Floating Desires, Kabul's latest series of work, started with his memories of growing up by the shores of Balinese beaches: the sensory experiences of playing in the water, swimming in the midst of the ocean, and the joy of surfing smoothly, dancing with the waves. Floating Desires, to Kabul, is the desire for survival, to keep himself on the surface, to resist the gravity that pulls him down. To him, not only that this experience occurs when one is underwater, this applies for anyone from any walk of life too. The desire to continue to live, the need to stay conscious, and the struggle to stay afloat are rooted in our existence.
