HISTORY In 1999 Alessio Schiavon coins a word and an icon to define his online art gallery and street project: Untho. The word untho means <urban trash optimized> and the untho icon is the simplification of the faces he paints. For years the project grew up in the worldwide streets as free art expression and in 2005 has been advanced into a clothing line. The aim is to provoke who suffers the city rhytms, to make the people think about their lifestyle Untho is never tired.

Nel 1999 Alessio Schiavon conia una parola ed un icona per definire la sua galleria d’arte online e il suo progetto artistico: Untho La parola Untho significa <urban trash optimized> mentre l’icona Untho nasce dalla semplificazione delle faccie che dipinge. Per anni il progetto è cresciuo nelle strade di tutto il mondo come libera espressione artistica. Nel 2005 Untho è diventato una linea di abbigliamento. L’obiettivo è provocare chi subisce i ritmi della città, l’obiettico è quelo di fare riflettere le persone sul loro stile di vita. Untho non è mai stanco.

URBAN TRASH OPTIMIZED

THE ORIGINS OF THE WORD UNTHO In ‘99 Alessio Schiavon created a word and an icon to define his online art gallery and street project: UNTHO. At the beginning the idea was based on the making of a web site able to contain all his artworks. In all the paintings the attention of Alessio is focused on the faces of the people living in the city. He uses cartboards and pieces of wood taken from the street to make his artworks. URBAN TRASH OPTIMIZED Untho is made by the first and the last letter of UrbaN TrasH Optimazed. Urban represents the city. Trash represents the materials used by Alessio to create his works. Optimized refers to the internet language used for the images ready to be published in the web .

Nel 1999 Alessio Schiavon crea una parola per definire la sua galleria d’arte online: UNTHO. L’idea iniziale era quella di realizzare un sito in grado di contenere i suoi quadri. Nelle sue opere Alessio focalizza l’attenzione sui volti e sulle espressioni della gente che vive in citta e usa pezzi di cartone o di legno presi dalla strada come base per realizzare i suoi lavori. Da qui nasce il termine “Spazzatura Urbana Ottimizzata” che tradotto in Inglese diventa: URBAN TRASH OPTIMIZED. La parola UNTHO è formata dalla prima e ultima lettera delle parole “UrbaN” - “TrasH” - “ Optimized” “Urban” rappresenta la citta. “Trash” spazzatura ovvero gli elementi presi dalla strada. “Optimized” si riferisce alle immagini preparate per essere pubblicate in Internet: ottimizzate.

THE ORIGINS OF THE UNTHO ICON The Untho face comes from the Alessio paintings. He made it without particular signs: only straight and simple lines. His idea was to design an icon which everyone could identify himself with. The Untho position comes from the will to spread a message from the top: like a teacher at the desk. Untho is a provocative icon: Untho is never tired, Untho is faster than you, Untho is richer than you. The goal is to provoke a reaction, to make the people think about their lifestyle.

Il volto di Untho nasce dalle faccie dipinte nei quadri di Alessio. La caratteristica comune è che sono composte da linee semplici e dritte. La sua idea era quella di disegnare un icona nella quale tutti potessero identificarsi e con la quale tutti potessero confrontarsi. La postura di UNTHO è quella di un professore alla cattedra: mezzo busto e mani appoggiate sul tavolo. La figura è autoritaria, vuole trasmettere un messaggio come se venisse dall’alto. Untho è una figura icononica: Untho is never tired - Untho is faster than you - Untho is richer than you. L’obbiettivo e provocare una reazione, fare riflettere l’osservatore sul suo modo di vivere.
