THE COMMITTEE COLUMN Month of September Volume I Issue I

Dear StuyKC Committee Chairs, I hope that you’ve all had an awesome summer and are ready for school again. A new school year brings new changes—and Stuyvesant Key Club is looking to do that. I will be releasing a monthly and/or bimonthly issue of The Committee Column as a resource for committee heads. This will inform you of what the cabinet has been doing and your goals for the month. I hope it will aid you in completing your duties. Feel free to contact me or any of the cabinet members if you ever have any questions. Yours in service, Bonnie Lee Vice President ‘12-’13 Stuyvesant Key Club

To the Committee Heads, Stuyvesant Key Club will be holding interest meetings on Tuesday September 18 and Friday September 21. As the committee chairs, it is expected that all of you attend. You should also know that as a member of Key Club International, you are required to pay $13 annual dues. If a club submits dues for a minimum of 15 people by November 1, 2012, it will receive an “Early Bird” patch. Treasurer Yee Gee will contact all the cabinet and committee heads soon so StuyKC can get it this year. More updates will be sent out by email. Yours, Stuyvesant Key Club Cabinet

Art Committee Advocacy Committee Your goal for the month of September is to find a long-term project that you would like to advocate for. This could be related to politics, business, or any largescale project you feel strongly about. Here is a sample advocacy letter from previous Advocacy members. If you need further assistance, click here for advocacy resources from the New York District Key Club (NYDKC), or email us.

In preparation of the Breast Cancer Walk coming up in October, the Art Committee is in charge of making a poster for the walkers to carry. The poster can be made in any way but preferably not printed—the Art Committee is about creativity. Also, the Fundraising Committee is currently planning a clay figurine fundraiser, so please contact Treasurer Yee Gee or the Fundraising committee heads. to help make the figurines. Lastly, I don’t want to put too much work on you, but start thinking about redecorating the bulletin board with PR Committee.

Fundraising Committee I know that the Fundraising Committee is currently working on a clay figurine fundraiser. The Art Committee will help you. However, the cabinet would also like you to begin planning a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Walk and/or Fall Rally, depending on our budget. If time and money allows only one fundraiser, do one for Fall Rally. Don’t forget that other than planning fundraisers, the Fundraising Committee also determines which causes/organizations the fundraisers are raising money for.

Locksmith Committee

Public Relations Committee

I know that there has been some trouble putting together a newsletter because of the lack of photographs from events. However, there can’t be no Locksmith issues. For this month, work with Editor Wallace to create one. There will be Old Business (installation of cabinet and committee heads, summer events) and New Business (interest meeting, upcoming events). The rest is up to you. If you need any photographs, email us at stuykc2011@gmail.com and tell us which events’ photographs you need. We will try our best to help you. Lastly, make sure that the newsletter follows the graphic standards of Key Club International.

A new school year means Stuyvesant Key Club will be having their first interest meeting soon. Please create some posters and have the designs completed by the second week of school. Since PR has a Facebook group, that would be a good place to share files. These two posters are examples from Key Club International. Remember, it is PR’s job to be enthusiastic about Key Club and spread the word. Other than that, you should begin thinking about redecorating the bulletin board—it’s getting a little outdated. The Art Committee will help you.

New Projects Committee For September, the cabinet does not have any special requirements for finding events. However, we would like you to plan a bonding event that Stuyvesant Key Club can do with the elderly and contact a nursery home at Chinatown where the event will take place. This project will be for the Governor’s Project “Keys to Accessibility” and/or a collaboration with our sponsoring Kiwanis, Chinatown Kiwanis.

Web/Video Committee The website is being started again almost from scratch, so I understand that the process may be slow. During this month, update the calendar with upcoming events. Also, find a place to display videos (may be on the website or a separate place).
