HUIS VOOR GELUID HOUSE FOR SOUND NL De kunstenaar is altijd in transitie. Dat onderstreept singer-songwriter Bert Dockx met de titel van zijn nieuwe solo-album Transit. Met deze ‘overgangsplaat’ sluit Dockx het seizoen in STUK af, een mooie metafoor voor het artistieke proces dat nooit eindigt. Het siert gevestigde waarden zoals Bert Dockx, maar ook synthesizertrio Meteor Musik en pianist-componist Frederik Croene, dat ze zichzelf blijven heruitvinden en in vraag stellen, ondanks hun lijvig palmares. Zo gaat Meteor Musik een nieuwe uitdaging aan met hun audiovisuele voorstelling EON op maat van het Planetarium en zoekt Croene de doodlopende straatjes van zijn instrument op. Ook elektronicavocalist Annelies Monséré en mediakunstenaar Floris Vanhoof, beiden actief sinds de vroege jaren 2000, nemen geen vrede met het status quo. Monséré stelt haar nieuwe plaat, een uitgepuurde parel, voor in het sfeervolle belle époque-kader van het BAC Atelier, in double bill met de Poolse cellist Resina. Vanhoof weigert dan weer te kiezen tussen disciplines en meandert voor zijn uit 50 speakers opgebouwde geluidsinstallatie Polyhedra tussen muzikale compositie, instrumentenbouw en sculptuur. Dat proces van zoeken, worden en ontwikkelen houdt nooit op. Het Japanse geluidsicoon Akio Suzuki viert binnenkort zijn 80e verjaardag maar zijn onstilbare honger naar akoestische fenomenen stuurt hem nog steeds de wereld rond, samen

EN The artist is always in transition, in a state of flux. Singersongwriter Bert Dockx places emphasis on this with the title of his new solo album: Transit. Dockx closes this season at STUK with his ‘transition album’: a beautiful metaphor for the perpetual artistic process. With their wide renown, it’s much to their credit that established artists such as Bert Dockx, the synthesizer trio Meteor Musik and pianist composer Frederik Croene, continue to reinvent and question themselves. To give an example, Meteor Musik is taking on a new challenge with their audiovisual show EON, especially designed for the Planetarium, and Croene is daring to explore the blind allies of his instrument. Likewise, electronics vocalist Annelies Monséré and media artist Floris Vanhoof, both active since the early 2000s, never settle for the status quo. Monséré presents her absolute pearl of a new album in the atmospheric belle époque setting of BAC Atelier during a double bill with the Polish cellist Resina. And, once again, Vanhoof refuses to choose between disciplines, roving between musical composition, instrument construction and sculpture with his sound installation, composed of 50 speakers, Polyhedra. This process of searching, becoming and developing never ceases. The Japanese sound-art icon Akio Suzuki will soon be celebrating his 80th birthday, yet his insatiable appetite for acoustic phenomena continues to take him, along with his

Zo organiseren we voor de eerste keer een showcase voor jonge geluidskunstenaars, met in de selectie performances van Oona Libens, Ruben Martinez Orio & Lore Stessel, Jonathan Frigeri en Lukas De Clerck. Ten slotte slaan STUK en de jonge Leuvense concertorganisatoren van INUIT de handen in elkaar voor een café-concert met future-funkers Bombataz en de lo-fi pop van Sergeant.

With Sound in May, we initiate a new focus for sound art in the month of May, in the form of a duo exhibition with the (also Japanese) sound bricoleur Rie Nakajima and Floris Vanhoof. Our artistic explorations start with our youngest generation of musicians and artists. STUK offers them the ideal context to develop and present their work to an audience. Now for the first time we are organising a platform for young sound artists, with performances from Oona Libens, Ruben Martinez Orio & Lore Stessel, Jonathan Frigeri and Lukas De Clerck. And to top it off, STUK and the young Leuven concert organisers from INUIT join forces for a café concert with future funkers Bombataz and the lo-fi pop of Sergeant.
