Beauty Mind

Our beauty and our mind are interconnected. In this session, we highlight our philosophy why at Peace & Pure, besides focusing on creating high-performance skincare products, we also focus on emotional well-being. We first address the mind-skin connection, then introduce you to the topics of self-love, affirmations, self-reliance, positive thinking, the benefits of journaling and the impact of positive thinking.

peace & pure

The Mind-Skin Connection As the largest organ of the body, the skin is controlled by our immune and nervous systems. The mind-skin connection has been discovered and well researched. A research article called Brain-Skin Connection: Stress, Inflammation and Skin Aging, published by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information, explains that our brain and skin communicate with each other and that when we're under stress, both release stress hormones that can negatively impact the skin. This can lead to a vicious cycle of stress-induced inflammation. Stress also negatively impacts the skin's ability to retain water, which can lead to dehydration and wrinkle formation, while chronic stress can lead to premature cellular ageing. Another symptom of stress is the poor quality of sleep, resulting in increased signs of ageing such as fine lines, uneven pigmentation, reduced elasticity and dull skin. This is the reason at Peace & Pure, besides focusing on creating high-performance skincare products, we also focus on emotional well-being. We believe that your skin reflects your inner world and that how you feel inside reflects everything you have on the outside. Skincare more than skin deep is not only a slogan. It is really true for us. Of course, many factors come into play when it comes to improving our emotional well-being, but at Peace and Pure we firmly believe that our skincare routine plays a vital role. When we mindfully care for ourselves on a daily basis, we feel nurtured and content. In turn, our stress levels come down, and this shows in happier, healthier skin. When our skin is glowing and healthy, we feel more satisfied as a result – the two are a positive, mutually reinforcing circle.'

"When our skin is glowing and healthy, we feel happier as a result – the two are a positive, mutually reinforcing circle."

Self-Love

WHAT IS SELF-LOVE?

With the pandemic and lockdowns, more than ever people are starting to shift their focus on self-care and self-love. Many have realized that love is not just an interpersonal concept, feeling or behaviour, but an intrapersonal process as well. We need love from ourselves as much, and perhaps more than, we do from others. Self-love is not selfish or being indulgent towards oneself, on the contrary, it requires one to be brave and make consistent efforts. To see yourself completely as you are, including your strengths and weaknesses, your bright sides and your shadows. All while accepting yourself fully with compassion and strive to grow to the best version of yourself lovingly. It is an intentional practice that requires courage and consistency, but the rewards are more than words can describe. In the following session we break down self-love into 8 areas/segments as an inspiration for you to focus on, so you can cultivate each area in your own time. We explore the importance of affirmations and the 5 pillars of resilience.

8 SEGMENTS OF SELF LOVE

Self Awareness:

Self Esteem:

Self-Expression:

Self Acceptance:

Self-Growth: is the process by which a person recognizes themselves and continually

Self-Compassion:

maturity, success and happiness.

Self-Care: describes a conscious act one takes in order to promote their own physical, mental, and emotional health. Self Kindness: is extending compassion to one's self in instances of perceived inadequacy, failure, or general suffering.

Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes. You might consider affirmations to be unrealistic "wishful thinking." But try looking at positive affirmations this way: many of us do repetitive exercises to improve our physical health, and affirmations are like exercises for our mind and outlook. These positive mental repetitions can reprogram our thinking patterns so that, over time, we begin to think – and act – differently.

15 SELF-LOVE AFFIRMATIONS

1. I am love. 2. I radiate love. 3. My love is infinite. 4. I am surrounded by love. 5. I am here to experience love. 6. I love myself unconditionally. 7. Love is all around me. 8. Love is always flowing to me. 9. My heart is open to giving and receiving love. 10. I love myself deeply and fully. 11. My love is unconditional. 12. I have all the love inside me that I need. 13. My own love is the best kind of love. 14. Love is accessible to me at any time. 15. Love is unlimited.

Poems we love TRUE BEAUTY

True beauty is in the way she laughs. True beauty is in her eyes. True beauty is how she acts. True beauty is inside. True beauty is unseen. True beauty is only felt. True beauty is not mean. True beauty is herself. True beauty can't be cruel. True beauty is bare. True beauty is within you. True beauty is always there. True beauty means true love. True beauty can't be baked up. True beauty is the flight of a dove. True beauty has no flaws. For True beauty is all that matters after all. SUN

Self-Resilience Resilience is our ability to bounce back from the stresses of life. It's not about avoiding the stress, but learning to thrive within the stress. Below we introduce the 5 pillars of resilience developed by bouncebackproject.org. Using the five pillars of resilience is a way to reframe our thinking so that we can see ourselves and the world around us in new ways. We can experience the positive benefits that are a part of living our lives from a place of "wholeness."

"Resilience is our ability to yield towards life's challenges, flow with them while being able to bounce back to a better position to enjoy life in a more positive way. "

THE 5 PILLARS OF RESILIENCE

Self Awareness Self Awareness is having a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions. Self Awareness allows you to understand other people, how they perceive you, your attitude and your responses to them in the moment.

Mindfulness Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.

Self Care Self-care is unique for each person and can be understood in many different ways. In its simplest form, the term refers to our ability as human beings to function effectively in the world while meeting the multiple challenges of daily life with a sense of energy, vitality, and confidence. Self-care is initiated and maintained by us as individuals — it requires our active engagement.

Positive Relationships Positive Relationships are the people who support and care for us — and we care for them. One of the most profound experiences we can have in our lives is the connection we have with other human beings. By building positive relationships with others, we will be happier and more fulfilled and feel more supported, supportive, and connected. Positive and supportive relationships will help us to feel healthier, happier, and more satisfied with our lives.

Purpose Purpose is a recognition that we belong to and serve something bigger than ourselves. Our purpose helps to shape the mindset and attitude we have toward others and the events we experience. We can find purpose in our faith, family, a political party, being green, or being a part of an organization like the Boy Scouts.

By strengthening each of the pillars: 1. We are actively becoming more self-aware by living mindfully and giving ourselves love and care 2. We are building positive relationships 3. We are cultivating our sense of purpose 4. We are becoming more resilient towards life's challenges and becoming more fearless 5. We feel more empowered and happier

The Magic of Journaling At Peace and Pure, we believe Journaling is a good habit to cultivate mindfulness. In the next section, we explore the benefits of this habit and our own downloadable Self care journal.

There are many benefits of keeping a journal, this includes: Reduces Stress Journaling is an incredible stress management tool, a good-for-you habit that lessens the impact of physical stressors on your health. Improves Immune Function Expressive writing can strengthen your immunity and decrease your risk of illness. Keeps Memory Sharp Journaling helps keep your brainstrong. Not only does it boost memory and comprehension, but it also increases working memory capacity. Boosts Mood Want more sunshine in your life? Try journaling. A unique social and behavioural outcome of journaling is it can improve your mood and give you a greater sense of overall emotional well-being and happiness. Our Peace and Pure tip: Write out 5 things you achieved and 5 things you are grateful for per day. Strengthens Emotional Functions Journaling evokes mindfulness and helps us remain present while keeping perspective. Journaling presents an opportunity for emotional catharsis and helps the brain regulate emotions.

We have created our own FREE Self-Care Journal pages, which includes a place to align your goals and a self-care menu. Scan the QR code below to download.

Positivity Our human brains are hardwired to detect danger as the effect of evolution, that being all-time positive is a gift not quite natural for many of us. But we also firmly believe that you can rewire your brain, and train yourselves to become more and more positive every day.

Below we want to share some practical tips on how to become more positive. 1. Beauty Rituals

At Peace & Pure, we believe in the power of rituals. Shifting your action-focused daily routines into uplifting experiences of rituals has tremendous benefits for your emotional and physical well-being in the long term. As for beauty, turning your skincare routine into a beauty ritual will lead you to see improvements in your beauty inside and out. In this session, we share our favourite rituals for self-care, happiness, and inner peace. And we hope they offer some inspiration for your daily routine.

Poems we love

MAGIC OF LOVE "Let the heart dwell in the fountain of love where love may continuously flow into the abyss of emptiness deep within the soul.

Let the flow touch the numb lips and perforate within where frost resides let the magic of love subsist eternally..."

Let the fountain of love embrace the quivering body to warm it like a fur and wash away the fears.

Jazlle D. H.

13 Self-care Rituals Mindfulness and meditation is a powerful tool to resolve stress, it teaches us how to live in the present moment and disconnect from stressors. Focus on your breathing and its sensation, sit behind your thoughts and emotions, and witness them come and go. Practising gratitude is a wonderful habit that you can practice also as part of your morning and evening routine, or whenever and wherever throughout the day. Positive thinking and expressions of gratitude have been proven to strongly and consistently correlate to greater happiness in life. Journaling helps us review the things that help us grow, learn, build confidence, gain clarity and understanding, and build a healthy relationship with all of our 'selves' - past, present and future. Affirmations help your mood and perspective start to lift in a matter of days. Music does much more than comfort and relaxes us. It has the power to help with pain management. Connect with Nature The Japanese have a very special word for health-enhancing walks in nature: 'shinrin-yoku', meaning 'forest bathing'. A walk amongst the fields and trees (described by scientists as a 'nature pill') reduces the stress hormone cortisol, which is involved in all sorts of destructive ailments such as high blood pressure, anxiety, immune system malfunction, and tissue. Connecting with friends, family, and your community Studies have shown that even a brief chat with a stranger or server can enhance feelings of connectedness and well-being.

Committing to a skincare routine Our daily self-care routines are closely intertwined with our self-esteem. Pampering your skin and caring for your body tells your brain: "I'm worth it." - and you are. Bathing is an ancient ritualistic process for cleansing, not just the body but the mind. Adding candlelight, tea, a glass of wine, or your favourite book can make it extremely pleasurable. Massage with aromatherapy oils, which is a small percentage of essential oils mixed with plant oils. Essential oils are great for your skin and your mind too. Having nourishing foods Feeding your body the nutrients it needs is one of the most important forms of self-care, and your skin will thank you prolifically for it too. Taking your favourite forms of exercise This is one we all know, and can't deny. Getting more oxygen pumping into your body creates the release of chemicals that make us feel good, promote neural growth, reduce inflammation, get our skin glowing, and sharpen our thinking and memory systems. Giving yourself treats and rewards rewarding yourself is good for your mind. This action positively reinforces the feelings for self-appreciation and self-love. Make giving yourself rewards a habit once you feel achieved your goals or just a treat for no reason.

The 7 Types of Rest

SUN

DAY

Have you ever tried to fix an ongoing lack of energy by getting more sleep — only to do so and still feel exhausted? If that's you, here's the secret: Sleep and rest are not the same thing, although many of us incorrectly confuse the two. We go through life thinking we've rested because we have gotten enough sleep — but in reality we are missing out on the other types of rest we need. The result is a culture of high-achieving, high-producing, chronically tired and chronically burned-out individuals. We're suffering from a rest deficit because we don't understand the true power of rest. Rest should equal restoration in seven key areas of your life."

MOON

NIGHT

In the below post we summarised the 7 Types of rest from an article on ideas.ted.com by Saundra Dalton-Smith MD. We hope this little summary provides some inspiration for your understanding of rests so that we could all feel a bit more rested, therefore more energized, and happier.

1. Physical rest - either passive form (sleep/nap) or active form (yoga/streches/massage). 2. Mental rest - schedule short breaks throughout your working day. Remind yourself to slow down. 3. Sensory rest - from screens, noises, multiple conversations, etc all sensory over-stimulations. 4. Creative rest - enjoy the arts. Display images you love and work of art that speak to you around you. 5. Emotional rest - have time and space to freely express your feelings and cut back on people pleasing. 6. Social rest - surround yourself with positive and supportive people - like Peace & Pure :) 7. Spiritual rest - connect beyond the physical and mental and feel a deep sense of belonging, love, acceptance and purpose, by prayer, meditation, and serving community.

Morning and Evening Skincare Routine

How we present ourselves to the world isn't necessarily about aesthetics. It's about holistic self-care. Whether you're new to skincare or an old hand, the best advice is usually the simplest. Morning: Try a gentle cream cleanser and wipe clean with a damp cotton cloth or flannel. We love flower waters like rose or chamomile flower water for toners, which help with gentle hydration and softening the skin. For moisturizing, apply with a botanical oil facial serum that is boosted with active ingredients, like our Timeless Elixir, replenish the moisture barrier, and protect your skin throughout the day; optionally, add your favourite moisturizer to seal in all the goodness. Then the last step is to apply sunscreen on top, even when it's a cloudy day, and you are just staying indoors. Evening: This routine can be more indulgent than your morning routine. Start by cleansing your face with an oil-based facial cleanser, balm or oil, to melt away all makeup and your sunscreen. Then use a cream cleanser as the second step to remove any remaining residues. Clean your face with pure cotton flannel or cloth for a thorough clean and gentle exfoliation. Follow with a toner or facial essence. Optionally, you can add a hydrating facial spritz spray to prepare it for the next moisturizing step. Use a facial serum, either water or oil-based. We prefer oil-based serums with active ingredients, like our Timeless Elixir Facial Serum, as we believe it has a higher penetrative ability into the skin's layers. Gently massage the serum into the skin until it's fully absorbed. For maximum stimulation and absorption, use a guasha or roller after you apply your facial oil. Finish with your favourite moisturizer to seal in all the nutrients. For extra care, apply a facemask once or twice a week before your daily skincare routine, depending on how your skin feels. Also use AHA/BHA based exfoliant products to exfoliate your skin, give your skin an extra glow.
