Rancho Cordova was a winner of the All-American City Award in 2010.
The land now known as Rancho Cordova was given to William Leidesdorff in 1844 as part of the Mexican Land Grant Rancho Rio de los Americanos.
Rancho Cordova received its name from Cordova Vineyards, which was located in the center of the Rancho Rio de los Americanos land grant. Although it’s been around since the Gold Rush, Rancho Cordova was incorporated as a city on July 1, 2003, becoming the 478th city in California.
Rancho Cordova was home to the first 12 miles of railroad in California.

Situated at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills, 20 miles east of downtown Sacramento and three miles south of Highway 50, the area gives off-roading vehicle fans a plethora of interesting trails and terrain, including grasslands, cobbled mine tailings, and rolling hills. The variety of terrain offers visitors the chance to spot a wide range of animal life, including deer, red tailed hawks and the occasional prairie falcon.

Also known as the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, the 32-mile path runs between Old Sacramento’s Discovery Park and Beal’s Point at Folsom Lake. The two-lane trail is entirely paved and includes mile markers, trailside maps, water fountains, restrooms and telephones. Although most of the path is flat and shaded, there are some areas of rolling terrain. Access points to the park or start include Hazel Avenue, Goethe Park or Discovery Park.
