RENEWING YOUR F-1 STUDENT VISA
If you are an F-1 student in the United States, you must know when you should request to renew your F1 status, and the process to do so. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) needs the students to finish their study by the end date on their I-20 form. This date is usually created by the admission officer to show the average time duration a student requires to complete their degree program. If it becomes necessary to renew your I-20, the International Center can grant extensions to eligible students.
STEPS TO RENEW YOUR F-1 VISA Apply for reinstatement Reinstatement is a request to renew your F-1 status without leaving the U.S. For this, you need to fill Form I-539 Application to Change Nonimmigrant Status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Ask your DSO for a new I-20 Another option to restore your F-1 status is that you can leave the country and apply for a fresh F-1 visa from the U.S. consulate in your country. In this option, your DSO will issue you a new I-20 with a new SEVIS ID number.
