love, peace and joy
DECEMBER '20
From the Editor
HELLO DEAR READER! I hope this finds you and your loved ones doing well. We are just a few weeks away from the end of a year I never imagined I would live. Yet, I remain grateful for my health, family, and friends. As Melodie Beattie wrote, “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more..." This month, I paid particular attention to the Shop Local Gift Guide; three pages curated by price range from a few local shops around town. Let me just say I was very impressed with the array of gifts they have. From fun stationery cards, dog cookies, jewelry, to a stunning oil and gold leaf painting on canvas, these shops will not disappoint! If you can, please support them. Holiday shopping might bring in some much-needed revenue. I feel we all should make our last month of 2020 extra special. If you never decorated, take some time to do so this year. Make your living spaces cozy and beautiful. You'll be amazed at how wonderful you will feel when you get home.

Why We Should Decorate for Christmas This Year
sychologists have confirmed that people who decorate earlier for Christmas are happier. This implies those who decorate are happy. I am not saying you should decorate earlier, nor that you
are unhappy, but I feel we all should decorate for the holidays this year! Let me explain….. Undoubtedly, this year has proven to be challenging for all of us in some way or another and for this reason alone I highly encourage you to decorate your home for the holidays. I am a firm believer of “like attracts like” and “fake it until you make it”; this means if you engage in behaviors to make you happy, happiness will come. Although I usually do some decorating, it is nowhere nearly as elaborate as some people. This means, like me, you don’t have to go overboard unless you want to. It is the feeling of wonderment the season brings which translates into creating this beautiful, cozy environment I get to experience for about two months. The revamp in the decor is certainly appreciated; the change in the mood that happens in my home after 5 pm is enchanting. When the string lights get turned on, it feels so serene, soothing, and comfortable. It’s funny, I can feel it as I am writing. Statistically, 9 in 10 Americans celebrate the Christmas/Holiday season. Here are a few reasons: Feeling of nostalgia. Expression of faith. Ways to connect with loved ones (past and present). The reassurance of a family tradition. Time to feel and show happiness and gratitude - many are more generous around the holidays. Time for distant relatives to come visit. It increases hope and gets people into the holiday spirit.

Necessity to express creativity and artistry, etc...
Personally, I take the time to decorate because it not only brings back memories from my childhood, though the holidays’ traditions in Brazil are somewhat different than here, I also appreciate the change in the mood. The change is apparent around town, it is also reflected in my interiors as well as the look and feel of my home. This has allowed me to create new memories; there’s something magical about the most wonderful time of the year, and I truly love and embrace that feeling. For those who want to raise their “decoration game” for the holidays or need some guidance, the stylish Christmas decor ideas on pages 8 and 9 will help, but here are a few things to consider: Start with these 3 basic elements: greenery (plants, trees, garlands or wreaths), string lights, and beautiful ribbons. Create a color palette - 2 or 3 colors are a great start. (i.e, red, green, and gold). It’s ok to be monochromatic - if you’re going that route, use metallic finishes and texture to add dimension and interest. String lights are perfect alone or within greeneries; make sure the bulbs on the lights are the same color and type. It creates a more refined look to your selections. If you don’t have or set up a Christmas tree, create a focal point. Mantels or fireplaces are great substitutes. Experiment w/ greenery on railings, around doorways, windows, mirrors, etc… Don’t neglect the front door. A beautiful wreath hanging on the door demonstrates that your home is in the spirit of the holidays and it creates a warm invitation to guests. Whether you decorate for any of the reasons above or for your own motivations, I hope it brings extra cheer into your home this holiday season. Seasons greetings to you and your loved ones. To help get you in the mood, listen to my traditional holiday music list here. My favorites are Nat King Cole’s "The Christmas Song" and Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby." Christina Aguilera's version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" always gives me the chills. Now if you will excuse me, I’ve got some Christmas decorating to do! 4 | Riche Home and Lifestyle

Mindful Thoughts This piece is part of the Sacred Mornings ebook brought to you by Deanna Causey @soulsayers
Reset This is the time fo reset. We've had to shift our thinking on many levels as we figure out how to manage lives in ways we haven't had to before. So many adjustments. If you had any thoughts about what you could control - you're finding out, it's not nearly as much as you thought. Changing, adapting is the new normal. Here's a couple of keys to make your shifts and adaptations easier. Acceptance is the centering act of understanding that in this world, on this planet, many challenging things will occur. You won't like them all but know there is a purpose for everything under the sun. Cycles and flows, highs and lows. Difficult events, in particular, have an odd way of balancing other things out. Trust you can be in the midst of a storm, swept up in the rushing currents, and not have to fight against it. Let it take you wherever it goes because when you finally settle, you will be precisely where you're supposed to be. Don't focus on what you do't want, what you don't have, where you don't think you can go...turning your energy toward lack of any kind is counterproductive. Do you want abundance? Then BE abundant! Give like you are right smack in the middle of the overflow and watch what happens for you. Abundance isn't about having a bunch of things - it's having a bunch of love, joy, and heart. Abundance flows out of freedom, not constriction. So closing off and hoarding in the physical and spiritual worlds will undoubtedly keep you in physical and spiritual lack. This is an excellent time to grow spiritually. Prayer, mediation, yoga, silence, aromatherapy, reading. It seems like the time is now, don't you think? The world needs mediators, intercessors, warriors, and encouragers. How do you see yourself growing during this time? What can you do spiritually?
Mantra I am full of patience and faith Stronger for everything I've been through I am flexible, I know how to move in the flow I am nourished by change Everything is as it should be All is in Divine Order. SACREDMORNINGS|ŠSOULSAYERS,LLC 10 | Riche Home and Lifestyle
