Module 1 How to draw a croissant
1
PHOTOS AND SCANED IMAGES A series of photos of the plan view and side views of the croissant were taken on a photo stage. By scanning the underside of the croissant, all photographs can be scaled to the true size. The croissant was then be cut to 4 sections and scaned. All the photos are composed on an A3 paper. This stage helped me to learn the skill of setting a photostage and the basic skills of photoshop and illustrator.
2
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS After photographing and scaning, each images are outlined, hatched and shaded on another piece of tracing paper. For the outline, I used a thicker line weight to show the overall shape. I used 2h and h pencil for hatching and 2b pencil for shading. In order to make sure the shading is effective and detailed, I put a blank white paper between the photo and the tracing paper to make the drawings visible. Through this stage, my drawing technique was encreased and I also leared how lines can affect the drawing.
3
AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION The final stage of this module is to produce axonometric projections of each croissant sections. I have learned this drawing concept begorce so it is no too hard for me. A grid lwas laid onto each section drawing and the points of intersection between the section lines and the grid lines were marked. There points can guid me to draw the axonometric drawings of the croissant section.

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD
I taped the printed front view of Mario world on the table upside down on a 45 degree angle. An A3 piece of tracing aper was also angled and overlayed. I used a T-square, a set square and a rular to draw the parallel lines. As my mario world has two layers so I need two tracing paper for different layers. They two papers were then be scaned and combined in the computer.

NEW MARIO WORLD
The making of new Mario world.
This world is a double-layers city in the sky with mountains, trees, springs and little houses. The use of different darkness of color creates a sense of three-dimensional. Variation of forms is used to create a sense of layering. I combined some of the objects half inset with each other which makes them looks more interactive. In order to create a sense of float, I add some blocks around the basement with different altitudes. Moreover, the spring also looks endless downwards. For details, I insert some toy bricks elements such as the basement is locked together by the grooves.

Modeling the Landscape
Digital models were produced in Rhino Panelling tools. I created 5 different models from fat so slender. As my landscape is a slent one, so i ued one point attractive to highlight this feature, the mid area is flat and the side area is tall. I also created a symmetrical pattern to make the whole landscape looks balance. All the models are unrolled in different layers in order to seperate easier. Tabs are added on the lineworks and all of them are exported to Illustrator. The most important aspect of this task was to make sure the shapes are buildable.

PAPER LANDSCAPE
The making of new landscape All the lineworks are firstly printed on normal A3 papers and then I sticked them on the Ivory cards for cutting. The reason for not directly printed on the ivory card is because some of the models have a window on the top so the lines can be seen. Through the folding stage, as the ivory card has two layers, I can cut one layer to make it easier to fold. After folding all the 100 models, I used the craft glue to stick them together.

Hidden Cities 2: Raissa Jinhao Lu, 988085
INVISIBLE CITY My final template shows both the isometric perspective and 2 views of my story. Through my notiations I have tried to explain the movement of the characters and the mood in a particular space. The 1st view matches the heavy mood and the 2nd view matches the lighter mood which represent the happiness of the city. There are also more movement notations in the second view to make it vivid. Some viewing and facing of the characters are also added in order to show the relationhship between characters.

Perspective 1 The 1st sence describe the dark side of city. I choose a crying kid sits near the post, a broken plate is on the floor. Two merchants are argueing beside a work bench as the story mentions. I put two broken window on the two sides to create a enclosure space. The vault, and the collumns are shown in dirty and old bricks, the floor is also ruined. The whole view looks sorrowful and makes people feel depressive.
15
Perspective 2 The 2nd view shows the happy side of the city. A kid laughs seeing a dog that jumped to bite a pancake. A painter is drawing a flying bird. A man rides a horse into the quad with a smile. Happiness can bee seen in all the characters’s face The vault and the collumns are made by clean marbels, out side the quad is a beautiful village. The whole sence is rendered by the sunlight and looks warm and peace.

REFLECTION
1) what did you learn from these projects with reference to lectures? Through the M1, I gained a understanding of the idea of sections by cutting the croissant. I also learned how the way in which a line is drawn can affect its meaning. Through the M2, I learned how to transform 2D plan to a 3D drawing. Further more, I also gained a understanding of the importance of anxonometric drawing. In M3, I understand the developable surface and the use of pattern. In M4, I learned the Durer’s rules for perspectival projection and the effect of different perspective. More over I also understand how to use notations. 2) What skill set did you gain? Through M1, I improved my drawing skill and I learned how to set a photo stage. In M2, through editing the Mario world by computer, I improved the skill on PS and AI. In M3, I learned how to use panelling tools in Rhino and how to unroll the 3D models. In M4, I learned more functions of Rhino by making the Old Quad. And I also improved my PS skills. 3) If a particular module is not successful, why? and how can you improve it? If you have made amendmnets to improve drawings, please note it here. My M4 is not really successful because I couldnot find some clear image of characters.
