From the Editor

hello dear reader! I hope this finds you and your loved ones doing well. Summer is officially here and it has been sweltering. We’ve got a few more months to go! If we could only skip August. Even though here in the South we’ll remain quite warm for a while longer, I hope you have had a chance to go somewhere cooler and fun or are planning on doing so sometime soon. If that’s not possible make some time to do something to relax and enjoy yourself. We tend to care for others and forget about ourselves. But remember, we need to be well - physically and mentally - in order to have strength to care for others. So, make some time to do something for you! I hope you enjoy what’s inside. Till next issue, Regina Correa

An alluring or exquisite chandelier transforms a room and it is always the topic for great conversation.

An element of surprise such as an antique, adds interest and is a perfect homage to the past.

Home Tour I love the deep blue, coral and red tones in this home tour. Additionally, the wallpaper, textile and flooring patterns as well as the architectural details add to the richness and style of this home. My favorite room is the blue sitting room - it’s moody color sets the perfect tone for the vibrant Frida Kahlo painting.

This moody room has elements of comfort and allure that will captivate those seating for a meal, cocktails, or playing games. The dark walls, adding a touch of mystery and elegance, are the perfect backdrop for the colorful upholstery and drapery. The artworks and the rug were kept abstract with subtle pastel tones juxtaposing the vibrant colors. Sinuous and rounded shapes are repeated throughout for a sense of continuity and movement. The figurine lamp on the right corner is a unique element of surprise, while the chandelier - as unique as it is exotic - adds the perfect touch of glam to the room.

Local Art Painting

Describe your art in three words. Visual history and poetry. Describe yourself in one word. Divine What do you love the most about creating art in New Orleans? What particular part of your immediate environment, in your neighborhood specifically influences your work? I love creating in New Orleans because my work tells a story of where I am from, where I am going, and my mission in life. My neighborhood influences my work because New Orleans breathes Africa and most of my work is based on the history of New Orleans African and African American historical influences. Describe your creative process. Are there any rituals or rites of passage you exercise before you begin a new piece? The poetry behind the story is developed before, during, or in between the piece. Some pieces I receive a message 1st, then the vision appears. While other pieces won't allow my energy to finish creating until the message is received. Some paintings follow with a ritual. While others do not as respect to unknown collectors religious faith.

Queen Hope Parker

King Louis

Where do you draw inspiration? I am inspired by my mission and the youth in urban communities. Someday I will open an art center not limited to visual art, but performing arts, culinary arts, martial arts, boxing, and writing. I feel the crime in my city is related to the lack of extracurricular activities for the youth and role models to influence them to pursue their destiny.

Shotgun in Treme

In New Orleans, art and music go hand in hand. What type of music, band or song lyric best describes your work? Secondline, jazz, brass, classical, hip hop, and African music best describe my artwork. These are all genres I listen to create my pieces. It inspires my poetry as well. Where can we find you when you are not creating art? If I am not doing art business you can catch me in the hospital being a nurse or a doula. TO TRAVEL IS TO LIVE What an amazing quote! It explains perfectly how I feel about traveling - so I decided to share it with you. From an early age, I wanted to travel the world: see its wonders, meet other people, break bread with them whenever possible, and learn about other cultures. I have made wonderful memories from the amazing trips I've taken. They have allowed me to grow and evolve as a human being - their memories will remain with me till I'm gone. My hope is that this quote will inspire you to travel more and create wonderful memories of your own. So, where will you go next?
