A layered dance solo about identity, the world of imagination and the performativity of the everyday

The Mirror Stand is a solo performance that aims to investigate the notion of identity, articulate the oscillations between the axes of black suffering and black joy, research the concept of performativity and focus on questions of undoing. It translates ideas, intangible ephemera and phenomena into tangible choreographic propositions, and offers a new physical transformation with a mix of seriousness and foolishness. The work dives into an imaginative sphere, revisits some personal complexes and interrogates: How within a fixed identity history can we find our ways to express our own specificity within that universality? One of the goals of the solo is to explore different ways of playing with some identities the protagonist recognized within itself, and try to challenge them. I have been discovering different ways of embodying, and impersonating available bodies in order to find a new embodied language, within a language that is already seen as common. I deal with different forms of entertainment, states of being, ways of expressing, inhabiting the body, and juxtaposing body parts with some characters manners. I mobilize hyper-representationality versus abstraction; hyper-subjectivity versus collectivity; rage versus joy; seriousness versus frivolity. I attempt to possibly deploy some kind of signification in expressing politics through dancing, and follow some desires with the intention to access and create an imaginary world with the satisfaction of not reaching anything potentially classified.

Bio Stanley Ollivier is a dancer, performer and maker from Paris, France. E — Jonas Bang is a Danish director and filmmaker whose style is characterized by a raw and poetic touch and a playful eye for detail. Mostly known for his music videos, Dream Diver marks Bang’s debut as an autonomous filmmaker. E — Early in the summer, a week before they left school and went their separate ways, the band Dream Diver invites a film crew in to document their first – and last – live performance. The band consists of six boys who have known each other for 10 years at a school in Rødovre for children with special needs. Guided by their teachers the boys found their sound, and in Dream Diver, they invite you into their space-sounding universe filled with synthetic bird whistles and abstract dream lyrics.
