Aripi Community Bringing neighbours together and empowering them to make their ideas become reality! Oltenitei residents have limited space to interact and they feel unsafe on the streets. Oltenitei residents have very limited public space to interact; car parks and apartments dominate. Some children queue to enter the few small playgrounds. Many others however go outside the neighbourhood to Tineretului Park or the mall for recreational activities, further reducing neighbourly interaction. Residents also feel unsafe. Parents are unwilling to let their children play in the streets and older people fear delinquent youth.

A common space for neighbours to interact, bond and realise their ideas The solution: a common space for neighbours to interact, bond and realise their ideas. Aripi will provide an apartment for Oltenitei residents to gather and realise their ideas. From this space, Aripi will run an after school care centre for twenty primary school students. There, the children will complete their homework, nap, learn arts and crafts, street dancing, gardening and entrepreneurship, play games and improve their English. Their parents will cover three quarters of the centre’s operational costs. Retirees can gather in the morning to knit, garden, cook and play games. After 6pm, youth and adults can attend movie nights, trivia nights and other events for a small fee. Refreshments will also be sold. Further offerings include entrepreneurship workshops, access to donated books and tools, a website advertising skills of local trades people, the ability to hire the space for private events and a bimonthly market at the school. The community can suggest further activities, volunteer and will eventually run the centre.

Our company structure Our motivated team of six passionate professionals makes board decisions by consensus, supported by our experience in people, event and project management, marketing, public relations, finance, graphic design and childcare. While we will initially make all operational decisions considering community suggestions, community volunteers will be brought on board and trained to eventually take over operational management.

This entrepreneurial idea is an outcome of an Intensive Study Programme hosted at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies from May 13 - 21, 2016. This learning activitiy has been organised by the teaching consortium of the ERASMUS+ Strategic Partnership ‚Social Entrepreneurship for Local Change‘.
