Stutterheim is a small-scale, new Swedish company where we do things quite opposite to most other brands. Production takes place in the last factory standing in Sweden, by hand, day by day with passiondriven ambition to make iconic items in which to look sharp even when the sky opens. Another ambition is to make our wearers embrace the rain and the melancholy often occurring in bad weather. For us, feeling blue is actually a good thing, it will soon evolve into creativity! We work closely with the seamstresses Lena, Birgitta and Ingrid who have great skills, knowledge of tradition and craftsmanship and great attention to materials and details. Each coat is signed and numbered by the seamstress to make sure the quality matches the very highest of standards. Welcome to Stutterheim. Welcome to Swedish melancholy at its driest.
M E L A N C HOLY A N D C R E AT I V I T Y Feeling blue inspires creativity. What if August Strindberg, Ingmar Bergman, Karin Boye and hundreds of other famous Swedish artists had lived their lives in a state of perpetual bliss? Would they still have produced such fantastic work? Probably not. Being melancholic is an essential part of being a human being. If we try too hard to get rid of melancholy it’s almost like we’re settling for a half-life. To embrace melancholy is ultimately to embrace joy. Melancholy shouldn’t be confused with depression. Melancholy is an active state. When we’re melancholic, we feel uneasy with the way things are, the status quo, the conventions of our society. We yearn for a deeper, richer relationship with the world. And in that yearning, we’re forced to explore the potential within ourselves – a potential we might not have explored if we were simply content. We come up with new ways of seeing the world and new ways of being in the world. Melancholy and creativity go together like ebony and ivory on a piano. Let’s embrace Swedish melancholy. Embracing rain is a good start.
AR H O LM A Using the finest craftsmanship, materials and details, the Arholma is a state of the art version of the traditional raincoat worn by generations of Swedish fishermen (and the occasional genius film director). It is hand sewn at our factory in Bor책s by one of our skilled seamstresses. To meet our high standards and to guarantee that every coat is 100% wind and water proof, every single seam is carefully sealed with tape. Finally, each coat is individually controlled, numbered and signed by the seamstress who has sewn it.

LY D I A Lydia is a luxurious rain cape made with inspiration from the Stockholm novel The Serious Game, Den allvarsamma leken, by Hjalmar Söderberg. A melancholic, beautiful romantic drama with Lydia Stille and Arvid Stjärnblom as the loving couple striving to create a life together. The Stutterheim rain cape Lydia is handmade with classic, iconic ambitions in a special waxed cotton fabric from a factory in northern Italy. It’s stunning we think. Simplistic, sleek and classic with a modern expression for the urban, melancholic woman. We love Lydia as much as Arvid did.
ARV I D Made with the utmost attention to material and detail in a classic cut inspired by Alexander’s granddad’s old city coat. This is the Stutterheim version of an all weather coat that can be worn both in heavy rain and on a sunny day. It’s made of a heavy-duty, specially waxed cotton fabric (the same as Lydia) and it has an exclusive cotton lining. Turn up the collar, embrace the moment of solitude while you are graced with the sparse light from a nearby lamppost and wait for your loved one. Your Lydia perhaps. If she doesn’t arrive you can walk away with pride, wearing the coolest raincoat around. Embracing inner and outer demons have never looked better.

KAPELLGRÄN D The Kapellgränd is a minimalistic trenchcoat in Scandinavian/Japanese style – almost as in a scene from Matrix or Blade Runner – developed in collaboration with Kumi Edström Kawaji, former chief designer at Yohji Yamamoto. Made for both men and women Kapellgränd is made of the finest waxed cotton from British Millerain. There is also a hat to go with the coat. Of course signed and numbered as well and with a very special story.
R AV LU N DA We found some really hardcore, super quality rubber boots from 1979 in a Swedish army depot. After thorough research we located one factory that matched the standards we set to re-make these rubber boots; less dry cracking plastic and more actual rubber that stays fresh and waterproof, handmade as far as possible, classic details and a comfy fit. It ended up with Stutterheim Rubber boots Ravlunda, the landscape in the south of Sweden where Alexander’s granddad did his military service. With canvas lining, retro yet urban chic style and numbered like the rest of our products. They are not cheap. But they are the best rubber boots you will ever find.
