Initial Research To conduct primary research, I visited Leeds City Centre and explored the architecture and the history behind the buildings through use of drawings and illustration.

To further my research, I visited Armley Mills, in Leeds. From this, I learnt about the manufacturing of fabrics in the mill and the tailoring era in Leeds.

I also paid a visit to Leeds City Museum and attended the Tailoring Exhibition, while I was there I drew a collection of quick sketches of the garments they had on show.

Garment Research Moving on, I conducted secondary research into designers and began to explore garments.

F a b r i c at i o n I decided to explore pintucks for my fabrication samples. I got the idea of creating pintucks from the image shown. The depth and level of the stairs are represented through the folds in the fabric. For each sample I explored different coloured stitch, the width of the fold and the distance between each pintuck.
