Performing Arts

Students with a creative flair can study our performing arts course alongside other curriculum areas.

This enables students who wish to develop their acting, dance and performing skills a curriculum they can study alongside other subjects.

Using our industry standard performance Theatre and specialist dance and rehearsal facilities, students benefit from learning in a realistic performing arts environment, one that celebrates talent and enhances your learning and creative experience.

PERFORMING ARTS

LEVEL 3 SINGLE

If you have an interest in the Performing Arts and wish to become a professional performer or work in the Performance Industry then this multi-disciplinary course is for you. This is a highly practical course in which you will study a variety of theatrical disciplines including acting, dance, musical theatre, devising shows, physical theatre and even circus skills.

You may already have a qualification in Drama, Music or Dance but this is NOT a requirement of the course. Whatever skills and experience you bring with you will be developed and improved through practical workshops and public performances.

The course suits dedicated and enthusiastic students with a genuine passion for performing. You will take part in regular classes where you will develop your core technique, applying your skills and analysing and evaluating your progress through logbooks and practice diaries.

The majority of your assessment will take place via the public performance of your work either in one of St Vincent’s dedicated theatre spaces or at other local professional venues.

You will learn how to research, develop and prepare roles for performance across a range of theatrical styles in a mixture of student and teacher led projects.

You will need to work consistently throughout the course in order to learn lines and choreography and the ability to work both independently and also be effective in a team is vital. These practical skills will be supported with a variety of theoretical lessons, theatre trips and workshops from visiting companies designed to expand and broaden your view of the Performing Arts. There is also an opportunity to collaborate with students from across other college courses such as Art, Photography, Graphics and Music.

Success on the Performing Arts course can lead to direct entry into the performing arts industry as an actor, dancer or singer but most students opt to go on to study at either university or in a specialist Dance/Drama school. Our extensive tutorial and support programme will help you with this process and as such currently 100% of our UCAS applicants for performance related courses successfully gained a place at university.

Entry requirements:

Five GCSEs at Grades 4 – 9. You will also participate in an audition process.

Possible combinations:

With two A-Levels or single BTECs in related subjects such as Music, Dance or Art.

Progression routes:

Higher Education for degree courses in Performing Arts. Specialist vocational courses.
