From the Editor

hello dear reader! I hope this finds you and your loved ones doing well. Spring has sprung! I'm so excited that my favorite time of the year is here. A nice breeze, lower humidity, and not steamy hot temperatures make for an amazing stroll around City Park. If you've been living here for a while you know it won't last too long. So, enjoy as much as you can. As I sit here in the studio, I have a bird's eye view of the trees and landscapes around me. A sight that fills my heart with much joy. The chartreuse - green with yellow undertones - with pops fuchsia from blooming Azaleas here and there creates a palette that I absolutely love! This amazing weather is also perfect for outdoor entertainment, picnics, and gatherings. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate. Even if it is just meeting friends for a cocktail over a charcuterie board or meeting them at the Park with a blanket, a few snacks, and your favorite beverage. I see an amazing time in your future. Be it a walk in the park or an amazing time with friends, I hope you take the time to enjoy this amazing weather. I hope you enjoy this issue of The Mag. Till next issue,

5 Architectural Elements to Enhance your Home

T

ime and again, I have toured homes that lack detail and interest. To put into perspective, it is like looking at a wedding cake without any decorative icing on it. While baseboards and trims around the doors and windows are standard, I find them very basic. Recently I walked through a home that had baseboards and then trim below the window openings only, not on the top or sides and not even around the doors.

Crown Molding - is an elegant addition that elevates the look of any room. Crown molding truly transforms a space into one very rich in character and creates the illusion of a higher ceiling. In fact, they were originally used to hide the imperfections between the walls and ceiling. Later, they became more elaborate and one of the key elements to enhance the interior appeal of homes.

Architectural elements such as moldings, fireplaces, medallions, beams, and trims are some of the many details added to interiors that turn a home from bleak to beautiful! It is no secret that homes that are filled with architectural elements and such details are worth much more than those that do not. While there is a cost associated with adding such upgrades, it is one that as an expert in embellishing interiors, I find worth the investment. The attention to detail will not only elevate the overall look and feel of your interiors and consequently the furnishings but also add value to your home. Here are five architectural elements that will surely enhance and transform your home. 3 | Riche Home and Lifestyle

Decorative wall trim - Image by Canva

Decorative molding/trim - will enhance a plain wall into one that is attractive and filled with interest. Trims increase the sense of depth to a space and the ability to showcase a great variety of alluring patterns ranging from classic, to rustic to contemporary. Adding thin strips of molding to walls is a great way to add beauty and emphasize artworks. There is a wide array of styles available to transform any room. Medallions - are a perfect and easy way to add beautiful ornamental detail to your ceiling. First seen in formal gathering rooms (living or dining rooms) of wealthy homes during the Victorian era, today they are used as a focal point to enhance the look of a chandelier or pendant light fixture in any room. Nowadays, adding a ceiling medallion gives an opulent look to any room. A medallion with crown molding creates a perfect pairing. Fireplace - is one of my favorite architectural elements in a room as a focal point and for its great variety of ways to architecturally (and decoratively) adorn it. With a wide variety of styles, focus on finding the one that fits the style of your home. The grander and more elaborate, the better are the chances of the return on your investment. Be careful not to go overboard and turn it into something unappealing. The idea is to add a fireplace that fits the style of your home, to become an alluring element in the room. 4 | Riche Home and Lifestyle

Wood beam add interest and depth - Image by Canva

Beams - decorative wooden ones are mostly seen in rustic interiors but certainly not limited to them. When done right, painted, stained, or bare, faux or real, ceiling beams certainly enrich and add character and charm to create a striking statement. If suitable, I encourage you to go beyond the basics and explore adding a few of these architectural elements which will transform your home into an architectural detail haven. A home with properly layered architectural elements will create an ambiance that appeals to a more dignified style. Remember to always consider the style of your home as you are making selections. Consulting with an expert is always a smart idea as they will certainly save you from making costly mistakes.

Design Notes This sitting area was designed with the colors from the contemporary, abstract art on the wall. The result? A space that is vibrant yet serene. Perfect for reading a great novel or relaxing over a cup of tea or a glass of wine while listening to jazz on the gramophone. The wall color sets the tone for the space. The drapery and ottoman linens are seen on the canvas background The curvy sofa adds movement and its color is found is some spots on the right of the painting- what was a detail on the paint became a focal point in the room.

What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I love the feeling I get when I'm walking or riding my bike around the city and I see a house framed by a huge oak tree, or a porch overflowing with plants, and it looks like something out of a

Where do you draw inspiration? The people and places around me inspire my work. I try to capture the light and colors and feeling of what I'm seeing in the moment as I paint. Working on location inspires spontaneity as things are constantly changing. I often meet people in the neighborhood as they're out walking, and the interesting conversations I have add to the experience.

dream. I have a never ending list of places that I want to paint in New Orleans. It's something about the combination of colors, architectural details, and the wildness of the plants that creates a very unique and magical visual experience, and I can't get enough of it. Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? Working on location I draw my inspiration from direct observation. I see shapes and make marks with my brush, and I love to play with the tension between realism and abstraction.

Who are your artistic influences or gurus? I love the Impressionist painters. It was studying Art History that originally sparked my passion for painting, and Monet's use of color has always fascinated and inspired me. My work is also very influenced by my Waldorf education, which involved a lot of wet-on-wet watercolor painting and discouraged outlines, and the use of black. *All info and images from Whereyartworks

This picture simply takes my breath away! The warm tones of the houses contrasted with the vibrant green around them reflecting on the water below are fascinating. It reminds me of the sights seen on a train ride from Vienna to Italy a few years ago. As someone who truly enjoys nature and fresh mountain air, I would fit right in. Just drop me off and come back a month or two later. And join me, of course! Europe has been my sweet spot for quite some time . The moment I came across this article I felt compelled to share it. The Discoverer Blog never disappoints, in The Most Romantic European Towns, you will find six lovely towns to inspire your next romantic getaway. One of the towns has an interesting, yet challenging local tradition. Enjoy! 13 | Riche Home and Lifestyle
