New Works puts together paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and installations by local, regional, and international artists. Since its first debut in TAKSU Singapore in 2004, New Works has become an annual platform in TAKSU galleries (started with KL and Singapore, and since 2011, Bali) for new artists to exhibit alongside up-and-coming and mid-career artists. Prior to each of New Works exhibition, TAKSU runs an open-call for artists to submit their portfolio, which would be reviewed by TAKSU curatorial team, and selected works are to be presented in New Works. TAKSU Bali’s 2012 edition of New Works brings together paintings, prints, and sculptures by eleven artists, with introduction to works of: Abdul Fattah (Indonesia) and Tandya Rachmat (Indonesia), and featuring new works by: Agathe de Bailliencourt (France/USA), Agus Sumiantara (Indonesia), Budi Agung Kuswara (Indonesia), Gerardo Tan (Philippines), Lai Ngan Corio (Malaysia/UK), Made Kaek (Indonesia), Ketut Moniarta (Indonesia), Lynyrd Paras (Philippines), and Uuk Paramahita (Indonesia).

Graduated from the Fine Art faculty of Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. He has been actively participating in group exhibitions in various galleries in Yogyakarta, Solo, and Jakarta since 2005. Among his recent exhibitions include: Biennale Indonesian Art Award: Contemporaneity at Galeri Nasional Indonesia (2010), The Indonesian Heritage Society (2009), THE HIGHLIGHT: From Medium to Transmedium at Jogja National Museum (2008). Abdul Fattah lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Agathe de Bailliencourt’s media range from canvas and paper to public spaces and architecture. After graduating from Ecole Boulle in Paris, she has been working and exhibiting internationally. Her work on canvas and paper has been exhibited in Paris, Berlin, New York City, Shanghai, Tokyo, Osaka, Mumbai and Singapore, among others. In 2006, she participated in the Singapore Biennale with a site-specific paint installation. In 2007, she completed her first largescale light projection at the IHZ-Building/Berlin, followed by another light installation in 2008 at the Berliner Dom and an installation for the Shanghai Zendai Museum. In 2009, she was invited by Mori Art Museum in Tokyo for an installation, then by Tokyo Wonder Site Residency. In 2010, she published an artist book with Revolver Publishing and had her first New York solo exhibition, showing work on canvas. In 2011, she completed a permanent public installation for a High School in France. She is currently participating in a 9-month residency with Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Agathe de Bailliencourt lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Graduated from Indonesian Art Institute, Denpasar, Bali in 2006. Apart from his two solo exhibitions: Sumiantara Painting: Fracturing Meaning (2008) and Portable Artworld (2009), Agus has been actively participating in various group exhibitions, among which are: Urban Culture at Museum Bank Indonesia (2005), Consciousness of Here and Now: Biennale Jogja VIII (2005), Manifesto at Galeri Nasional Jakarta (2009), Percakapan Masa (2010). Agus Sumiantara lives and works in Bali, Indonesia.

Also known as Kabul, left his hometown Sanur in Bali in 2002 to pursue Fine Art studies in Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. Drawing inspiration from the diverse sociopolitical issues he has seen and experienced during his stay in Yogyakarta, and employing the Balinese tradition of storytelling, Kabul composes imageries that speak of a wide range of issues - all told with a hint of satire, a handful of puns, and fully loaded with symbolic references. Since 2003 to date, Budi Agung Kuswara (Kabul) has participated in numerous group exhibitions in various galleries and art spaces in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Denpasar, Magelang, as well as in Manila, Italy, San Francisco, and United Kingdom. Kabul presented his first solo exhibition entitled i.Self in 2008. His second solo exhibition, Floating Desire, will be presented in TAKSU Singapore in October 2012. Budi Agung Kuswara (Kabul) lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Works with object and photo-based installations, artists’ books, collages and mixed media paintings. His recent collage-based paintings fuse digital prints and paint, probing postmodern concepts of originality and individual style. Gerardo Tan took his BFA degree in Painting at the University of the Philippines and his MFA degree in Painting at the State University of New York at Buffalo on a Fulbright grant. Tan has participated in many local and international exhibitions among which are the 4th Gwangju Biennale (2002), The 1st Melbourne Biennale (1999), The 44th Western New York Exhibition at the Albright-Knox Gallery (1992), The Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 13 Artists Award Exhibition (1988) and The 2nd Asian Art Show in Fukuoka Museum (1982). His works are in the collection of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Singapore Art Museum, Burchfield Art Center Buffalo NY, Osmani Memorial Hall, Dhaka and in various private collections in Asia and America. Gerardo Tan lives and works in Manila, Philippines.

Graduated from Indonesian Art Institute of Denpasar Bali. Moni understands very well that one of the strength of painting has been its ability to create the illusion of forms, with myriad possibilities of characters and plasticity. One can surmise that they are appealing for Moni because of their formal components: shape, material, and color. Apart from his Solo Exhibitions: Post Branded Objects in Semarang (2009) and The Way Of Seeing in Jakarta (2009), Moni has also participated in group exhibitions in Bali, Jakarta, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Singapore, and Italy. Moni was one of the finalists of Sovereign Asian Art Prize 2011. Ketut Moniarta lives and works in Bali, Indonesia.

Lai Ngan Corio’s career as a writer/director and her love for illuminated manuscripts, Gothic and Indian miniature paintings inform her work as an artist. She has a passion for storytelling and each picture is a complete scene. Her work is intuitive, on first sight pretty, but on closer perusal, the images are darker, unsettling and demand attention. Graduated from Univesity of Malaya in 1971 with Bachelor of Arts, Lai Ngan traveled extensively to India and to Europe, where she settled in London. From 1981-1990 she worked in the film industry prior to entering National Film and TV School, Beaconsfield, England. In 1995 she moved to the US and worked as a writer for various independent film-makers and contributed articles to the then newly-formed Tank magazine. Lai Ngan’s practice is a mixture of film, fashion, photography, literature, drawing, and printmaking. Her works are in private collections in Malaysia, the UK, and the US. Lai Ngan Corio currently lives and works in the U.K.

Upon his graduation from Technological University of the Philippines, Manila in 2007, Lynyrd Paras has mounted 8 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in various venues in Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and USA. Among his solo exhibitions are: Garbage Flowers and Foolish Words at TAKSU Singapore (2012), No One Waits For A Lonely Answer at BENCAB Museum Baguio City Philippines (2011), Some Things Are Not Meant To Be Beautiful at Ayala Museum, Makati City (2010), Boxed Noises at TAKSU KL (2008), and A Day When Everything Is Beautiful at Cultural Center of the Philippines (2007). Apart from receiving Grand Prize, 1st GSIS Museum National Painting Competition (2004), Honorable Mention, Art Association of the Philippines Annual National Art Competition (2005), and Finalist of Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards (2007); Lynyrd was also a recipient of the Sinugdanan Program Grants from National Commission for Culture and the Arts Philippines (2007), Blanc Compound Art Residency Philippines (2008), and Rimbun Dahan Art Residency Malaysia (2009). Lynyrd Paras lives and works in Manila, Philippines.

Made Kaek’s concepts and creative expressions generate from the intimate reality of his life. Kaek’s art works reflect the contemplation and comprehension of daily realities encountered by The Self and the pulsating world around it. Apparent from the title works, Kaek’s treasure of creativity is centered upon his personal narrations. He sublimates and transforms his personal life’s notes. Experiences and testimonies into a unique aesthetic-visual composition. With Kaek, the creation his private life-a process that later will be “repeated” by his viewers following their appreciation and interpretation, thus giving the works the existential significance of an entity laden with meanings. Made Kaek lives and works in Bali, Indonesia.

Employing the tradition of nineteenth century’s French Impressionist Movement, Tandya Rachmat focuses on ways in which forms are dissolved in light, and attempts to alter viewer’s perception by creating an illusion of actual reality. Similar to the Impressionists’ approach of exploring nature as subject matter, Tandya digs further into his own landscape: busy metropolitan cities with their billboard signs. Tandya Rachmat is currently undertaking his final year in Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), majoring in Fine Arts (Painting). He has been actively participating in exhibitions in various cities in Indonesia since 2008, with some of his recent shows include: 3C Painting Competition at South Korea Cultural Center Jakarta (2011), An Art Project: Artist Studio in Bandung (2011), ART-JOG 10: The Strategies of Being at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (2010), Biennale Indonesia Art Award 2010: Contemporaneity at National Gallery, Jakarta (2010). Tandya Rachmat was the Finalist of Bandung Contemporary Art Award 2010, Finalist of Biennale Indonesia Art Award 2010, and Finalist of Trienal Seni Grafis 3. Tandya Rachmat lives and works in Bandung, Indonesia.

Graduated from the Institute of Art (STSI) Bali with Bachelor in Fine Arts in 2003. Since 1997, Uuk had participated in several exhibitions in various galleries and art spaces regionally and internationally. Uuk was the finalist of Nokia Art Award in 2001, and his work was featured in the 13th Asian Art Biennale in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2008). He was also part of the group exhibition Wajah Wajah-junge Gesichter der Indonesischen Malerei at Agon e.v, Univeristat Passau, Germany (2008). Uuk Paramahita lives and works in Denpasar, Indonesia.
