WELCOME TO

SMASH CAMPS 2018... Hello and welcome to SMASH Camps. We are an exciting holiday activity camp offering the biggest variety of REAL adventurous activities in the UK for school years 2 to 11. For 20 years we have been providing multi-activity days and residential camps for young people in the south east and now see many of the young adventurers we once entertained working for us as SMASH crew and instructors. Our staff really make the experience for the young adventurers, so we employ enthusiastic and energetic SMASH crew that have experience working with children, many of them training or employed as teachers. We also make sure they are all thoroughly trained in first aid, child behaviour management, safe guarding and are all DBS checked. Where many camps have hidden costs, here at SMASH we provide true value for money with free early and late pick up running meaning our days from 08:30 to 18:00, free theme days and free 24-hour refunds if you have to cancel last minute. So if your child is looking for an adventure, we welcome them to join us at SMASH Camps 2018 for an experience they will never forget.

Every morning you can drop off your adventurer as early as 08:30 where we will entertain them up to their first activity.

LATE PICK UP - FREE

Our activity programme finishes around 16:30 but from then till 18:00 we run a free late club, where we will entertain your adventurer with games, movies and sports, all run by our amazing SMASH crew. We understand that sometimes you may be late to pick up your child but please note that we may apply a late charge of £5 per interval of 15 minutes for regular lateness. This will be applied to your next booking.

At SMASH we understand that sometimes things don’t quite go to plan. That is why we offer a free refund up to 1 working day before your adventurers visit (terms apply).

BREAKFAST CLUB - £5

Mad rush every morning? Why don’t you utilise our Breakfast Club. Every morning we run a club where you can drop your adventurer off between 08:00 to 08:30 and we will provide them breakfast. They will have a choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast or cereal while supervised by one of our SMASH Crew. Pay on booking or on drop off.

LUNCH - £6.50

When you book simply add lunch to your booking and your adventurer will receive a packed lunch which includes: sandwich (they can choose the filling), crisps, fruit, chocolate biscuit, snack pack and a drink carton. If they are still hungry we have a pop up cafe which offers well priced drinks and snacks throughout the day. Pay on booking or on drop off.

SMASH PACK - £25

We offer SMASH goodies to buy from pencils to t-shirts but if you want something special why not get one of our SMASH packs. Our SMASH Packs include: a t-shirt, water bottle, rubber wrist band, baseball cap, and all in an awesome SMASH backpack. An amazing addition for your young adventurer for when they arrive.

AFFORDABILITY AID - FREE

It’s important to us that Stubbers Adventure Centre is accessible to all young people, allowing them to have an opportunity to develop and enjoy the outdoors. Being away from home for the first time can be a little scary, so we offer the discoverers their own private area and a dedicated team of Discoverer specific SMASH play leaders to make sure they feel safe and have an adult nearby at all times. With no more than 10 children to one instructor and all our instructors qualified in first aid you can relax knowing your child will be in safe hands.

MULTI–ACTIVITY DAY OR WEEK?

We have some exciting options for you to choose from. If you opt for the day package your discoverer will experience 4 of our popular adventurous activities. However, if you opt for the week package you not only get the fifth day for only £1 but your little discoverer will get to do all our premium activities such as Quad Biking and Speed Boat Driving. Our programme for school years 4 to 11 is a little harder than the Discoverers programme. They will participate in longer, more adventurous activities. We do this so they can start to develop new skills and gently push them to travel out of their comfort zones.

All our groups are no bigger than 10 adventurers and are supervised by a minimum of one instructor, they also have a dedicated SMASH play leader assigned to that group, so you can rest assured that your child will be supervised at all times and if they are feeling nervous or simply want a break they have a friendly face to talk to. We also like to group our adventurers with others of similar age optimising opportunities to build long lasting friendships.

SPECIALIST DAYS: SMASH QUAD BIKE RIDERS COURSE

SPECIALIST DAYS AND WEEKS... Is your adventurer a water sports fanatic or budding special forces commando? Then we have just the thing! SMASH Camps have a variety of specialist days and weeks that focus on what your adventurers love. So if they want to gain qualifications in water sports, have a mechanical mind and love 4x4 or want to learn about survival, we have a variety of days and weeks available for you every school holiday. Our specialist days and weeks run from 08:30 and pick up between 16:30 to 18:00. Add breakfast club for £5 and you can drop your adventurer from 08:00 and we will provide them with a healthy breakfast.

All equipment included This day follows the European ATV Safety Institute (EASI) for safe quad bike riding. There is a maximum 2 riders sharing a bike taking it in turns to practice and demonstrate riding skills. The day ends with an exciting trail ride subject to numbers and demonstration of ability.

SMASH YOUNG DRIVERS DAY

• For school years 8-11 • £59 per head • Runs every Wednesday during all school holidays

This day will teach you the basic skills to drive off road where you will learn: introduction to mechanical understanding and care for vehicle, introduction to basic controls of the vehicle and beginnings of intermediate off-roading skills.

SMASH SPECIAL FORCES TRAINING DAY

• For school years 4-11 • £39 per head • Runs every Thursday during all school holidays

Assault course, survival training, camouflage and concealment techniques, laser tag and other special forces training. If this all sounds fun to you then our Special Forces Training Day is perfect for you.

DISCOVERERS SLEEP OVER

• For school years 2-3 (Discoverers) • £110 per head (If you have booked a week package simply add £32 and your discoverer can attend the sleepover) • All food included (excluding breakfast and lunch on day of arrival) • Available Thursday 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd of August 2018

This is a great way to gently introduce your discoverers to the outdoors. After a full day of activities you will grab your bags and head into the woods. Here you will set up camp and get a fire going ready to cook dinner. Once everyone is full of food you will head on an adventure around site, finally sitting around the bonfire toasting marshmallows and singing songs. After a healthy breakfast in the morning you get another full day of activities with lunch supplied by us.

Feel like you’re too old to enjoy SMASH? Thinking what would it be like to be part of the SMASH crew? Then this is the programme for you. Designed for school years 9 to 11 this programme gives you more time on activities such as motor sports and water sports allowing you to learn at your own pace and giving you the essential skills required to become a SMASH Crew Play Leader. No rushing and no youngsters annoying you, just other teenagers your own age enjoying an awesome day at SMASH.

With the senior week programme you will receive more premium activities such as double 4x4 session and Jet Ski sessions, so you can progress further than a regular group. That’s not all! We also want you to look the part, so you will receive your own SMASH t-shirt (SMASH Week only) and VIP badge which allows you freedom to roam around and access into the VIP area where you will find your own sports equipment with no young adventurers to get in your way.

Commando week is packed full of excitement including assault courses, camouflage and concealment techniques, laser tag combat and other special forces skills such as abseiling and raft building.

We round the week off by testing your survival skills on a tactical exercise where you must build a fire in order to eat and keep warm, set up hammocks for sleep all while being covert as an ambush is imminent, so don’t leave your laser tag rifle behind! This will all take place on the Thursday night (Included in price). The week is commanded by our very own Sergeant Major – who loves nothing more than dishing out press-ups to those who lack the respect they warrant!! If you complete the course you will receive a ‘survivor’ t-shirt and dog tag. Go on, give this week a go... if you think ‘you’re hard enough!’

ALL INCLUSIVE RESIDENTIAL! SMASH AIR is the perfect addition to any of our SMASH weeks, letting your adventurer immerse themselves into a week of adventure. Staying away from home for the first time can be a little scary, so at SMASH AIR they are allocated a camp counsellor who is there for them 24 hours a day throughout their stay. They will also be grouped with adventurers of similar age to maximise friendship building. They will experience a full package of adventure activities during the day, and specialist evening entertainment by night from fishing to playing on our amazing aqua park. So there is always something for them to do.

At SMASH we like to make every part of the day exciting, including meal times, where the adventurers have a great selection of fresh food to choose from, so even the most fussy can find something. Looking to get away with the family for an adventure packed weekend, then look no further. Stubbers Adventure Centre in Upminster hosts a number of adventure camping weekends during the summer holidays specifically designed for families, where you can truly embrace nature without the long car journey in our 130 acre grounds. During the weekend you will have the opportunity to take part in a number of adrenaline filled activities such as climbing or paddle boarding, or why not take to the wild and try our bushcraft session. Enjoy your camping experience either in your own tent or hire one of our family canvas bunkhouses which makes life that little bit more comfortable with 4 bunk beds (8 beds in total) on a raised wooden platform to keep you dry and warm (extra cost applies). We have a wonderful coffee shop on site, so once you have finished your activity why not finish off your day with a nice relaxing coffee and a large slice of cake provided by The Source Coffee Shop.

Shoot for gold on our outdoor range. Games and competitions make this a great fun activity for all abilities, which is easy to get the hang of and improve your skills.

Build it, paddle it, try to stay on it! Our instructors are on hand to advise you on building an improvised raft to take you on a journey around the lake. A popular event, often chosen as the finale to a great day that brings everyone together.

QUICK JUMP

Experience the feeling of free fall with our free fall simulator. All you have to do is step off the platform and enjoy the fall!

LAND BASED ACTIVITIES

ALL TERRAIN BOARDING

An experience similar to Snowboarding, but on wheels down a grass slope. You will learn how to manoeuvre the board and bring it to a controlled stop. The adventurous nature of this activity does carry with it certain risks, but do not be deterred, we start you off at low level both skill-wise and height-wise, and will only progress you when you are ready.

RIFLE SHOOTING

Sharp shooting with 0.177 calibre air rifles. It sounds very simple but this is a remarkably absorbing activity that requires self-discipline and patience to do well. You also get to keep your target as a trophy!

HIGH ALTITUDE ACTIVITIES CLIMBING

Providing challenges and fun for all skill levels. You’ll tackle either our 13 metre wooden tower with various climbs to be conquered, or our 11 metre concrete wall for a realistic rock climbing experience.

TEAM CHALLENGE ACTIVITIES

Test your nerve as you descend from the top of the Tower. The instructor controls a safety rope so all you have to worry about is enjoying the experience.

HIGH ROPES

Challenges include: Swinging bridge, vine traverse and Indiana bridge. An excellent harness system gives you freedom of movement whilst ensuring that you remain in complete safety.

Yes, it’s dark, it’s damp and it’s a tight fit. But you feel great when you have got through. A truly team bonding experience that you won’t forget in a hurry.

The ever popular water sport that need not end in a good soaking. We have a sheltered lake and kayaks suitable for all sizes and experience levels.

OPEN CANOEING

Open Canoes are ideal for groups with mixed confidence and ability. With two paddlers to a boat they are easy to get in and out of and are generally more stable than a kayak. The challenge is getting your rhythm together.

SAILING Our lake is ideal for safe learning and fun sailing.

Speed across the lake in our Pico’s, learning the lingo as you go. For those with learning or access difficulties we are pleased to provide specialist ‘Access 303’s’ and a hoist for safe, easy access.

STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDING

(MAY – SEPTEMBER) An introduction to the latest popular way to get onto the water. Stand-up Paddle Boarding combines balance and paddle skills with ludicrous amounts of fun on the water.

Our sailing club runs every Thursday by our experienced RYA Instructors. Here you can work towards your RYA stages or levels of sailing. We have a selection of vessels to try including Picos, Bugs or our Omega all of which are great fun. You will be self-efficient in no time rigging your own boat and sailing away.

Every Tuesday we run a paddle sport club where you can work towards your British Canoe Paddle Power, Star Awards, BSUPA Ready to Ride or just turn up and go kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. The sessions are run by experienced British Canoeing and BSUPA coaches who will teach you the essential skills in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Those that live in Havering have an opportunity to be part of the London Youth games competing for medals - Come on HURRICANES!

BY BUS

You can catch the 370 bus which drops you off at the New Stubbers Adventure Centre bus stop right outside our gates. If you are attending a SMASH Camp activity please inform us and we can arrange your adventurer to be met at the bus stop by one of our SMASH staff who will escort them to SMASH HQ, settling them in and at the end of the day escorted back to the bus stop. Please check the TFL website for more detailed information on bus times a routes.

If you are travelling by train the closest station to get off at is Upminster. Here you can leave the station and get the 370 bus to right outside our gates. Alternatively there are a number of taxis outside the station.

At Stubbers we are committed to providing high quality adventurous activities in a safe and fun environment. To make sure we provide the highest level of supervision SMASH is a voluntary member of Ofsted, who supply us with strict guidelines to ensure the Standard of care is excellent.

We will work with parents, schools and group leaders to ensure that your child’s experience is enjoyable.

Following a yearly inspection we are a licensed provider under the Activity Centres (Young Persons’ Safety) Act 1995 and the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 2004 through the Adventure Activities Licensing Service. Stubbers Adventure Centre was awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge in 2009 for not only our commitment to engage in high quality learning outside the classroom but in our successful delivery. To retain this award our bookings and operational systems, practices and activities are inspected by the LOtC every 2 years.

Trips away from home form an important part of developing life skills and confidence and we are proud to be a part of your child’s education. WILL MY CHILD DO ACTIVITIES OFF SITE?

We offer a varied programme consisting of up to 4 activity sessions per day from our wide range of adventurous activities based in our Land, Water, Towers and Motor Sports Zones. In the evening we offer other activities including night walk, campfire, movie nights and discos.

We find that young people enjoy themselves most in old clothing with layers for colder weather. They will require long sleeves and trousers for some activities. Footwear needs to be enclosed (flip flops are not suitable) and is likely to get wet. Bring plenty of clothes and a bag for wet and muddy clothing.

WHAT IF MY CHILD CAN’T SWIM?

In the safe confines of the centre we do not require participants to be able to swim. When near water they will always wear a buoyancy aid or life jacket. This will support them safely should they fall in until an instructor is able to assist them. If you think your child will need extra assistance, please let us know.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?

Most activities are not affected by the weather as long as the children are dressed appropriately. If an instructor feels that children are too hot, cold or wet they can shorten or change the activity for another.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION?

Please ensure that the leaders are aware of any medical conditions and that your child has any medication required with them. This will help us to look after any extra needs your child may have.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS ADDITIONAL NEEDS?

At Stubbers there is something for everyone, all ages and abilities can take part, achieve their goals and enjoy their visit. Most activities can be tailored to all ability levels and some are supported by specialist activity equipment including specialist sailing boats and access hoist. Please make sure that our staff are aware of any additional needs that your child may have.

CAN I PHONE MY CHILD DURING THEIR STAY?

In special circumstances, yes. However we do find that children speaking to their parents for a catch up can make their time away from home harder, not easier. We don’t recommend that children bring mobile phones to the centre. SMASH CAMPS however is a no Mobile phone zone. We will happily look after it for them during their visit and issue the phone at allocated times.

DO CHILDREN FROM DIFFERENT GROUPS MIX?

In general, no. Each group has their own accommodation or base for their stay and their own activity programme.

We are pleased to provide full changing and shower facilities. The Source Coffee Shop is open every day providing high quality drinks and snacks. The Young Adventurers play park is available for use under the supervision of leaders.

On some occasions such as SMASH water sports weeks we take groups off-site. On these occasions we would firstly seek permission from you. But you can rest assured knowing that your child will be supervised by a appropriately qualified instructor at all times.

IS THERE NIGHT TIME SUPERVISION?

Our evening routine is to get every one into bed and lights out by 22.00 - Normally easier said than done! Once settled our duty members of staff are on hand to reassure and encourage the young adventurers to go sleep. If during the night they need the toilet, there is always a staff member available to accompany them. To make sure they are nice and safe throughout the night the camp is situated in a fenced compound with secure coded gates.

DOES STUBBERS HAVE INSURANCE?

Stubbers Adventure Centre has £10 million public liability insurance. Any claim for compensation will be referred to the underwriters. We strongly recommend that you take out suitable insurance cover against cancellation, accidental injury and loss for damage to personal property whilst visiting the centre.

HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN SAFETY ON ACTIVITY?

At Stubbers we regularly check and maintain our safety equipment to the highest standards and ensure that it is continually safe and reliable. Following training, staff are regularly monitored to ensure standards are maintained.

HOW DO YOU RECRUIT YOUR STAFF?

The Stubbers staff have many years experience both at Stubbers and at other centres. Upon application all staff are required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure, provide us with 3 satisfactory references, undertake a training period (the length of which depends on qualifications and experience) and work their first month on probation. All staff are qualified First Aiders.

WHAT IF MY CHILD LEAVES BEHIND ANY CLOTHING?

Valuables and small items will be kept for 4 weeks and if not claimed will be disposed of at the centre’s discretion. Clothing is disposed of weekly. Wet or very dirty clothing is disposed of daily.

WHO DO I CONTACT IN EMERGENCY? If you need to contact Stubbers call 01708 224753 between 09:00 and 17:00. If they are staying with us we will provide you with a mobile number to contact us out of hours.

PAYMENT AND CHILD CARE VOUCHERS Full Payment must be made at the time of booking. If paying by an agreed child care voucher provider, your booking isn’t confirmed until we receive the payment. Please allow up to 5 working days for Child care vouchers to reach us and use your Customer ID as a reference.

OFF-SITE ACTIVITIES A number of our SMASH Camp packages include off-site activities such kayaking on the River Chelmer. All our usual standards of care and supervision apply. All children may participate in off-site events unless we specifically receive written notification to the contrary from parents or guardians.

CONFIRMATION Once you have received your receipt (Normally via email) this is confirmation of your booking. Please check all details on the invoice including date, activity, child name and notify us immediately if any details are incorrect.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK If you have any feedback during your visit please inform the SMASH Manager or Duty Manager on site who will endeavour to help you. If the matter is not dealt with to your satisfaction please complete a Feedback Form which is available from the reception building. Please hand this form in at reception or send it with any covering letter to the Centre Manager within 28 days of the end of your visit. Failure to follow this simple procedure may prevent a full investigation of the points that you raise. We cannot therefore accept liability for any complaint or claim that is not reported in accordance with this procedure unless the claim or complaint involves death, personal injury or illness.

CANCELLATIONS Full refunds will be given if we are notified one working day before the reservation. If you wish to cancel your booking you must notify us immediately in writing to info@stubbers. co.uk. Until confirmation is received we will continue to hold your reservation. All cancellations will be acknowledged. If cancellation is due to illness a full refund may be given with less than 24 hours notice subject to the illness being medically certified. There is a £5 admin charge with any cancellation. PROGRAMME CHANGES Stubbers reserve the right to change the activity programme in the event of instructor qualifications, equipment serviceability, poor weather or where there are concerns for safety. EXCLUSIONS Stubbers reserves the right to exclude from activity or the site or refuse any person at any time if in our opinion, the person’s behaviour is unsafe or spoiling the enjoyment for other site users or otherwise not in accordance with site rules. No refund will be given. PERSONAL PROPERTY Your personal effects are your responsibility at all times, unless any loss or damage is due to negligence or failure in our procedure. We recommend that you take out personal effects insurance. LOST PROPERTY This is disposed of weekly. Wet or very dirty clothes is disposed of daily. Valuables and small items will be kept for 4 weeks and if not claimed will be disposed into the Stubbers Charitable Bursary fund. PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO FOOTAGE Please note that we use photos or videos taken by authorised personnel for inclusion in promotional material including our website. Please inform us on booking if you or your group do not wish your photo to be taken. DOGS We regret that pets other than guide dogs are not permitted on site. SMOKING, ALCOHOL AND DRUGS In compliance with the law, smoking is not permitted in buildings, shelters, tents and activity areas. People over 18 years of age are not permitted to smoke on site other than in a designated outside area No person will be permitted to take part in activities if in the opinion of Stubbers staff that individual may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Consumption of alcohol on site is at the discretion of the management. However, we do not expect young people to be given access to alcohol during their visit.

RISK ASSESSMENTS Copies of our standard operating procedures and risk assessments can be made available on request. INSURANCE COVER AND LIABILITY Stubbers Adventure Centre has a 10 million public indemnity and liability insurance. Stubbers Adventure Centre does not accept liability for personal injury or loss or damage unless proven negligence of the company or their employees. ACCIDENTS Adventurous Activities by their nature carry an element of risk of death or injury. All persons that agree to take part in activities at the centre do so at acceptance of that risk. It is the responsibility of the party leader to ensure that all members of the party understand and accept the risks involved and that, in the case of young people, parental permission has been obtained. HIGHER RISK ACTIVITIES Members of your party should be made aware that although every reasonable effort is made to control the risk, the activities Quad Biking, Jet Skis and All Terrain Boarding carry a higher risk of injury when not ridden correctly. Any person not wishing to accept that risk should not take part in the activity. We accept responsibility should you or any member of your party suffer death, personal injury or illness because of our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents, suppliers or subcontractors (providing they are working specifically as instructed by us). This acceptance of responsibility however is subject to all of our booking conditions. We cannot accept liability where the death, personal injury or illness was due to the act(s) and / or omission(s) of the person(s) affected or where we or the supplier of the service in question could not have foreseen an event or avoided it even with all due care.
