HELLO DEAR READER! I hope this finds you and your loved ones in good health. It is August! Our infamous hottest summer month is here and I truly hope it disappoints us for a change. Wouldn't you agree? For many, keeping the body cool isn’t a priority but it is something everyone should take seriously. The heat can cause serious health issues. So, make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Still, I hope you have been enjoying the summer despite the heat -either traveling to a beach near you or even adventuring to some destination where you can take some time to unwind, relax and enjoy life. After all, that’s what we all should strive for. Have a fun-filled August! Enjoy what's inside,

12 Interior Design Tips for Your Home
A
s an interior designer, I understand that decorating a home isn’t an easy task for most. Creating a cohesive look to make it beautiful, stylish, and functional can be very frustrating. There’s no need to fret, I have some tried and true tips that will help you along the way. As someone who is very passionate about creating a nurturing home that reflects the personality and lifestyle of those who live in it, I hope that these tips will encourage you to try at least some if not all of them. 1. Paint, Paint, Paint - I’ve said it time and again and will never get tired of saying that a fresh coat of paint is the easiest, most cost-effective way to freshening up a room. If you feel inspired, take it a step further by adding stripes, perhaps trying an ombré effect (color tones graduating from light to dark), mimicking a polka-dotted or striped wallpaper, etc...Paint is easy, if you don’t like it, just paint over it!

2. White is Classic - Speaking of paint...I know, I know, you might be saying that as a designer I should recommend a hue with more pigment in it. But, white always looks fresh and ready to be paired with any other color. Think of your walls as if it is a canvas ready to have color added to it. I recently painted my living room Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace - it used to off white - and it’s amazing how refreshed the room looks and feels. Everything else just popped against the stark
white walls. I just love it! 3. Invest in an Antique - There’s something special about having an antique in a home. It adds charm, personality and a distinctive look to any space. If you don’t already have an heirloom, try finding a piece that speaks to you. You won’t regret it.
bold wallpaper or a bright or dark color to a wall. Powder rooms are the perfect space to experiment. This is a great way to try something that you might actually like the end result.
4. A Touch of Glass - Adding glass to your kitchen cabinet doors will completely enhance the look of your kitchen, especially if you have low ceilings. Do this on cabinets that hold nice dishes, glasses or china. And, instead of plain glass, try a cool design or a textured glass for a special touch. 5. Details, details, details- The beauty of things are in the details. Adding crown molding and/or trims on the walls or cabinetry always enhances the look and feel of any space. Accenting with architectural features always refines the look of any space. Not only that, it will increase the value of your home. 6. Mix Old and New - Mixing old and new pieces is one of the things I love doing in my designs. There are many ways of refreshing an old piece and allowing it to have a place in a newly designed space. For instance, removing the shades off of a chandelier or replacing them with ones that have a contemporary or fun pattern. Placing an antique rug on the foyer where the pieces around it are modern, or adding a selection of vintage vases in a modern display case, etc...A great example I have used is a Chippendale style sideboard I found at an Estate sale. After some sanding, a couple of coats of paint and adding contemporary hardware, it’s perfect in my home. A classic piece with a new look. 7. Be bold- Don’t be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone such as adding an interesting and 4 | Riche Home and Lifestyle

8. Pattern Play - Patterns are great to create a stylish, layered feel and add interest to any space. Although there are many different ways to do it, a foolproof way is to use patterns in different sizes. For instance, a large-sized pattern on the rug, a mediumsized pattern on the curtains and small-sized patterns on the pillows. Sticking to a color scheme will make the process easier.
9. Display Collectibles - I love the idea of displaying collectibles throughout the home. You may display them by color and style on a surface, inside a cabinet or on top of an armoire. For example, use a vintage pitcher use to arrange flowers, hang vintage plates going up or across a wall, group ginger jars or map globes on top of an armoire, etc...
12. 60/30/10 - When creating a multicolored scheme for your home, use the following formula: 60% for the main color, 30% for the second color and 10% for the accent color. This works for both paint colors or fabrics. I hope these tips got you excited and willing to be adventurous. Go through them carefully and apply them freely throughout your home and notice the difference. My hope is that they will help you live better and love where you live even more.

should be able to come back home to a place
10. Invest in Key Pieces - Whenever making selections or advising my clients, I encourage them to invest on at least 3 key pieces: sofas, rugs and cabinetry. Quality pieces will always look great and last a long time. 11. Keep it Odd - While displaying or arranging items on a surface, keep groupings to odd numbers and different heights - this gives the display a balanced look while creating a level of interest to the overall display.

Shades of Green
Often associated with freshness and harmony, the color green is a very versatile color to use on walls, furnishings, draperies, and accessories. Its lighter tones are fun and fresh while darker ones are sexy, moody, and mysterious.

My New Orleans drawings, numbering in the hundreds now, form a type of map of places known and obscure, memorialized and forgotten, cherished and discarded. These are the things and places I find phenomenal, extraordinary, and even at times boring. FAM - Outside View
