DAM Decolight has been selling Christmas lights for more than 25 years. One of the fields of operation of AS ADAM BD, founded in Estonia in 1989, was the wholesale of Christmas lights. After 10 years, we found that our customers had become more demanding over time and we decided to dedicate ourselves fully to that field. We started to provide complete solutions from concept, design and production all the way to installation and maintenance.

Since then, the progress of the company has been quick and systematic. We opened our Latvian office in 2002, started working in Lithuania in 2003 and developed a distribution network in Finland in 2003, in Denmark in 2007 and in Sweden and Russia in 2008. Today, our extra services include designing projects and development plans, installing and taking down decorations as well as storing and maintaining them. In the past 17 years, we have secured our position as market leaders in the Baltic countries and in northern Europe. Our customers include

most local governments and shopping centres in the whole Baltic Sea region. We have also created striking solutions for well-known objects in neighbouring countries: Palace Square and its surrounding streets in St. Petersburg; Helsinki Airport and other airports in Finland; Citycon shopping centres in Estonia and Finland; Ikea, SĂ¤len ski resort and other places in Sweden. The list goes on and on. All of this has been achieved thanks to quality, something we value more than anything else. All the materials and components we use are se-

lected from the best producers in the world and tested year-round in all kinds of weather conditions. Materials and components are used only after we are completely convinced that they are reliable. Our production facility with 4000 m2 of production and storage area is located near Tallinn and the employees who work there are true professionals. Ever since we started, we have also put great emphasis on product design, which we believe to be one of our trumps. The fact that we have won international procurements thanks to high-class creative solutions is a clear indicator that we are moving in the right direction. The production of lighting solutions is something that can only be learned through years of experience. Customersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; preferences and expec-

tations vary greatly from country to country. For example, modest design and warm light are the prevalent choice in Scandinavia and northern Europe. In the Baltic region, people ask for both warm and cold light and the further south we go, the more we encounter various colours and special solutions. We are able to adapt to the desires and preferences of different cultures and nations â&#x20AC;&#x201C; that is the only way. This February, for the first time ever, we attended the Christmasworld 2016 fair in Frankfurt. The feedback we received was extremely positive and hugely encouraging, inspiring us to expand our activities further across the world. Most of all, people noticed our skill in combining different materials, lighting sources and design and how in-

novative our products were. We will definitely be going to Frankfurt in the years to come. Despite all this, ADAM Decolight does not produce only Christmas lights. Over the past few years, our product range has grown to include more and more products that can be used year-round. We offer lighting solutions from wall to wall, such as new level video mapping, outdoor light fixtures for year-round use, LED facade lights, LED screens, DMX LED light curtains, LED streetlights, Gobo projectors. We also designed and produced the lighting in the hotel rooms in the newly built Tallinn Hilton hotel. We are professional and capable of handling everything that is connected to lights and lamps, and ready to take on any relating challenge.

his year, ADAM Decolight reaches its 17th year of activity. It has been long enough to get to know the markets in other countries and test out different products and their durability in various weather conditions. We have acquired the skill to see and recognise what our customers want. But most importantly, we have learned to provide complete solutions from concept, design, material shipping and production to installing, taking down, storing and utilising products. Naturally, all of this includes ongoing upgrades to our products and making use of new technical solutions. We have also constantly improved or product range. We have long since moved on from strictly Christmas products, providing everything that relates to light, light design, LED technology, etc. We love challenges! Luckily, life has offered enough challenges in the past few years, be it the implementation of a complete lighting solution for the main Christmas tree in St. Petersburg, designing and producing the interior lighting in Hilton Tallinn Park Hotel, designing and realising complete solutions for Helsinki Airport and other airports in Finland, or other works. Accomplishing every such project gives us a multitude of experience that we can use for the benefit of our customers in the future. CHRISTMAS TREES from a small town in Estonia

n global terms, the small town of Rakvere in Estonia with its population of 15,400 barely makes a mark on the map. Nevertheless, TEET SUUR, the local council’s Cultural Arts Manager, has managed to bring his hometown to the attention of the world media thanks to some unique Christmas trees. Suur is a modest man. Having worked for the local newspaper as a photographer and a driver he is au fait with local life and can pinpoint the peculiarities that are characteristic of Rakvere: “I don’t dare to claim it in full confidence, but as far as I know, in Europe at least, Rakvere is the town with the smallest population to have its own professional theatre – so maybe there are other things to be proud of besides our Christmas trees!” he says. And he is right: there is a great deal related to Rakvere that is extraordinary. For example, the only punk song festival in the world is held there, and has been since 2008. And Rakvere is where legendary Estonian

composer Arvo Pärt started out on his musical journey. But back to the Christmas trees. Why are Rakvere's trees so special that in 2014 even the US newspaper Huffington Post named it one of the most unique Christmas trees in the world? “I think all towns and cities and countries are interested in introducing themselves to the world,” says Suur. “And obviously a little town like Rakvere couldn’t do that through massive media campaigns, because there just isn’t enough money. But if there’s a great idea, no money is needed.” Suur confesses that he figured this out later, when Reuters and other media publications started interviewing him.

2013: an ENTIRE TOWN SQUARE of CHRISTMAS TREES

In 2013, when the new council’s Cultural Arts Manager decided to give up the idea of one big, traditional Christmas tree brought in from the

forest, he thought like an artist. He wanted to do something special; something different and memorable. “Bringing a Christmas tree in from the forest is exactly the same process every year,” Suur explains. “When you try to recall them all later, every Christmas is exactly the same and there’s nothing special to look forward to beforehand. There’s no excitement. This idea had been whirling around in my head for a long time before I started working as the council’s Cultural Arts Manager.” Another aspect was that Suur wanted to be more eco-friendly and to make Christmas trees out of materials that would otherwise be destroyed. In the first year, he and his team gathered younger spruces during maintenance logging near the town and set them up on the town square. The whole square was full of them. They were decorated with 17 000 LED bulbs, producing an unforgettable sight. Unfortunately, strong winds tended to tip them over. A year later the

artist had the courage to take things one step further: to build a Christmas tree from wood scrap.

2014: a CHRISTMAS TREE MADE FROM SCRAPS of WOOD

“Of course there was a big possibility it’d be a failure,” Suur admits. “After all, it was a Christmas tree we were dealing with – a deeply symbolic and sacred thing, which at some point is reverently admired by the whole town. And to be honest, there was a great deal of criticism, especially before we’d completed it. But on the first Sunday in Advent, when the lights were finally switched on, you could hear a “wow!” go through the crowd, and quite a few of the critics changed their mind!” The artist was helped by local sawmills, whose leftover timber they contributed to the setting up of the tree. “In the end, nothing really was very different,” Suur adds. “The wood was mainly spruce, just in an-

other form. And when it is was properly lit up, the effect at night was even greater. During the day it reminded us of the straw crown known from folklore, which is also part of our Christmas traditions.”

2015: a CHRISTMAS TREE MADE of OLD WINDOWS

A year later, Suur came up with an even crazier idea: to build a Christmas tree out of old windows. “There are massive renovation works going on everywhere, with houses being given a winter makeover and their windows being replaced,” he explains. “Old wooden windows are often just left lying around, and recycling can be costly. In addition, a window itself is a strong symbol: Estonia has been called a window to Europe, and nowadays everyone knows the Windows operating system on computers. So we thought the symbol could touch a lot of people.” Suur gathered together 120 windows with relatively little effort, and with the help of vocational school students a 12-metre Christmas tree was built – exactly the same height as the year before. Although this tree was more extreme, it received less criticism. “I guess everyone had gotten

used to the idea of an unusual tree, because the one before it had received feedback from around the world, and people were excited to see what surprise was in store for them this time,” says Suur. “And the media coverage was even wider: it made the news in Australia, China, Malaysia, Canada and elsewhere. Reuters made a video clip about it, and an Ecology magazine

“Handicrafts and recycling will remain our guiding principles when making this year’s Christmas tree,” Suur revealed. “Which is to say people’s contribution to building something special. That’s of great value throughout the process. Our cooperation with the vocational school will continue so that the students have the chance to practise. What this year’s tree will look like… well, I have a few ideas. But one thing’s certain: this tradition will continue, and continue to surprise!" Suur adds that he has been asked before whether people in Rakvere will see a traditional Christmas tree any time soon – and he has always answered: “Probably not any time soon!”

OLD TOWN OF TALLINN

WAS THE FIRST

Christmas tree erected in Estonia or Latvia? Neighbours have a habit of competing with one another. Who has the fancier car? Who has the prettier lawn? Who first came up with the idea of doing something or other the way they do it? And then they brag to their acquaintances that we were actually the ones who came up with the idea. Neighbouring countries Estonia and Latvia are no different. In particular, their dispute over where the tradition of setting up a Christmas tree on the town square began is ongoing. The Latvians say the first public Christmas tree was set up in Riga in 1510, but the Estonians

say the tradition started in Tallinn as early as 1441. And they will probably keep quarrelling, because the truth can no longer be made out. However, it is certain that the first Christmas tree was set up by the Brotherhood of the Blackheads more than 500 years ago in Northern Europe, and that it could have been here, or there, or even several places at once. The Brotherhood of Blackheads operated in Rīga, Tallinn and possibly elsewhere. However, the Latvians take this issue seriously and have turned it into a sort of tourist attraction. Even a tablet has been erected on Town Hall Square, in front of the building that belonged to the Brotherhood of Blackheads. The text on it is in eight languages: “The First New Year’s Tree, Rīga, 1510.” The Christmas tree was also stamped onto a Latvian coin, but this is no longer in circulation. Legendary Estonian historian and a chevalier Jüri Kuuskemaa, who knows the history of Tallinn inside out, does not let himself be affected by all this, confirming that the Brotherhood of Blackheads set up a public Christmas tree in Tallinn in 1441, between the Winter Solstice and Christmas Eve. And he is not bothered by the fact that the Latvians consider themselves to be the ones who started the tradition. In his work Hõbevalge, former Estonian president Lennart Meri referred to a document that goes some way to prove that a Christmas tree was first set up in Tal-

linn in 1441. But since the document, which was discovered in 1885, was somewhat ambiguous and has since been destroyed, Estonians have never proclaimed it as the absolute truth. However, several historians have compared facts and come to believe that the document in question spoke accurately about the Christmas tree. The dispute between the two nations became quite heated, as demonstrated by the fact that in 2010 the prime ministers of Estonia and Latvia officially agreed that the Christmas tree tradition started in the historical region of Livonia. Both Tallinn and Rīga were part of Livonia during the period in question, and in any case it was certainly in Livonia, regardless of where the event actually took place in. There are no other competitors that can be taken seriously – in Berlin, for example, the first public Christmas tree was only erected on the Town Square in 1780, while in London this happened for the first time in around 1840, and not until 1865 in Paris.

GREEN EDITION:

DAM's Limited Green edition is an original and unique, conscious approach to festive lighting in the world. For the first time, recyclable materials and real live trees are used for decorations. All the trees are handpicked to suit the busy urban life, with great handling of air pollution and infrequent need for watering from selected growth areas – for example the Serbian spruce (Picea omorika) and mountain pines (Pinus mugo). Using real trees minimises the production and recycling pollution of plastic that artificial trees and filling materials are made from. Not only that, but you can re-plant the trees in the forest after a season or recycle the remaining fodder. While they are used as decorations, they even absorb the carbon dioxide from the streets and convert it to oxygen. For filling, instead of plastic garlands, we use a coconut liner that is a natural fibre material made from the husk of ripe coconuts. It is recyclable material, meaning there is less waste and

thus an even smaller environmental footprint. Coconut fibres also benefit trees, as they not only provide good aeration, but they also hold a great deal of water, and release it slowly, which is better for the roots. The structure itself is made of metal – which is also easily recyclable. To keep it festive, optional baubles are used and LED decorative lights – which meet the higher standards, both in LED electricity consumption and recycling of LED wires. All products carry visible labels, to confirm they are green – this is also visible to people walking – a little prize for our customers for taking a step toward a greener, more conscious future. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS: new options Adamâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s selection of Christmas decorations now includes unique Shooting Star LED tubes with separate transformers for each tube. Previously, the same type of lights available on the market included one large transformer for every five lamps, which made installation rather uncomfortable and complicated. Thanks to waterproof quick link connector plugs and the lack of a transformer, these new tubes can be used in more ways than before and working with them is much easier and more convenient. LED Shooting Star lights are also available in the form of a curtain. Additionally, you can opt for new flashing string lights where every lamp flashes separately, creating a sparkly diamond effect to accompany static lights. The LED Curls light chain consists of 400 lamps placed on a five-meter string and is constructed using the best available materials (as are all our other products): double insulated rubber cable, waterproof quick link connector plugs and bright LED lamps. As a new item, we offer 10-meter E27 string lights that are now available with round rubber cables and quick link connectors. These connectors allow for every subsequent string light to be powered by linking it to the previous cable, making installation much easier and more convenient. NEW MATERIALS used for decorations

Adamâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s product range now includes several new materials such as glittering sequins, acrylic glass, weatherproof baubles, the usage possibilities of which have been consistently improved over the years. The purpose of these materials is to look striking even during the day when lighting no longer creates an effect. Adam won the procurement for the design and production of the lighting solution for the main Christmas tree in St. Petersburg, which included the use of a number of plastic baubles that needed to be durable, nice-looking and eye-catching even during the daytime. From then on, this technology has been constantly updated and refined. The product line has been improved with glittering sequins (with reflective elements) or strings that glitter and sparkle delightfully whenever they catch light, be it night or day. Options now also include various acrylic glass decorative solutions that provide evenly scattered light. These products can successfully be used both indoors and out, including, for example, for year-round outdoor lighting. See products on pages 152, 153

New materials for LIGHTING SOLUTIONS Different LED strips that can be used to create amazing lighting effects (cornices, highlighted stripes, background lights, flat lighting) are becoming more and more common in interior design projects and decorative solutions. Adam’s product range now includes DMX RGB LED strips where every 10 cm section can be controlled separately. With different controllers and special effects created by our designers, you can make static light dynamic. This is possible thanks to DMX signals that contain information packets sent by the controllers. The brightness level and firing time of every 10 cm section of the LED strip can be set individually. For example, the new building of the Estonian National Museum is equipped with a system than imitates a river – lights start flickering like water at the sound of people walking. Adam’s product range also includes new and powerful pre-completed LED light strips with which it is possible to use LED light solutions as the only light source in the room, as decorative lights or as colour-changing decorative lights. It

is important to note that the requirements for all these lighting solutions are exactly specified and the lights are produced and completed on special order – the lights are no longer completed on site as was previously customary. This approach enables the production of light strips as high quality lamps that are cheap and quick to install. For example, Adam produced the interior lighting for the rooms and most of the lighting solutions in the common rooms and the decorative lighting in the casino at the Hilton Tallinn Park hotel. NEW & UNIQUE PROJECTION TECHNOLOGY for permanent outdoor video mapping As a new option, Adam now offers its customers video mapping projection technology and service designed for outdoor use that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Video mapping and displaying videos, texts and photos outdoors is normally associated with all kinds of security and weather-related risks and previously was only temporarily possible. This new system can be installed anywhere without having to guard it or worry about moisture. The system

works all year and can be managed online from anywhere. The device scans the architecture of the building being projected on and the video is then created taking into account the peculiarities of the building. You can change the items being displayed at any time and change video mappings, texts or patterns. This technology is unique and fundamentally changes the possibilities for outdoor video mapping. LED Strip

Adam Decolightâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s product line has featured different ropelights for years. Now we are also offering possibilities to illuminate your indoor or outdoor project with LED Strips. LED Strip is basically ropelight with powerful SMD LEDs, which makes it similar to product like wallwashers (brightness wise). The models with high number of LEDs give enough light to illuminate a room or a facade. We can produce and install LED Strips with various colors light outputs and also voltages. 12V LED Strips have RGB versions with various ways of controlling the light-show. While 12V LED Strips are already known in the market, the 230V SMD LED Strip is relatively new. We have tested 230V products with good results. You can have a strip with a length of up to 50m, which is powered only from one starting cable.

LED Screens

LED SCREENS LED screens are becoming more and more popular all over the world. Since Adam Decolight knows itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s way around with LEDs and metal structures, we have made it our priority to get to know the LED screens well. We have set up outdoor screens as well as indoor screens. We have been part of designing and building metal constructions for the screens to be mounted on streets and also worked with architects to integrate the screens into a newly built houses. As always we will take the project as a whole: starting with the visualizations of the different sized screens on your location and finishing with the complete working system ready to fill the demands of the client. LED screens are sold as a complete project. So we encourage you to contact us with your request so we can find the right solution for your project. The LED modules shown in our catalogue use Epistar LEDs, Outdoor modules have an IP rating of 65 and perform well even in the worst weather conditions. But there are many variables when it comes to choosing an LED screen. Contact us and together we can find the right product for you.

Every building with an outstanding architecture should have a carefully planned light design to bring aesthetics into the long evenings of the city space. Many architects already plan the lighting from the start, but it is also possible to do it afterwards. We design and carry out the lighting plot for your house or garden so it would be a whole with the general architectural idea. GOBO PROJECTORS

Adam Decolightâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Innovative Product Line features a technology originated from theatre lighting. Profile spotlights or in other words projectors, which are specially developed for outdoor use. The projectors can project any kind of visual still images onto different surfaces. Main article being Building Facade Light Design. Very high light output discharge lamps grant a crisp image, which will stand out in the cityspace as something interesting. The image is projected by focusing light through a glass, which has an image printed on it. This piece of glass is called a gobo. By replacing gobo effects, you can replace the whole light design. Designing and producing new gobo effects is very economical way for renewing a light design. *A line of moving effects is also available (water and fire effect, gently falling snow, stars or notes etc.)

Before installing any garlands, motifs or decorations please make sure that the surfaces that you plan to ﬁx the decors on (walls, poles, trees, constructions etc) are strong and stable enough to hold the items and preserve peoples safety. Always use professional ﬁxation materials and tools to get the best result.

General pole motif installation: USE (see ACCESSORIES section) - Pole mount 58001.50 - 2 pcs per motif - 3 pcs per motif over 3m - Metal strip 58005.50 - 2 strips per one Pole mount - Metal clips 58006.50 - 2 clips per one Pole mount

1. Fix the hooks from 58001.50 to a motif.

2. Fix the base from 58001.50 on a pole using metal strip 58005.50 and clips 58006.50.

3. Assemble both parts of 58011.50, secure together and connect power cable to the power source.

1. Attach the wires to the motif.

2. Fix the motif to the wall at the fixation points on the motif using screws.

3. Attach the wires to the top of the wall for extra safety and connect power cable to the power source.

2. Fix the motif to the rope using wires 58015.xx and carabines 58051.50 / 58050.50 and connect power cable to the power source.

Be aware that decorations include an IP44 power cable (length – 150cm) with the location of the cable shown in the drawings below. If you need longer power cable or want to change the location of it, please inform us about your needs before placing the order. IMPORTANT! Never hang the decoration on power cable only to avoid damage, use extra wires for fixation!
