GENDER FLUID

The way we define gender is changing. There is no longer a line drawn between Menswear and Womenswear. Thanks to media influencers such as bloggers and celebreties society is becoming more loose in what items of clothing they choose to wear. My collection aims to challenge the labels of fashion and gender. Architecture continues to change and develop as well as gender roles and fashion. My theme will look at the fluid, smooth and angular shapes within architecture to inspire a modern silhouette with a sports luxe edge.

STREET STYLE ANALYSIS: Lots of oversized shapes were reocurring in my research. This was an element i wanted to take forward into my designs. Bomber jackets with ribbing and collegiate typography was also a very key trend.

COLOUR TREND:

YELLOW The colour yellow was an emerging trend amongst trendy people on the street. Mustard and Lemon yellow tones were incorporated in coats, scarves and skirts.

CULTURE To begin my Cultural Research i went to a lot of mueseums and exhibitions around London aswell as taking my own photos of things that interest me.. When i collated and reflected on my research Architecture stood out to me as a topic i wanted to explore further. I really like the lines, shapes, textures and colours that are created.

“ I CHALLENGE THE LABEL WOMENSWEAR Social Imagery Research

Moving on from my Cultural research, i thought it was really important to also research social imagery. I felt it was significant to know what was trending in society as this could deeply influence my design concept. I read an article in Grazia about dressing and gender in the fashion industry. This article spoke about people who chose not to conform to gender stereotypes- in terms of fashion. I found this article really inspiring and this went on to inspire my design concept. The Louis Vuitton Womenswear Spring 2016 campaign also further inspired my design concept, the womenswear campaign featured Jaiden Smith as the main model. This campaign created alot of controversy aswell as support as Jaiden Smith is shown wearing a skirt. All of this research helped inform my design direction, i decided to design towards my own Unisex collection which will continue to challenge gender stereotypes within the fashion industry.
