We’re delighted you could join us for the 2018 Oracle NetSuite Open Professional Squash Championships here in beautiful San Francisco. For six days, September 27 – October 2, you’ll see the world’s best squash players compete for the prestigious Oracle NetSuite Trophy. The final rounds of the tournament will once again be contested in the unique“glass cube” that we sponsor called the Oracle NetSuite SuiteSuccess Court at the South Lawn of Embarcadero Plaza on the city’s waterfront. We hope you will enjoy our special Oracle NetSuite Open atmosphere and all the matches between the very top players of the sport. Once again, we are committed to supporting the tournament’s official charity SquashDrive, a Bay Area youth enrichment programs that offers academic support, life skills and squash instruction to undeserved children. Together with famed Bay Area teaching professional Richard Elliott, I am also excited to include our new club Squash Zone as a site for some of this year’s competition. Squash Zone is a private member club in Redwood City, California featuring five international softball courts, including one three-sided glass court, member lounge, locker rooms and a classroom. The club is the home of Squash On Track, a new non-profit after-school enrichment program that helps underserved Bay Area youth through squash, academics, and community outreach. As an avid squash player for more than 20 years, I’m proud that Oracle NetSuite – the industry’s leading provider of cloud-based ERP software suites – is sponsoring this tournament and elevating the profile of squash, played by 12 million people in 150 countries, both in the Bay Area and around the world. Please enjoy the 2018 Oracle NetSuite Open! Best regards, Evan Goldberg Executive Vice President NSGBU Development

We are thrilled to offer our competing PSA pros a best-ever prize fund of more than $200,000 this year, but pro squash tournaments are about more than prize money.

John G. Nimick President

When my squash partner Melissa Winstanley and I started promoting the international game in 1992, we tried to keep in mind all the different things that made tournaments special. Together, as part of Squash Engine, we have produced 52+ major PSA glass court tournaments, many of which offered enough prize money to ensure all the top players entered. But there also have been a few that had no such assurance. Two stand out. In 2001, the US Open was scheduled to debut at Symphony Hall in Boston for September 13-16 and was thrown in to the agony and chaos of 9/11. We postponed to January, moved venues and, despite their travel experiences in September as they were diverted from their international flights and the worries their families went through then and later about travel to the USA, every single originally-entered player returned to play. We were honored. A few years later, in 2006, we staged the Canadian Classic in Toronto after a year off. The portable glass court event was starting to drift below the top level in prize money, yet Jonathon Power, his rival and World Champion Amr Shabana, Alex Gough (then a top 12 player and now PSA CEO), a little-known French player named Gregory Gaultier, and many other top players all made the trip. Before the event, we held a meeting in the hotel to thank them for playing when we knew they didn’t have to. To our surprise, they thanked us for holding the event, and many told us how touched they were that we offered that personal connection. This tournament, the Oracle NetSuite Open, has become an event the players love. While there are now many other Gold and Silver tournaments on Tour, this amazing pantheon of nearly all the best players in the world has come here this week because of the city of San Francisco, because of the amazing venue on the Embarcadero, and because of you, the enthusiastic spectators and patrons who know and love the game (as well as, I think, a little bit because we know what the special sauce should be in a Squash Engine event). Please let the players know how special it is for you and them to be here and let’s bring them back every year!

Raneem El Welily brought an end to Nicol David’s dominance atop the women’s squash rankings in September 2015, becoming the first Egyptian woman in history to be ranked World No.1 in any sport. One of the most naturally talented attackers in the Women’s game, El Welily’s arse-nal of shots is enviable and makes her almost unstoppable on her day. El Welily won her first professional title at the 2009 Heliopolis Open in Cairo and has been a critical part of the success of the

Egyptian National Team, joining her peers to win Gold in 2008, 2012 and 2016 at the World Team Championships. Recent victories in the 2017 World Championship and 2018 El Gouna International have hinted at a new-found mental strength which she’ll hope to translate into success this week. Her personal interest in jigsaw puzzles translates well for squash match tactics, while her recent marriage to PSA men’s star Tarek Momen ensures good company as the pair travel the PSA World Tour together.

A serious achilles injury in 2014 appeared to have brought Joelle King’s career to a premature end but the powerful Kiwi has slowly battled her way back to the top of the world rankings, producing the best squash of her career in the process. One of the most relaxed characters on the Women’s Tour, King’s lengthy journey back to full fitness climaxed last season when she won two Gold medals at the

Commonwealth Games and reached her first major tournament final at the 2018 Windy City Open. The 29-year-old relocated to England to work with new coach Hadrian Stiff and with a full season, and an intense summer’s preparation, under her belt, she’ll be aiming to continue her rise this season. Joelle married Ryan Shuttle in 2012 and enjoys interior design and time with her family and her dogs.

Laura Massaro has become one of England’s greatest-ever female players since beginning her glittering career in 2000. Massaro has gone from strengthto-strength throughout her career, becoming the first Englishwoman in 20 years to win the British Open in 2013 before going on to add the 2013 World Championship to her trophy collection. Despite being one of the elder players now in the Top 10, she remains a title contender in any draw as her second victory at the British Open in 2017 demonstrates.

Recently voted by squash fans as the greatest female player of all time, Nicol David is one of the most decorated athletes in squash history. The Malaysian spent an incredible nine consecutive years atop the Women’s World Rankings from 2006-2015, winning 80 major titles including an unprecedented eight World Championships. One of the most naturally gifted athletes on the Women’s Tour, David boasts incredible speed and athleticism on court which enable her to retrieve almost everything and suffocate opponents on court. After what for her was a relatively middling 2017/18 season, she’ll be hoping to bring her recent Asian

Games Gold Medal winning form into this year’s Oracle NetSuite Open. While Nicol is a celebrity at home and is reputed to have the third highest “Q“ score of any Malaysian, she is a warm, personal and caring ambassador for the game anywhere she goes. She has won PSA Player of the Year honors seven times and was recognized as the 2017 Women’s Leadership honoree at the Tournament of Champions one year ago. Amongst other recognitions, her homeland bestowed on her the traditional Malay honorific title Datuk and Commander of the Order of Meritorious Service honors in 2017.
