In the works presented in TEASE!, the artists utilize the same form of expression in painting, each artist take on their individual angles on contemporary art in modern society; and even in questioning the medium itself, the various artists allow their inquisitions take form in creating or simply questioning, through which the thought and questioning answers itself. As subversive and playful as the artworks may seem, it allows the viewers to question their perceptions of contemporary art forms.

BUDI AGUNG KUSWARA (b. 1982 in Bali), also known as Kabul, left his hometown Sanur in Bali in 2002 to pursue Fine Art studies in Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. Drawing inspiration from the diverse sociopolitical issues he has seen and experienced during his stay in Yogyakarta, and employing the Balinese tradition of storytelling, Kabul composes imageries that speak of a wide range of issues - all told with a hint of satire, a handful of puns, and fully loaded with symbolic references. IDA BAGUS PUTU PURWA (b. 1976, Bali, Indonesia) graduated from Indonesian High School of Art (STSI) Denpasar (1996 –1998). As an heir to the culture remains “ridiculed” until now, in addition to human life, Purwa grew up in the stream of modernity Sanur with tourism and economic progress as well as contact with outside culture (Western). Since childhood Purwa have followed modern education, and as an artist he realizes he is also an individual who has the freedom to live a creative life. But he still is a man of Bali, and grew from a Brahmin family from childhood that he was familiar with the grammar rules and live a life of obedience Yadnya ceremony. In living her life Purwa faced with various issues, including the tension between individual self-awareness as a “free” (in the context of the artist) and the state itself as part of a social entity in particular custom in Bali. The male body is always moving and dancing, even when silence was tat gesture body through muscular muscles always show motion. Since last few years IB works. Putu Purwa display stocky male figure that is always moving and dancing with gestures and body language characteristics. Purwa is a young artist whose origin from Sanur Bali agitated with various problems around him. KETUT MONIARTA (b. 1981 in Wanagiri, Bali) graduated from Indonesian Art Institute of Denpasar Bali. Moni understands very well that one of the strength of painting has been its ability to create the illusion of forms, with myriad possibilities of characters and plasticity. One can surmise that they are appealing for Moni because of their formal components: shape, material, and color. Apart from his Solo Exhibitions: Post Branded Objects in Semarang (2009) and The Way Of Seeing in Jakarta (2009), Moni has also participated in group exhibitions in Bali, Jakarta, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Singapore, and Italy. Moni was one of the finalists of Sovereign Asian Art Prize 2011. Ketut Moniarta lives and works in Bali, Indonesia. To me the painting is not the final product; it constantly contains new elements as it is more than just techniques and theme. Which brings me to another perspective regarding how we view a painting in different angels. And from there I begin with material of the painting: struktur, kanvas, cat, image and it’s dimensions and others. Which afterwards defines again the nature of the art . The exploration with the material itself is intended to preserve the essence of the painting. But there are times when it subvert the technicality of the painting, because when the structure is destroyed it’s 3D form will be lost. And in the end it will be an object which uses painting techniques to revive the objects of it’s 3D dimension.
