Our Uniformed Protective Services sits at the forefront of post-16 education for this curriculum in the region and showcases the passion we have for supporting our services.
Students are taught by teachers who have worked across a variety of professional services and utilise their background and experience to enhance students’ learning and progression opportunities.
Combining classroom and physical activities students develop a broad range of skills that enable them to progress on to University or employment in one of the protective services.
UNIFORMED PROTECTIVE SERVICES
LEVEL 3
The uniformed protective services sector is diverse and encompasses uniformed public services such as the police service, the fire and rescue service, the armed services and the prison service. These public services are organised and financed by the government to benefit society.
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of uniformed protective services topics, to prepare for a career in the uniformed protective services, or to progress to higher education.
Course duration:
Two years.
Entry requirements:
Five GCSEs at Grades 4 and above. Ideally including Maths or English GCSE at Grade 4 and above.
What students will learn:
• Citizenship and Diversity • Behaviour and Discipline • Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing
Teamwork, Leadership and Communication • Skills for Outdoor Activities • Global Affairs • Government and the Protective Services • Planning for and Responding to Emergency
Incidents • Expedition Skills • Developing Personal Fitness Programmes • Principles of Managing Security Threat • Research Skills • Professional Development
How will students learn:
A combination of theory and practical lessons. Practical lessons will include regular fitness training, military drill, personal leadership and teamwork tasks, and outdoor adventurous activities such as kayaking, orienteering, climbing, archery. The theory lessons will be used to further your knowledge of different topics and units.
Assessment:
Written exams and course work.
Student profile:
Physically active individual who likes the outdoors and working as a team and wants to secure a job in the uniformed protective services.
Enrichment opportunities:
Trips to army camps, camping trips, expeditions. New York City, NCS.
Progression routes: • Higher Education • Career in the Uniformed Protective Services

UNIFORMED PUBLIC SERVICES
LEVEL 2
The Level 2 Public Services qualifications are specifically targeted at level 2 learners who require stretch and challenge and they support progression to further education and study at a higher level or to further training.
Learners will develop sector specific knowledge, understanding and skills together with underpinning transferable skills that support progression to a range of level 3 qualifications and are suitable for learners aspiring to work in the public and protective services sector.
Course duration:
One year.
Entry requirements:
Minimum of five GCSEs at Grades 2 and 3.
What students will learn:
• Career Planning for the Public Services • Working in Public Services • Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services • Basic First Aid Principles • Development of Personal Fitness • Undertaking an Expedition
How students will learn:
Through a mixture of practical lessons on personal leadership and teamwork tasks, outdoor adventurous activities, fitness and military drill; and theory lessons to further develop knowledge and understanding of key public service topics.
Assessment: Coursework.
Student profile:
Someone who is happy to be physically active in outdoor activities, leadership and teamwork tasks, as well as fitness.
Enrichment opportunities:
NCS, guest speakers, regular military drill.
Possible combinations:
Level 2 Sport and repeat Maths and English GCSE.
