Getting to Know Our Sponsoring The Weekly Newsletter of the Stuyvesant H.S. Key Club

Volume 9 Issue 7

December 3, 1999

Hey Key Clubbers As many of you may already know, the current cabinet consists of four seniors. That means that all of us will be graduating this year and no incumbents will be vying for cabinet positions in the March election. As a result, your chances of becoming a Key Club officer are greatly increased. Many of you have already expressed your interest to run for a position, but you still have plenty of time to decide whether to run or not (deadline is in February) . Just a lil food for thought, that’s all. Yours in caring service, The Key Club Cabinet

by Heather Chin The leaders of the Chinatown Kiwanis Club try to organize meetings every month. Since the Stuyvesant Key Club is sponsored by Kiwanis, we are often invited to attend. Well, on November 16, 1999, we went to one of their meetings. The meeting was held at 7 o’ clock in Sweet & Tart Restaurant on 20 Mott St. Chinatown Kiwanis President Amber Wong asked us to help run this meeting because it K-Family Month. Key Club Co-President Wai-Piing Chim was asked to officially call the meeting to order. Secretary Kenneth Fung then led the members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, after which I attempted to lead everyone in singing the first stanza of America. Finally, Co-President Alan Chu recited the invocation. With that completed, President Amber Wong welcomed guests of honor to the meeting: officers from the 5th Precint and other important Kiwanians. Thanks were also given to the immediate past president and his team. Then the main topics on the agenda were addressed. First, Kiwanis Treasurer Regina Tong made her report on the club’s finances. Second, the Kiwanians set the club goals for the year. The objectives included donating money to various charities and participating in various service projects. Afterwards, the Kiwanians participated in a survey in which we recorded the results. They concluded that Kiwanis needed to do more to help the kids of recent immigrant families. After all meeting was adjourned, dinner was served. The meal consisted of traditional Chinese dishes. The entire affair ended at 10 PM. All told, it was a great experience and I would encourage others to go in the future.

FYI: Heather celebrated her 15th Birthday on Wednesday,
