EN - Starting in 2008 with “Sit around the world”, we brought our chairs around the world to present the beauty of diversity through our design. Milan, London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and Cape Town are just a few of the cities we had the pleasure of experiencing more closely, while gaining inspiration and observations.

TA K U M I [CHAIR] Design: Studio Dessì [ 2 0 24 ]

IT - Circolarità e minimalismo sono i principi che Takumi prende in prestito dall’artigianato giapponese, uniti a dettagli che rimandano a epoche passate. I tubi di acciaio della struttura sembrano concatenarsi come nelle illusioni ottiche di Escher e accolgono delle morbidissime parti imbottite che possono essere smontate e rinnovate. EN - Circularity and minimalism are the underlying tenets that Takumi borrows from Japanese craftsmanship, accompanied by details that hark back to bygone eras. The steel tubes of the structure seem to interconnect in a way similar to Escher’s optical illusions as they accommodate soft upholstered elements that can be disassembled and restyled.

EN - Italian-British Designer, he was born in Genoa in 1973. Following a consistent experience in Antonio Citterio’s office in Milan he opens his first studio in 2006. After a few years he’s co-founder and Design Partner of Metrica in Milan. In 2019, he’s back as an independent Industrial Designer. He worked and collaborated with many companies in Italy and abroad, designing furniture for the residential, contract and office market. His main objective is to merge a technical — industrial language with a more decorative one with the aim to design essential, functional and expressive objects and furniture. In 2014 he’s been awarded with the Compasso d’Oro.

IT - Designer Italo-Britannico, nasce a Genova nel 1973. Dopo una lunga esperienza nello studio di Antonio Citterio a Milano, apre il suo primo studio di progettazione nel 2006. IT - Qual è l’origine del nome del prodotto?

EN - What is the origin of the product name?

Where do you come from?

“Versable” è l’acronimo di “Versatile table” (tavolo versatile). L’idea era di trasmettere un concetto di versatilità semplice e funzionale, particolarmente adatta per lo spazio ufficio contemporaneo, che fosse la caratteristica principale del progetto.

Sono nato a Genova da madre inglese e padre italiano. Mi sono trasferito a Milano intorno ai 18 anni per studiare design e da allora sono rimasto qui. Mi sento molto legato a entrambe le culture, anche se sono molto diverse tra loro.

“Versable” is an acronym for “versatile table.” The idea was to convey a sense of easy versatility, designed for contemporary office spaces as the product’s main feature.

I was born in Genoa to an English mother and an Italian father. I moved to Milan around the age of 18 to study design and have stayed here ever since. I’m deeply connected to both cultures, though they are quite different from one another.

Ricordi qualche aneddoto legato al progetto?

Come descriveresti il tuo stile?

Beh, non so se possa essere considerato un vero e proprio aneddoto, ma la prima fase di sviluppo del prodotto si è svolta in piena pandemia. Questo ha reso le revisioni dei progetti diverse dal solito, con un approccio nuovo e inaspettato. Il secondo aggiornamento, più recente, è invece avvenuto in tempi più “normali”.

Non credo di avere uno stile preciso. Piuttosto, ho un approccio che mi porta a fare il meglio per l’azienda con cui lavoro, utilizzando la giusta quantità di materiali e cercando di inserire un tocco tecnico nel processo. Non mi considero una persona “decorativa”.

I’m not sure if this qualifies as an anecdote, but the initial development phase happened right in the middle of the pandemic, so project reviews were conducted in a new and unexpected way. The more recent update took place in more “normal” times.

Quali sono le tue fonti di ispirazione?

Chi ti ha ispirato durante il processo creativo?

La buona architettura, i paesaggi mozzafiato, la buona musica e due maestri a cui penso sempre quando ho una matita in mano: Richard Sapper e Dieter Rams, per motivi diversi.

Sono un grande fan del lavoro di Richard Sapper. Anche se il suo risultato sarebbe stato probabilmente più geniale del mio, rimane uno dei miei principali riferimenti, nonostante non abbia disegnato molti mobili. È il suo linguaggio preciso che mi affascina.

Do you remember any anecdotes related to the project?

How would you describe your style? I wouldn’t say I have a specific style. I have an approach that pushes me to deliver the best results for the company I’m working with. I try to use materials efficiently and infuse a bit of technical language into the process. I certainly don’t consider myself to be decorative.

Who inspired you during the creative process? I’m a big fan of Richard Sapper’s work. While his designs would undoubtedly be more ingenious than mine, he remains a key reference for me, despite not having designed much furniture. It’s his precise design language that really draws me in.

What are your sources of inspiration? Good architecture, breathtaking landscapes, great music, and two masters I always think of when I pick up a pencil: Richard Sapper and Dieter Rams, each for different reasons. What are your passions?

Quali sono le tue passioni?

My three fast-growing kids! Also: tennis and running. Whenever I have the time, I love going back to the Genoese seaside. I also enjoy reading, though time is often in short supply!

Claus Breinholt was born in a small town in rural western Denmark. As the son of a furniture dealer with a preference for Danish design, he grew up surrounded by classic pieces by Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Ole Wanscher. During his studies in Graphic Design, Breinholt soon found that his passion laid in designing furniture. Already during his second semester studying furniture design at the School of Design at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen

he won a scholarship for his innovative approach to the design process. In 2003 he opened his studio based in Copenaghen, where he operates in the fields of industrial design and furnishing design for the contract and home sectors. He has won numerous national and international awards including FORBO Design Competition and the Danish Woodworking and Furniture Industries Competition. His products were exhibited from 2000 to 2006 at the Scandinavian Furniture

Fair in Copenhagen, in 2001 at the Satellite Show in Milan, in 2001 and 2003 at the International Furniture Fair in Stockholm and at Interzum in Cologne, in conjunction with Reholz GmBH.

Back in the 1980s, the Studio was one of the first in Italy to engage in business relationships abroad, collaborating with prestigious companies in North America, Europe and Asia. In 2009, with the entry of the young Francesco Favaretto, the activities of the Studio

have extended even further and now cover various areas of design, from industrial design to communication, and from tangible to digital matter. He is firmly convinced that it is only by doing this that it is possible to test the qualities of his products with his own body, to assess their durability and thus make

certain that the results live up to expectations. Thomas’s role models include Charles and Ray Eames, whose furniture design work was always focused on ergonomics and comfort, accommodating the human body. Over the years Thomas Pedersen has won a number of awards for his designs. He is best known for his StingRay chair, which he designed as his graduation project in Aarhus.

Andreas Ostwald

After an apprenticeship as a ceramic modeller and having studied Industrial Design in Kiel, in 1996 he started up his own business, giving life to Ostwalddesign studio. From 1996 to 2006 he taught design at the “Muthesius Hochschule” of Kiel, and since 2005 he is professor at the HFK University of Bremen. In his of product and interior design research, Ostwald is always looking for complete uniqueness, leading to the creation

of exclusive products and spaces. Core of his philosophy is the ambition for aesthetic perfection, attainable only through absolute proportions. To Ostwald, an appealing design must be in harmonious relationship not only with its details, but also with the environment: to design products being respectful of man and the environment means researching innovative interaction with the new technological and physical possibilities.

Quaglio Simonelli is the creation of two dynamic talents Andrea Quaglio and Manuela Simonelli , both graduates of the Università del Progetto, in Reggio Emilia. Their studio is based in Paris. After their debut and and their two years collaboration with Philippe Starck, they founded their own design studio dedicated to provide design services to several sectors of the marketplace, beliving that diversity is a source of creative richness. They design technology products, create furniture

and decorative objects, conceive the visual identity and product design for beauty brands, alternating industrial logic and artisanal approach. The result of the meeting between two complementary sensibilities has been nourished by their history, by their creative gaze they direct on the world that surrounds them and by the mutation they love to induce on it. In this way, they design objects that look familiar, yet contaminated with unexpected and

poetic elements. Marc Sadler is a designer and citizen of the world. Born in Austria, he has lived and worked in France, the United States, Asia and Italy. He currently lives in Milan, working as a consultant for companies in the fields of home furnishings, household appliances, lighting and sports. Constant experimentation with plastics, inspired by a passion for challenges and a strong curiosity, has always been at the centre of his research. At the beginning of the seventies, he perfect the

first ski-boot in thermo plastic material completely recyclable, subsequently commercialised by the Italian firm Caber (later known as Lotto). Working in this sector, provided the experience to enable him to bring innovation to more traditional areas where is set a concept of design as pure aesthetic shape. Awarded 4 times with the Compasso d’Oro ADI (Industrial Design association) for the lamps Drop (Flos, 1994), Tite and Mite (Foscarini, 2001), the bookshelf Big(Caimi Brevetti, 2008) and

the gelato display case Bellevue with Panorama technology (IFI, 2014), his work has won many international design awards over the years. Despite his reputation as a technical designer, Marc Sadler has a strong feeling for painting and drawing, finding it so emotionally absorbing as to consider it his real passion.

Marcello Ziliani

Marcello Ziliani was born in Brescia in 1963 under the sign of Pisces. In 1988 he graduated in architecture at Politecnico di Milano with Achille Castiglioni as a speaker. After three years abroad, he returned to Italy and devoted himself mainly to developing projects for the design of furniture, complement, lighting, bathroom, office, objects and early childhood, working in addition to exhibitions, theatrical choreography, art direction, design

coordination, graphics and communication. He doesn’t like the absolutism and the indestructible certainties, he loves to look at things with always different eyes to be in tune with them, he prefers to speak softly and, above all, listen. He believes that any project is, after all, a desire, a hope of flight. He believes that, despite the great run you can do waving your arms uselessly, sooner or later you can have your ten meters of gliding.

Like all the designers, more or less, he put aside the minimum necessary equipment of prizes and awards, he has given lectures, workshops, he served on juries and so on. Since 2011 he’s a professor of product design at the University of San Marino / IUAV.

Born in Russia, Oleg Pugachev has called Berlin his home for more than half of his life. Here he graduated from the Weissensee School of Art and Design in 2013. Balancing of means and ends in terms of functionality, technology and aesthetics, a quest for (never banal) simplicity and coherence reflecting the complexity of the

Fabrizio Batoni: sensitive, curious, careful, always ready to undertake new challenges. Its personal and professional life mirrors its way to be. “Always on”, that is his motto, to be always turned on, always tuned in for succeeding in understanding and to identifing ideas and needs of who is around. It graduates in architecture in the Florence University, and after various experiences in the world of design and architecture, in 1997 he opens his study in Colle di Val d’Elsa,

city of the crystal and native country of Arnolfo Di Cambio, among the splendid Chianti hills. He begins the first important collaborations in the world of design and the first jobs of architecture. Today, after having acquired experience and methodology during the years, different competences, that space from the design of the product, to the interior up to the architecture, find space in his projects. The hauling motor of its activity is the desire to compare and continually risk, always

holding an eye aimed to the demands of the man and the environment that surrounds him. He has designed for Blumarine, Flou, Brandoni, Domitalia, Infiniti by Omp group and Zazzeri.

Philippe Tabet is a product designer from Versailles (France), based in Milan (Italy). He created in 2013 his own studio, his multidisciplinary practice offers a wide range of services , ranging from furniture to electronic design. In 2014 Tabet took part to Infiniti De-Contest and won with its project “Ruelle”, that today is one of the main products of our Chairs Collection. “Design for me is an ensemble of elements. When I was a kid, I used to draw characters, objects, shapes, a bit like I do

today. The difference, however, is that when I draw an object today, I think immediately to its material, to its production process or to its function. For example two simple wood layers glued together give birth to an object in volume: this is also the starting point of the Ruelle chair.” My challenge in this case has been to make the union of these two materials as much harmonious as possible, as the union between technique and drawing. Klaus Nolting

Born in Switzerland in 1964, Klaus Nolting studied industrial design at Kiel University in Germany. Having obtained his degree in 1992, he began working for various architecture and design firms until, in 2006, he founded ON3D, a firm that specialises in planning and designing products for modern living, developing new concepts and design products with clean, soft lines. Since 2009 he has lectured on Theory of Design, Product Technology and Concept at Germany’s Mainz

University. Since 2010 he has also been a member of the Architectural Association of Hamburg. Numerous awards have been presented for the work done by Klaus Nolting, from “Light of the future ” in 2001, to the Hamburger Designpreis, as well as the iF product design award, which he won in both 2011 and 2014.

Ha lavorato con diverse aziende dell’arredamento in Italia e all’estero lavorando su progetti destinati al mercato residenziale, contract e ufficio. Condensa il linguaggio

tecnico-industriale e quello decorativo con equilibrio, con l’obbiettivo di progettare oggetti e arredi essenziali, funzionali ed espressivi. Svolge da diversi anni attività di insegnamento presso la Scuola Politecnica di Design. Nel 2014 è stato premiato con il premio Compasso d’Oro.

Fiorenzo Dorigo was born in the province of Treviso in 1953. Since 1975, while attending art studies, he has collaborated with companies in the furniture sector, taking care of their design and image. Since 1977 he has been attending the Signomega studio and joins Bruno Maria Fracarossi in the “total design” experience of the “Seabuggy” projects (selected for the Compasso d’Oro in 1979) and “Quartz” (kitchen covered in tempered glass: 1982). Enrolled in ADI, IDD (Italian

Institute for Design and Disability) and freelance since 1987, he gained significant experience in the field of ecological, playful, pedagogical design; of teaching and systems and types in the furnishing contest for the home, appliances, office, community, cinema and theater, in Europe, the United States, the Far East. In 2002 and 2003 he held seminars on applied design at the University of Padua at the Institute for the Wood Industry. He currently designs for companies in the home,

office and community design sector. He works in Italy in his own studio in Conegliano Veneto.

Kai Stania was born 1965 in Salzburg and starts his Architecture studies 1987 on the Technical University of Vienna. Parallel to his architecture studies he starts 1990 at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna his studies of industrial design. Already 1993 he moves to London to take project leadership in Ron Arad Studio. 1996 he finishes his architecture studies with distinction

and becomes Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Vienna. After one year working as an Architect he founds his office „kai stania I product design“ and works for design brands like Team7, Bene, Rolf Benz, Durlet and fashion accessories for brands like Hugo Boss, Cerruti, Ungaro, Nina Ricci and Cacharel. Innovation is fully expressed through the design and the concept of the chair: for the first time, a monobloc chair in recycled plastic with an upholstered internal shell is presented. Cello The cellos are a critical part of orchestral music; all symphonic works involve the cello section, and many pieces require cello soli or solos. Jit Design: Gregorio Facco Jit is available with two different types of base: with three legs on the ground, with fixed or adjustable feet in three heights, or with a pyramid base, in bar or kitchen height and with an optional reclining top mechanism; in this version, horizontal “nesting” stacking is possible.

The Jit collection was created with simple yet functional shapes in mind. A generously sized steel tube frame is interpenetrated with an additional curved circular section, which seems to rest gently on itself.

Waffle Design: Favaretto&Partners The Waffle collection, from the outside, presents a cubic shape and regular, precise geometric forms. Outdoor finishes / Finiture Outdoor Ruelle In the small alleyways of the small French country villages (the so-called “ruelles”) is typical having a seat on the traditional bistrot and brasserie chairs, which have been revisited by Philippe Tabet in a contemporary way. Ruelle won the fourth edition of the design Contest of Infiniti. It is a chair with a die-cast alluminium structure and extruded alluminium legs. Thanks to the coloured polypropylene backrest and to the perforated seat, Ruelle outdoor is water-resistant and can be used for bars and restaurants with an outdoor patio. Nei piccoli vicoli dei paesini francesi di campagna (“ruelle”, appunto) è tipico sedersi nelle classiche sedie da bistrot e brasserie, che Philippe Tabet ha rielaborato in chiave contemporanea. Ruelle ha vinto la quarta edizione del Contest di design di Infiniti. Ruelle è una sedia con una struttura in alluminio pressofuso, e gambe in alluminio estruso. Grazie allo schienale in polipropilene colorato e alla seduta forata, Ruelle outdoor non teme la pioggia e può essere utilizzata come seduta da bar e bistrò con dehors all’aperto.

With this chair, infiniti gives a new, nordic and minimal, direction to the outdoor furniture, overcoming the common Mediterraneaninspired dehors concept. Úti is a chair with a structure manufactured in painted steel rod, available with or without arms. The back and the seat are perforated, but for a greater comfort an outdoor fabric removable seat panel is available. The table tops come in different geometric shapes and materials, making it perfect in every situation. Outdoor finishes / Finiture Outdoor Sys Sys was born as a sofa full of configurations, which gives the possibility of creating modular systems, that fit well in contexts such as waiting rooms, work spaces, museums, restaurants, schools, shops and meeting and sharing areas. Thanks to an extremely quick and intuitive fastening system, it is possible to disassemble, move and reconfigure your sofa, according to the needs of that moment. Sys is made up of a painted steel frame, which creates an housing for the modules to be inserted. Sys nasce come un divano ricco di configurazioni, che dà la possibilità di creare sistemi modulari che ben si inseriscono in contesti quali sale d’attesa, spazi di lavoro, musei, ristoranti, scuole, negozi e aree di incontro e condivisione. Grazie a un sistema di aggancio di moduli estremamente veloce e intuitivo, è possibile smontare, spostare e riconfigurare il proprio divano in base alle esigenze del momento. Sys è formato da un telaio in tubo di acciaio verniciato, che crea un alloggio per i moduli da inserire.

Demoiselle stands on four matt painted steel legs. The choice of outdoor upholstery makes this sofa a product suitable for any context. I designer Quaglio Simonelli propongono un elegantissimo divanetto dalle geometrie morbide, con struttura rivestita con doppia tappezzeria tono su tono legate da un cinturino di cuoio elegantissimo. Comfort assicurato grazie ad una seduta profonda e da ampio cuscino. Poltroncina con struttura in poliuretano espanso, seduta e cuscino in poliuretano schiumato a freddo. The Jit table collection was created with simple yet functional shapes in mind. A generously sized steel tube frame is interpenetrated with an additional curved section, which seems to rest gently on itself. Jit is available with two different types of bases: with three legs on the ground, with fixed or adjustable feet in three heights, or with a pyramid base, in bar or kitchen height and with an optional folding mechanism; in this version, horizontal “nesting” stacking is possible. La collezione di tavoli Jit è stata creata avendo in mente forme semplici, ma funzionali. Un telaio in tubo di acciaio, dalle dimensioni generose, si compenetra con un’ulteriore sezione circolare incurvata, che sembra appoggiarsi delicatamente su stessa. Jit è disponibile con due diversi tipi di base: a tre razze a terra, con piedini fissi o regolabili in tre altezze, o a piramide, in altezza bar o cucina e con meccanismo reclinabile del top a richiesta; in questa versione, infatti, è possibile l’impilaggio orizzontale.

Corda Marina

Nautical rope UV Stabilized is based on a PET polymer able to reduce the polymer chain deterioration caused by UV rays. UV radiations damage the bonds of standard PET weakening its filaments. This yarn absorbs and dissipates UV rays thus limiting polymer deterioration.Nautical rope is a high-performance flame retardant (FR) polyester whose FR properties are incorporated into the polymer; no posttreatment is needed, and no deterioration occurs during maintenance treatments.

La corda nautica stabilizzata UV è basata su un polimero PET in grado di ridurre il deterioramento della catena polimerica causato dai raggi UV. Le radiazioni UV danneggiano i legami del PET standard indebolendone i filamenti. Questo filato assorbe i raggi UV limitandone così il deterioramento. La corda nautica è di poliestere ignifugo (FR) ad alte prestazioni, le cui proprietà sono incorporate nel polimero; non è necessario quindi alcun post-trattamento e non si verifica alcun deterioramento durante i trattamenti di mantenimento.
