From the Editor

HELLO DEAR READER! I hope this finds you and your loved ones in good health and, vaccinated? It's already March! I know I’m not the only one who feels time seems to be going by much faster. Am I? My hope is that The Mag will inspire you to enjoy the place you call home. Besides looking at different aspects of living in a richer environment, this month, we celebrate all the mothers, daughters, aunts, and sisters of the world. March 8th is International Women's Day. May their tenacity, resiliency, and strength keep making strides and breaking barriers.

Also this month, I celebrate the woman who made me her first daughter. She is the woman who raised me, the one who shaped the caring, responsible, and determined woman I have become. Her birthday is on March 15th. Feliz Aniversário, mamãe! If you will, take the time to celebrate the woman or women in your life. March is also Women's History Month.

I hope you enjoy what I have curated for you. Till next issue,

Regina Correa

Avoiding Mistakes When Renovating a Kitchen

often say that the most important room in a home isn’t the kitchen; it is the bedroom. Some disagree but I concur that the kitchen is the most popular/used room in most homes. After all, that's where delicious meals are prepared as well as socializing and entertaining happens. Renovating a kitchen is not an easy task; one that must be meticulously planned and carefully analyzed before decisions are made. It is, however, definitely an investment that pays off. It not only adds to the beauty and function of the space but most importantly, adds equity to your home. Before you embark on the seas of home renovation, there are a few things you can do to help make the journey smoother.

In addition, great space planning will contribute to the flow and efficiency of your kitchen. Here are 4 standard aspects of the work triangle principle to consider: A leg of the triangle should be about 4 to 9 feet based on the size of your kitchen. The sum of all three sides of the triangle should be 13 feet to 26 feet. Cabinets or other obstacles should not intersect any leg of the triangle by more than 12 inches. If possible, no major traffic flow should disturb the triangle.

Design Icon In honor of Women History Month, I celebrate this Design Icon. It is thanks to her that I love what I do. Elsie de Wolfe invented Decorating - later the profession of interior design came to being. De Wolfe was born in 1865, in New York. She was an actress. However, in 1905 her world changed when she was commissioned to decorate The Colony Club - the first womenonly social club in New York. Later she became the decorator of high society. As a decorator, she was determined to eradicate the Victorian era interiors from American homes. In her book, The House in Good Taste, she expresses her desire for lighter and comfortable interiors with plenty of natural light. Some of her iconic clients were Condé Nast and the Duchess of Windsor. Portrait of Elsie de Wolfe - Courtesy of the Frick Collection/Frick Art Reference Library Archives

To Travel is a Gift Anyone who knows me well knows that I love to travel as well as eating delicious food and drinking red wine. I truly feel that traveling is a gift. As you may know, my life has completely changed during a travel trip: my vacation trip to New Orleans 21 years ago. I find traveling very transformative. It has allowed me to experience and understand other cultures in how they live, what they eat, their beliefs, their way of life. It has not only widened the horizon of my knowledge but also granted me to see the world from a different perspective. This month, I suggest you virtually travel by checking out Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. This show, and its fantastic

host Phil Rosenthal, have helped me tame my thirst for travel during the pandemic. This show is engaging to the point that I want to revisit some of the places I have already been to and visit places that were off my radar. Our world is such an amazing place. So many places to visit, so little time! If you haven't seen the show, I hope you give it a try. Phil might seem weird or quirky, as my beloved puts it, but he does a phenomenal job in connecting with the people that sit with or around him either on the side of the road or in a fine dining restaurant. To me, that's what traveling is about, connecting with and experiencing the world, the people, their food, and their culture. Enjoy it!
