventure Activity Licencing Service (AALS).

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

“Life is about the adventures you take and the memories you make”

Our leaders are provided with training to help them develop a range of behaviour management strategies that they tailor to individuals and groups. We also believe children need to learn to take responsibility for their actions so that they develop the capacity for sound judgement and accountability. But we realise that these skills takes time to develop and believe in second chances, always praising good behaviours as a first response to behaviour management.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

We believe that excellent customer service costs nothing and that adventurers feel valued when given quality well maintained equipment and well trained, attentive instructors. We are constantly monitoring your experience and ensuring your feedback receives immediate attention in order to maintain our high standards. For prices and activity choices, please see page 46-49.

OUR ACTIVITIES...

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to TRY”

SCHOOLS & YOUTH GROUPS 2018

OUR ACTIVITIES... We undoubtedly have a greater range of real adventure activities than any equivalent multi-activity provider (don’t be fooled by provision lists that are padded out by minor activities such as circus skills). On multi-activity days we aim to ensure that visitors have an experience that includes a “high” activity (such as climbing), a water based activity and an activity with feet firmly on the land. We are unique in that we can offer all of Quad Biking, Jet Ski Driving and Land Rover Driving for school years 4 and above. Our Learning Outside the Classroom programmes that run in the autumn and spring take the adventurers into the woodland to enjoy more freedom and explore their creativity. Each activity session will have a fun shakedown activity where the instructors can assess how to progress the session for the best outcomes for everyone. At the end we like to have a moment of reflection to help the adventurers relate their experience to the lessons learnt and most importantly how they can apply these to their own lives / environment.

ACTIVITIES...

LAND BASED ACTIVITIES

ARCHERY ••

RIFLE SHOOTING ••

Shoot for gold on our outdoor range. Games and competitions make this a great fun activity for all ages.

Sharp shooting with 0.177 calibre air rifles. It sounds very simple but this is a remarkably absorbing activity that requires self-discipline and patience to do well. Even agitated young people show concentration and patience in this disciplined sport.

ALL TERRAIN BOARDING ••

An experience similar to Snow Boarding but on wheels down a grass slope. This activity includes both controlled and accidental falls. While we take every measure to ensure safety, riders accept the increased risk.

GRASS SLEDGING •

This fast and exciting activity is an easier alternative to ATB. Zoom down the slopes in the tracked sledge.

TEAM GAMES ••••

Fun based team building session with progressive tasks to challenge any team.

TEAM CHALLENGE ••••

Can your team complete challenges like “Area 51”, “Jungle Rescue” and the “8 Foot Wall?”. Your Instructor will be on hand to offer guidance and tips.

TUNNEL ••••

Yes, it’s dark, it’s damp and it’s a tight fit. But you feel great when you have been through. A great activity for team bonding and support!

ORIENTEERING ••••

Explore the 130 acre Stubbers site with your team finding markers on the way. Challenges to suit all abilities.

LASER TAG •••

The most realistic combat game with great action, realistic sound effects and unlimited ammo. Teams are challenged by various game scenarios in this fast paced session.

Is the art of using ropes and wooden spars joined by lashings and knots to create a structure and is great for teaching practical skills, teamwork and problem solving.

BUSHCRAFT •••••

WOODLAND CONSTRUCTION •••••

CLIMBING •••

Providing Rock Climbing Challenge and fun for all skill levels. The “Rick Grice Memorial” outdoor climbing wall stands 11 metres high with overhangs and pinnacles for a realistic rock feel. For entry level climbing we have an innovative 13 metre 6 sided climbing tower with graded climbs using bolt on holds.

ABSEILING ••

Test your nerve as you descend a face of our 13 metre Tower. The instructor controls a safety rope so all you have to worry about is enjoying the view. Going up is easy using the stair case built into the tower.

HIGH ROPES AERIAL WALKWAY ••

Our newly refurbished Ropes Course. Challenges include: Swinging Bridge, Vine Traverse and Indiana Bridge. An excellent harness system gives you freedom of movement whilst ensuring that you remain in complete safety.

PAMPER POLE ••

All you have to do is climb to the top of the pole and jump for the trapeze. You can make the jump in pairs or on your own. Set your own level of challenge in this great activity.

CRATE STACK •••

A great team game. Build the highest tower possible with 2 people stood on the top until it falls over. A true test of balance, coordination and team work... and fun!

VERTICAL ASSAULT COURSE •••

An assault course, but up! Challenges include: Jacobs Ladder, Scramble Net and Pole Climb. Two adventurers at a time scale the course belayed by their team.

ADVENTURE PARK ••

The next step from the High Ropes Aerial Walkway, climb the Wobbly Ladder to gain access to a challenging Aerial Course!

ZIP WIRE An exhilarating 80 metre long Zip Wire! All you have to do is step off the platform and enjoy the ride!

QUICK JUMP •

Experience the feeling of free fall with our free fall simulator. All you have to do is step off the platform and enjoy the fall!

PIONEERING •••

TOWER ACTIVITIES

KEY: Activity Learning Outcomes:

•Skill •Confidence •Communication •Problem Solving •Leadership

Basic bushcraft skills are explored in our woodland base. Session may include: fire lighting skills, environmental awareness, camp craft and nature related games depending on adventurer age.

Half day session minimum. Adventurers learn supervised safe use of basic hand tools to develop the tree house wood. A session that is all about what the adventurers would like to construct or destruct!

ACTIVITIES...

WATER BASED ACTIVITIES

KAYAKING •••

The ever popular water sport that doesn’t always end in a good soaking. We have a designated sheltered canoe training lake and kayaks suitable for all sizes and experience levels.

OPEN CANOEING ••••

Open Canoes are ideal for groups of mixed age and ability. With two paddlers to a boat they are easy to get in and out of and are more stable than a kayak. The challenge is for front and back paddlers to work together.

••••

BELL BOATING A twin hulled open canoe that looks much like a catamaran hull. Seating 10 paddlers at a time the Bell Boat offers an excellent stable platform for enjoyable safe paddling but with mad racing and fun potential.

KATA KANU ••••

Similar to Bell Boating. Each Kata Kanu sits up to 6 people and features a sail for added speed downwind.

SAILING ••••

Our lake is ideal for safe learning and fun sailing. Our large fleet offers a boat for all levels: “Picos” for excitement and speed, “Omegas” for that bigger boat experience. For those with learning or access difficulties we are pleased to provide specialist “Access 303’s” and a hoist for access and egress from the craft.

PADDLE BOARDING ••••

Is an excellent activity combining balance and paddle skills with fun and games on the water. For younger groups participants may be paired on a board.

••••

RAFT BUILDING Build it, paddle it... Sink it? Our instructors are on hand to advise on building. An excellent team event and always popular.

MOTOR SPORT ACTIVITIES

QUAD BIKES ••

Based on our enclosed training track, adventurers learn and develop safe riding skills. Two bikes are on the track at any one time with one instructor dedicated to each bike.

4X4 DRIVING ••

Learn to drive in our dual control Land Rover Discoveries while experiencing the challenges of the bumps and dips of the Stubbers off road course. Accompanied by an instructor who will set progressive challenges.

JET SKI RIDES ••

Accompanied by an experienced instructor the degree of control permitted to the rider varies according to the competence and confidence of the rider. While we take every measure to ensure safety, riders accept the increased risk associated with this activity.

POWER BOAT RIDES ••

An accessible alternative for Jet Ski rides for those with additional needs.

BANANA RIDES ••

The inflatable banana is towed behind a Jet Ski. With up to 5 passengers on board. Hold tight and enjoy the ride.

••

INFLATABLE SOFA Experience the thrills of being towed on an inflatable with much less risk of ending up in the lake! The sofa is towed behind a Jet Ski with up to 4 passengers on board (depending on total weight). The challenge is to hold tight and enjoy the ride. A wheel chair accessible ramp with an easy slide transfer to the sofa makes this accessible for most adventurers (additional needs groups only).

OUR STAFF...

SCHOOLS & YOUTH GROUPS 2018

OUR STAFF... CUSTOMER SERVICES

We may be one of the largest activity centres in the South East but we often hear people tell us it feels like a family business. Our customer service team have been working together for a long time and many of our clients have been coming to us from the start of the business over 20 years ago. Because we believe that children benefit from sharing their experience with adults (and vice versa) we encourage the family feel of the centre welcoming all ages to enjoy the site.

MANAGERS

Our managers are all adventure activity professionals with long experience in the industry. They spend as much time on the ground with adventurers as they do in the office. So they get to hear what the adventurers like and can feed their ideas back. Our training and care of staff mirrors the attitude that we expect our team to show to our clients. We see people for everything they are and help them to become all they can be.

INSTRUCTORS

We understand that people learn in different ways, that’s why our instructors are trained in many different fields / teaching strategies. Our qualified and DBS cleared instructors acknowledge that everyone likes to be called by name and treated as an individual. They will ensure that all adventurers are engaged at a challenge level that is exciting enough but achievable. Our team understand that adventurers need someone to believe in them and push them a little while being there to help or encourage when required.

We expect a responsible adult to remain on-site with the group for the duration of the visit. Other than in the circumstances above the young people remain the responsibility of the accompanying adults. We do not accept residential bookings from parties of young people who are not accompanied by at least one adult leader aged 21 years or older. While the choice of appropriate ratio of responsible adults to children is left to the discretion of the person making the booking we recommend a ratio of one adult to 10 children. ACCIDENTS Adventurous Activities by their nature carry an element of risk of death or injury. All persons that agree to take part in activities at the centre do so at acceptance of that risk. It is the responsibility of the party leader to ensure that all members of the party understand and accept the risks involved and that, in the case of young people, parental permission has been obtained. HIGHER RISK ACTIVITIES Members of your party should be made aware that although every reasonable effort is made to control the risk, the activities Quad Biking, Jet Skis and All Terrain Boarding carry a higher risk of injury when not ridden correctly. Any person not wishing to accept that risk should not take part in the activity. We accept responsibility should you or any member of your party suffer death, personal injury or illness because of our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents, suppliers or subcontractors (providing they are working specifically as instructed by us). This acceptance of responsibility however is subject to all of our booking conditions. We cannot accept liability where the death, personal injury or illness was due to the act(s) and / or omission(s) of the person(s) affected or where we or the supplier of the service in question could not have foreseen an event or avoided it even with all due care.

INSURANCE Stubbers Adventure Centre has 3rd Party liability insurance of £ 10 million. We do not provide insurance for personal accident, loss or damage to personal property or for cancellation. It is recommended that you arrange your own insurance for these events. SPECIAL REQUESTS Special or medical requests must be made at the time of booking. Such requests do not form part of the contract between us and are not guaranteed. As an adventurous activities operator there may be exceptional circumstances where we feel unable to meet a customers’ specific needs. We reserve the right to refuse any booking should such a situation arise. SITE RULES Whilst we want all of our customers to enjoy their visit the person making the booking is responsible for their own actions and the actions of other members of the party and the effect that these may have on others. You must ensure that your party is made aware of and abides by the site rules and regulations and that reasonable care is taken of the accommodation, facilities and equipment. We reserve the right to seek damages from you if our property is wilfully damaged. In such circumstances we will not be liable for reimbursing the cost of your visit or contributing to any expenses you may incur in making alternative arrangements. We cannot be held responsible if you suffer loss or damage as a consequence of failing to take reasonable precautions for you and your party. DOGS We regret that pets other than guide dogs are not permitted on-site. SMOKING, ALCOHOL AND DRUGS In compliance with the law, smoking is not permitted in buildings, shelters, tents and activity areas. Young people under 18 years of age are not permitted to smoke on-site other than in a designated outside area within their residential area as agreed by the party leader and out of view of other client groups. No person will be permitted to take part in activities if in the opinion of Stubbers staff that individual may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Consumption of alcohol on-site is at the discretion of the management. However, we do not expect young people to be given access to alcohol during their visit. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK If you have any feedback during your visit please inform the Duty Manager on-site who will endeavour to help you. If the matter is not dealt with to your satisfaction please complete a Feedback survey which is available in the reception building or can be completed online in your own time. Failure to follow this simple procedure may prevent a full investigation of the points that you raise. We cannot therefore accept liability for any complaint or claim that is not reported in accordance with this procedure unless the claim or complaint involves death, personal injury or illness.
