Dear Readers, I love working on StudentsXpress. I look forward to each issue and what the students will write and draw. I love going through all of the submissions, and I wish I could include more in the publication. I’m looking forward to next school year because, thanks to Authors in the Schools, we can continue to bring StudentsXpress to you. I will show love for him when I take care of him when he gets older. I love my sisters when they buy me things and I love them when I buy things for them too. Love is something that everybody needs. It is a feeling that people have inside. Love makes people feel good about themselves and others. I like feeling love. I smile when I am feeling loved. For example, when my mother tells me something that I did something good, I smile because I feel that she loves me. Another love that I have is for my dog, Brownie. She’s a brown pitbull and she plays with me every day. I feed and clean her because I love her. When you love something you take care of it. If I did not love Brownie, I would not care what happens to her. I also have another love. It’s for my sisters and brothers. I love them very much and they love me. When I forget to do something, they always remind me. They don’t want me to get in trouble so they help me out. I help them too. I always do their chores so they don’t get in trouble. My mother shows her love even when I am bad. I clean the whole house even when not asked to show my love for my mother. Grandma loves me when she cooks my favorite meal and she hugs me every day. Once there was a guy named Dave. He lived in a house on Rage Avenue. He was very bellicose. One day little Tim was playing ball. He accidently kicked it into a deep hole in Dave’s garden. Dave said, “Haha. Serves him right!” Suddenly Dave saw a single tear go down Tim’s little cheek. Dave’s heart broke. He got the ball out of the hole and gave it to Tim. Tim was very happy. “Thank you Mista” said Tim. Dave then learned to love. So the moral of this story is: No matter how hot your temper is, you should always love. —Nathan S. Love can be for anyone. The person you hate the most, you never know you may have something in common, just have to see and find out. Try writing poetry or read some love books or do what you do the best. Ask a friend or somebody that has experience showing positive emotions. Love is like no other. It doesn’t take hard work. It takes passion and trust. Love is hard but you will get used to it. Sometimes you get married or divorced. You just have to find the one. Love is complicated. Give it a try. —Ray’qwaun J. My Momma My mom loves me! I know this because she supports me. She makes sure that I have whatever I need in school to be successful and she trusts me to take care of my siblings, especially my baby sister. It doesn’t matter what the school calls her for my mom always shows up. She comes to the school for good news and bad. Although she hasn’t been called as much this year about my behavior which is good. She attends all of my athletic events. I play football and basketball and somehow she makes it to most of my games. Supporting me is one of the ways I know my mother loves me. I get lots of clothes and shoes. She buys me things I don’t even expect and never see it coming. She keeps a roof over my head and food on the table for me and my brothers and sister. She does cool things for me for my birthday that make me feel special. She also talks to me and helps me to be a smooth, upstanding man. I know my mom loves me because she never doubts me and she always puts up with me! She helps me be what I am today. A strong upstanding smart man. With a big brain and a little head. She makes me laugh and I do the same. I keep a smile on her face. I help her around the house. I try to eat it all the time. In the summer, I eat ice cream every day. My favorite flavor is strawberry and cookies and cream. I love the taste of that ice cream. When I eat it, I SMILE!
