SAVINGS GUIDE

R O C K L I N
What’s in a name? When it comes to picking one for your pet, there’s a lot on the line. WikiHow even has a sevenstep process to help owners decide (with amusing illustrations to boot). The option of going with a human name—like Lucy, Lola or Lloyd—remains increasingly popular, but can get awkward if your dog’s name is Kevin and you start dating an actual guy named Kevin. There’s the cliché, cutesy names like Spot, Spike, Fluffy or Fido, which work well—until “Be the person your cat named “Lucky” your dog thinks doesn’t make it to nine you are.” lives. And then there’s my —J.W. Stephens personal favorite—pets named after random foods that the animal might resemble or somehow be associated with (a chocolate lab named Nutella seems fitting, right?). My family’s animals were a mix of monikers; we had a Wiggles (mini rex rabbit), Forrest and Jenny (desert tortoises), Moe (German shepherd-lab mix) and Yawnie (Siberian cat), and—though my choices didn’t always win in the name game (my older siblings usually won that battle)—each one brought an abundance of joy and laughter to our lives, just as your own creatures clearly do for you. From the moment we put the call out asking for “People & Their Pets” submissions, the photos came pouring in.And while some of the names made me laugh a little (namely the cat named Mozzarella), it was the tales behind the tails that really had me feeling all fuzzy. It’s clear that our community is one pet-obsessed place. Not only are there heaps of parks and trails that welcome fur friends with open paws, but a plethora of Fido-friendly patios as well. Flip to page 37 to see a list of our favorites and to peruse the pictorial of our region’s hottest dogs and cutest cats. For those who aren’t pet people, fret not! We have plenty of other fun stuff in store. In The Hit List (page 54), we celebrate the region’s best BBQ with our roundup of the tastiest joints in town to get your meat on; and—when it’s time to detox after all that finger-lickin’ good fare—we have a “Juice Bar Roundup” (page 24) with what to order at each place. Don’t miss Kerrie L. Kelly’s tips to add a feminine flair to your space in Home Design (page 28) and Tara Mendanha’s rundown of “Prime Patios” in The 10 Spot (page 14). With each issue, it’s always my goal to make you “love where you live”—and discover a new local place to dine or shop—and I hope this month’s magazine is no different. If you find yourself soaking up the sun on one of our suggested patios or grabbing dinner at one of the featured restaurants in Eat & Drink, be sure to name-drop and say you read about them in Style. Cheers! — Megan megan@stylemg.com

Granite Bay resident Doyin Oluwole, MD, FRCP, still remembers watching her mother assist women in labor. As a nurse-midwife who ran a small hospital in Iwo, Nigeria, Oluwole would watch her mom every day, as she practiced medicine and ensured safe deliveries for mothers and their children. As she grew up, Oluwole was determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps—not only in becoming a doctor but in going above and beyond to care for others. “No one was turned away from my mother’s clinic because they couldn’t pay,” she recalls. After years of struggle, not to mention a lot of hard work, Oluwole became a physician in her own right. Her impressive resume includes doing clinical research on the main causes of death in children under the age of five at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in Nigeria, working tirelessly to support women’s and family health

Roseville Parks and Recreation by PAM ALLEN
A
s the city began budget preparations this spring for the next fiscal year (which begins this month), all City of Roseville General Fund departments (parks, recreation and libraries, police, fire, public works and development services) were asked to develop a net zero budget. The challenge of a flat budget is that they needed to reduce services to absorb increasing costs and unfunded mandates.
In addition, they were asked to make recommendations to help close the $2 million projected budget gap. Throughout the process, many scenarios were examined—all with the goal of balancing fiscal soundness and minimizing impacts to customers. In the end, the council approved the following reductions. • Lessen non-routine tree maintenance (anything outside of the regular pruning cycle of once every 6.5 years) • Eliminate goat grazing in General Fund areas • Close libraries and Maidu Museum and Historic Site on Fridays • Program reductions (one concert and some Town Square programs)
• Reduce digital library materials • Eliminate Fourth of July fireworks (beginning in 2018) • Outsource library phone customer service • Reduce help desk coverage at Riley Library • Eliminate childcare for fitness members • Eliminate two vacant positions
While the goal was to minimize customer impacts, there were changes to customer experiences and service levels, which will ultimately help toward providing services within the city’s means.

SEASON’S EATINGS: PlacerGROWN and Foothill Farmers’ Market by CAROL ARNOLD Nothing says summer quite like vine-ripened tomatoes, and now’s the time to find them at area farmers’ markets. The "fruit" comes in a multitude of shapes, sizes and colors—red, pink, yellow, orange/tangerine, green, purple, brown and black. Beefsteak and beefmaster are among the largest-sized varieties, Roma are more of an intermediate size, while cherry and grape are small and rounded. We’re also fortunate to have a large selection of heirloom tomatoes available, which tend to have a less uniform shape and can have beautiful variations of color, which add beauty and flavor to any summer table. What’s more, each variety is genetically unique, resistant to pests and diseases, and adapted to the specific growing conditions.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the appearance of scars? Fortunately, yes—there are several options available. Though difficult to treat, indentations can be filled, and the texture can be softened and thickened to feel more like your pre-scar skin. Bellafil—an FDAapproved filler for scar treatment—is a long-lasting option (five years). Lasers, and some radiofrequency fractional treatments, help the skin texture as well—and there are several options in this category. Essentially, one can think of scar tissue as Mother

Get the kids active and outdoors this summer! Rocklin has partnered with Skyhawks Sports Academy, National Academy of Athletics, and Vision Soccer Training to offer various sports programs. There’s also a junior sports academy where youngsters (ages 4-6) will build hand-eye coordination and motor skills while having fun playing flag football and capture the flag, and going through obstacles. rocklin.ca.us/recreation

culptor Jim Lee creates clay portraits and figures with incredible precision and emotion,
HLB: WHAT ABOUT THE HUMAN FORM CAPTIVATES YOU? JL: Its simplistic complexity. The human form is very lineal yet no one is perfect. All teaching is from a “rule of thumb” perspective (vertical, horizontal lines and triangles), [but] it’s the oddities that make us so different and beautiful.
in addition to offering workshops at his studio in Auburn. “Watching people’s expressions—who’ve never sculpted or even touched clay—[as they] create a human bust or torso is very rewarding.” His 20-hour, three-day workshops are taught in small groups, so he can provide hands-on coaching and detailed instruction. Sculpting Emotion

HLB: HOW HAVE YOU PROGRESSED IN YOUR ART? JL: I’ve drawn faces [for as long as] I can remember. As an adult, I tried sculpting faces out of wood only to find that if you make a mistake, [you] just keep digging. Years later, I came across an artist sculpting

clay masks at the Laguna Art Festival. The mask he was working on had one cheek lower than the other, and I watched with fascination as he simply reached down, grabbed a piece of clay and fixed the error—just like that! It triggered a five-alarm fire in my head. I went out the next day, bought 50 pounds of clay, and started sculpting. HLB: YOU EMPHASIZE STUDYING ANATOMY, BONE STRUCTURE, EMOTION, AGE, ETC. WHY ARE THESE KEY? JL: When I started sculpting, I did a lot without really knowing why; it was like drawing but in 3D. I was introduced to Larry Ortiz at Clay Arts Studio in Auburn who taught me a lot about clay. In my search to be a better sculptor (books, YouTube, Internet), I came across renowned sculptor Philippe Faraut from New York. His easy and fast teaching style with an emphasis on emotion and gesture was exactly what I needed. I bought his books, DVDs and tools, and eventually took classes from him in portrait and full figure. Both artists encouraged me to teach, [and said it] would make me better, but if I was going to do it, I had to know what’s under the skin to explain what happens with expression and why, as well as proper bone structure. I’ve spent countless hours learning anatomy and bone structure, and I’m still learning; the learning curve is endless. HLB: WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE AMBITIONS? JL: I got a fortune cookie years ago that read: “More art in your life will make you happy.” If I can share something that may last someone’s lifetime, that’s a good goal; watching a student tear up after they thought they couldn’t [do something] is another worthy one; making a complicated subject simple is good, too. The education of the human form is never-ending. My work improves every day that I improve. I’m always looking for more! jcleestudios.com

PCAR Foundation Investing in a Stronger Community
R
ealtors are notorious for being the people we trust when we’re making one of the biggest financial transactions of our lives —buying or selling a home—but few people know just how much these professionals also invest in our communities. “We live and work in these communities ourselves, so we have a direct interest in making them great places to live,” says Debbie Newton, president of the Placer County Association of REALTORS® (PCAR). “That includes supporting the charities and nonprofits that are serving all of us.” Since its founding in 1935, PCAR has been raising money to support local nonprofits, but in 2011 that community commitment was formalized with the creation of the PCAR Foundation, whose
mission is to provide support to local charities that offer food, clothing, shelter and mental health services. Since 2011 alone, they’ve donated more than $204,000 to organizations like the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Placer Food Bank, and Lighthouse Counseling and Family Resource Center, among others. This support is provided in the form of grants awarded through an application process in amounts ranging from $500-$5,000 (to apply, visit pcaor.com/ about/pcar-foundation). “Any organization that does work consistent with the foundation’s mission is welcome to apply,” Newton says. “While we can’t award grants to every applicant, we’re always looking to support groups that are helping to build a stronger community.” Funding for these grants comes from

several events held throughout the year, organized by various PCAR committees. The next event, Aloha Night, is organized by PCAR’s Young Professionals Network and scheduled for August 3 at Thunder Valley Casino Resort. It will be open to the public and feature food, live music and door prizes. In addition to grants, the foundation has also awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships to local students since its inception. Despite scholarships being a longtime goal of the group, as a trade association, they were restricted in how that could be done; overcoming those restrictions was one of the key reasons the foundation was formed. Any student residing in Placer County is eligible to apply for the grants, which are provided in $1,000 amounts. The process involves writing an essay describing “who they are,” their plans for higher education, and how the scholarship can help them achieve their goals. “We really want to get an understanding of their unique circumstances and their needs, as well as get a sense of their ambitions,” Newton s ay s. “ We ’ re o f t e n ve r y moved by the applications we receive, [which] explains why we often give out more scholarships than planned. This year we planned on awarding two, and instead awarded nine.” Of course, “anyone” can also contribute money to community needs, so it’s worth emphasizing that, in addition to this financial support, the members of PCAR also donate their time and expertise as volunteers for many of these same nonprofit groups. pcaor.com photo by DANTE FONTANA

hoever said feminine had to be light and bright should have considered bold, black and lots of movement! Our clients in Roseville had a new home on their hands, so to add a design kick, we sprinkled in
contrasting colors, metallic sheens and abstract art. The result? A fresh, feminine space that everyone can enjoy. Here are five simple ways you can get the look.
1
While we wanted to work with blush and gold as primary colors for this space, we knew we had to balance the cool, feminine tones with a bold hue for contrast. In the dining room, we splashed black paint on the walls to create a room that feels cozy and curated, then offset the darker color with hues of blush, ivory and gold. To do this in your own space, consider balancing darker, heavier furniture with light and bright accessories or art.

BE BOLD
EMBRACE TEXTURE Knowing that the home sits in a sunny spot, we opted to capitalize on the photos by BRIAN KELLOGG

natural light and fluidity of the floor plan with a balance of textures. In the living space, we set the scene with a blush and ivory rug underfoot, and added different metals, glass, natural fiber and wood. By mixing textures, we created an inviting scene that isn't too feminine or too dark. Spaces like the living room and bedroom are perfect areas to embrace texture; select a foundational piece (like a rug or large piece of furniture) and build around it, using natural textures like jute or wood with metallic hues like lacquered pots and vases, gilded furniture legs and flowy fabrics.
3
CONTRAST IS IN
We often refer to the striking juxtaposition of a bold color palette mixed with softer tones and materials, and it’s never been truer than in this home. Our clients wanted something fresh yet daring, and we wanted to make sure that, while adventurous, the décor was still anchored in timelessness. To do that, we selected high-contrast materials like gold, brushed bronze, glass and Lucite; though still neutral, they add an element of high shine to each room and allow the homeowners to play with the color combinations and style of each room without taking away from the original design.
5
LOCATIONS TO SERVE YOU!
LESS IS MORE
With a space featuring inky colors, soft textures and plenty of shine, it’s easy to get carried away with glamorous accessories and bold art. To let the home speak for itself, we chose to scale back on accessorizing and focus on the larger, more impactful furnishings like desks, bookshelves, rugs and tables. To accomplish this same approach in your home, find a room that feels a bit overdone and begin to edit—take a few books down from the shelf, pull elements that are too “out there,” and let the bold colors, abstract art and textures be the star of the show.
4
NOW SLEEP CENTER
MIX OLD AND NEW
While the color palette may be contemporary, the art and accessories anchoring this fresh, feminine home are a solid mix of traditional tastes and modern elements. In the study, for example, we floated a large desk with golden brackets and hardware, and a bookshelf to match Kerrie L. Kelly is an directly behind it. By combining old books interior designer who has created with shiny accessories, it adds the perfect several model homes in Northern mix of warmth and edge. Additionally, we California. See kept the focus modern while mixing in worn her latest set by Elliott Homes in elements like old typewriters, a metallic Roseville or online at ampersand, and beautifully sketched kerriekelly.com. artwork for a more authentic feel true to a classic study. Are you ready to get fresh and feminine? Incorporate these five simple steps in your next home project to make the look all your own!

She loves people—unless they stop petting her—and doesn’t like to be cold or wet. Last year she almost died when the vet couldn’t diagnose an illness she had, until they did exploratory surgery and discovered she had a ruptured gallbladder. Shadow, who is exactly the opposite of her sister, is 11 years old and thinks she’s still a puppy. She loves to swim and play ball and “talks” to all my visitors to tell them she needs a treat by pointing to the cookie jar with her nose. The vet said Shadow is on borrowed time, as she has a heart condition, but don’t tell her that—she’s happy as can be.—Tina Hagerman

Royal Siam
Thai Food Fit for a Queen By LORN RANDALL // Photos By DANTE FONTANA

n what has become the “world cuisine” corner of Rocklin—where within half a mile,
one can choose between Vietnamese, Italian, BBQ, Southern, Indian, American, Hawaiian, Mexican or Turkish fare—sits newly opened Royal Siam. The restaurant has filled the void for tasty Thai with an impressive array of familiar favorites, and a few surprises. I began with Shrimp in a Blanket, featuring deep-fried marinated shrimp in an egg roll wrapper with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Each bite delivered a nice crunch,

thanks to a not-overly battered coating that’s favored in many establishments. Next was the surprise: eggplant salad with shrimp— grilled eggplant, onion, fresh mint and cilantro, and plenty of large, succulent shrimp in a tantalizing lime dressing. Shrimp In a Blanket Pineapple Fried Rice The BBQ pork entrée was another surprise—not because it can’t be found on other Thai menus, but because of the chop’s quality, which was thicker and meatier than most. Reflecting on other Asian-style pork chops I’ve enjoyed (or not), these were far and away the best. Tender with a slight char, it was almost entirely devoid of the pervasive fat and gristle I’m often “treated” to. Served with a generous portion of steamed vegetables, it’s a perfect HOURS: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. (daily) entrée for people watching their carbs. For those with a need to feed their curry TRY THIS: Eggplant Salad, BBQ Pork, Pad Thai, craving, I recommend the green curry with Pineapple Fried Rice, Roti beef—medium heat at least! Strips of subtly spiced beef, sweet basil, bamboo shoots, ALCOHOL: Beer and wine eggplant and bell peppers, all soaking in a TAB: $$ soul-warming coconut milk broth, was Thai comfort food at its finest. Follow my lead and HEADS-UP: Catering available; lunch specials make it a kitchen sink affair by spooning the served Monday-Friday; spice levels can be customized; curry over a heaping portion of pineapple staff will happily fried rice. Fragrant with a touch of sweetness, accommodate allergies and dietary needs the symphony of rice, pineapple, cashews, raisins, carrots, chicken, onion and shrimp was satisfying solo, but adding the spicy BBQ Pork curry elevated it to another level. The large dining area features ample, comfortable seating, and the staff is pleasant and attentive. Come by and check out the new kid on the block—I’m betting Royal Siam you’ll make a new friend. 6815 Lonetree Boulevard, Suite 105, Rocklin, 916-899-6879, royalsiamrocklin.com

Firehouse Subs // I took one look at the Firehouse Hero specialty on Firehouse Subs’ menu and knew I had to try it. How could I not?
It looked like the ultimate sandwich, packed with roast beef, smoked turkey, Virginia honey ham, melted provolone, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. When I finally got my hands on the sandwich—along with a drink and glorious chocolate chip cookie that was part of the combo—it was everything I’d envisioned and more. The loaded sandwich was a great way to get my protein intake for the day—nay, week. Each meat shined on its own and wasn’t lost in a cacophony of flavors. The bread was warmed to have the perfect bite, and the mayo and mustard only added to the cohesiveness. I was tempted to try one of their hot sauces that are rated mild to hot, but thought I’d sauce out next time. And the pickle that came on the side? That was the icing on the cake (I might even prefer it to actual cake). I love coming here, mostly because of the stellar service, but also because a portion of my purchase goes to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which provides lifesaving equipment to first responders. They say they do it “all because at Firehouse Subs we believe that making great subs is not enough; you have to do good, too.” So far, so great. Bravo, Firehouse Subs! THE HIT LIST
6 Favorite BBQ Joints compiled by STYLE STAFFERS // photos by DANTE FONTANA
Whether it’s the sauce, the smoke or the sides, everyone (OK, everyone except your vegan friend) can appreciate a palatable plate of BBQ. But where should you venture for the best brisket and tangiest pulled pork in town? In no particular order…
“The BBQ beef ribs at Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que in Rocklin are big, meaty, gnaw-it-off-the-bone caveman-style ribs—in other words, mouthwatering. Each order comes with homemade biscuits and two sides; try the honey peanut coleslaw and creamy cheese grits, and thank me later.” lucillesbbq.com
“The secret is in the sauce at El Dorado Saloon and Grill. The recently revamped restaurant makes a memorable Santa Maria-style BBQ tri-tip (served with house-made chimichurri sauce) and offers a Saturday night baby back ribs special that’ll leave your inner carnivore utterly content.” eldoradosaloonandgrill.com

stylergbr.com // JULY 2017 //
“Back Forty Texas BBQ serves up a tantalizing variety of meats and other dishes that most typical BBQ joints don’t carry (Mesquite Crusted Atlantic Salmon, Texas Outlaw Burger, Pulled Pork Tacos), yet my favorite is the slow-smoked, lean brisket—a healthy-sized heap of tender, flavorful beef that I dip into their homemade hot BBQ sauce for a little kick. Their meals also come with cornbread, a banana loaf or fresh-baked mini-loaf, plus your choice of traditional fixin’s.” backfortyroseville.com
“Sierra Smokehouse BBQ in Cameron Park has a menu full of perfectly tender—not overly greasy— smoked meats, and their Sierra Gold mustard-based barbecue sauce is just one of the many ‘California twists’ on traditional fare. The mashed potatoes with gravy and creamy coleslaw are worth saving room for, too.” sierrasmokehousebbq.com
“Hog Wild Bar-B-Que in Placerville has bomb brisket and a great choice of simple but tasty sides. Co-owner Aaron is Texan born, so he brings a taste of his home state—think smoked meats and scratch-made sides and yeast rolls—into every plate, with a side of Southern hospitality to boot. Plus, the restaurant has a great, relaxed vibe and plenty of outdoor seating.” hogwildbar-b-que.com
“Boucanes Smokehouse in El Dorado Hills is the real deal Southern BBQ. My favorite is their just-saucyenough pulled pork sandwich, candied yams and collard greens. I always end my meal with one of their homemade desserts, too—pecan pie for the win!” boucanes.com

REVISION BREWING COMPANY’S NARLA BROWN ALE Revision is a new brewery located in Sparks, Nevada. Jeremy Warren, who founded Auburn’s beloved Knee Deep Brewing Company, is the brewmaster/CEO and one of the founders. Though specializing in hoppy IPAs and pale ales, their new brown ale—part of the Skunkwerks Experimental Series—is equally buzzworthy and perfect alongside slightly spicy dishes like this month’s Southwest Chilaquiles. The brew’s moderate hoppy flavor balances out the spice from the peppers and chiles, while the coffee undertones and notes of chocolate, caramel and citrus zest make it a perfect libation for breakfast. —Eden Tuscano, 36 Handles Restaurant & Pub

Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you? We each found photography individually as young women, found each other next, and then the business found us!
How are you involved with both the community and your customer? We volunteer weekly photography services for the Pit Bull Socialization and Obedience Crew (PBSOC) out of the Sacramento County Bradshaw Animal Shelter. We’re also active in the athletic community and take part several times a year in charitable runs. We meet so many clients organically through our various community ties.
Why is your staff the best in the business? When we started working professionally together we were young enough to prioritize a few things as cornerstones of our business: innovative and creative growth, integrity, and personal customer relations. All of our second shooters share this mind-set and creative eye; every photographer we work with is someone we would let shoot our own weddings (and have!).
Answers by Yvonne Mitchell Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you? My partner, Paul Kelly, and I saw a great need and missing piece in the spectrum of senior care. With a lifelong background in senior care, it only seemed natural that we start a business, so we opened Daycation. Our mission is to keep seniors home instead of going into an institution and give their caregivers a break.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer? We’re very active in our community and attend local events to talk about the benefits of senior day care. We’re also active members of the Rocklin and Roseville Chambers of Commerce.
Why is your staff the best in the business? We’re very choosy when we hire, making sure we employ CNAs who have experience with seniors and a great passion to serve them.
What’s your biggest job perk?
We have a soft spot for Jimboy’s Tacos…a very soft spot.
I feel very fortunate to work with seniors; they have so much to share and contribute, and I truly value their friendships, varying personalities, and the different histories they share. It’s a gift to be able to bring happiness and joy to their lives and gives me a sense of worthiness and great fulfillment. I also enjoy planning and doing activities with them—it’s like a year-round summer camp for aging seniors! Lastly, I love interacting with them and all our service/ enrichment animals (bearded dragon, fish, bunnies, pig, dogs and other visiting pets). So, in other words, I get to share my passions with seniors—arts, crafts, plants, music, socializing, science, games and exercise, to name a few.
What’s your favorite local event that you go to?
And finally, customer service is…?
Roseville Downtown Tuesday Nights.
Everything. Our goal is for every senior to have a great day—filled with friendships and fun. In addition, we want caregivers to have peace of mind that their loved ones are in good hands at a friendly, supervised place.
What life accomplishments are you most proud of? This might sound cliché, but we are most proud of our successful business and the relationship we have maintained as friends and business partners.
What’s your hidden talent? Getting real smiles out of kids and perked-up ears out of pups!
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
And finally, customer service is…? The foundation of any good business.
DO YOU KNOW THAT OUR EDITORIAL IS NOT PAID FOR, NOR CAN IT BE PURCHASED?
In fact, our Introducing and Eat & Drink section reviews are not paid advertisements. If you’d like your business profiled, please email Megan Wiskus at megan@stylemg.com. Once we determine when your business will be featured, we will contact you to schedule a time to come out and take a photograph. Thank you!

Paws-itive Parenting 6 Types of Pet Owners
by JULIE RYAN
clothes for your dog than I have for myself. You tell yourself your dog loves wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. They’re fine with it! That’s a smile on her sweet, furry face—not a grimace. She’s not embarrassed, she’s just shy. I have a friend who bought her dog goggles, so he wouldn’t get sand in his eyes while they were at the beach. Very thoughtful. I will admit, however, that I’ve dressed my cat, Agnes, up in a costume at one time or another.
3
The category above goes hand in hand with the carrytheir-pet-in-a-purse owner. No explanation needed, and no, I have not done this, but have you seen that commercial for the sweater that has a pouch on the front so you can carry your cat around like you’re a mama kangaroo? I’m a little tempted.
4
How about the I-have-more-pictures-of-my-petthan-I-have-of-my-family owner? I’m guilty of taking pictures of my cat. She’s adorable. Why wouldn’t I? Some friends of mine took that to another level. They took their dogs, all shih tzus, to a portrait studio in the mall and had group photos taken. I witnessed the whole thing and even have a photo to prove it. There’s nothing wrong with sharing your pet with the social media world—just don’t go crazy.
5
The exotic pet owner likes to be a little different. Sure, puppies are cute, but these people love their pythons. Try putting a sweater on him, though. I suppose it would be more like a tube top.
We all love our pets, whether they’re dogs, cats, hamsters or ducks, but not everyone shows their love in the same way. If you have a pet now or have had one in the past, you may relate to at least one of these types of pet owners. Or, like me, you could be a mix of several. Perhaps you’re the casual owner— one who has a dog or a cat but doesn’t do much else besides feed them and take them for their annual vet appointment. If so, your love is low-key. You don’t expect much from your pet. You’re roommates. Just so long as they don’t eat your yogurt without asking, everything is cool. Follow Julie on Instagram or Twitter You throw the occasional ball, buy the @julieryanhilton. occasional toy and let them sleep in your bed, but don’t believe in going overboard. WHAT’S COMING NEXT MONTH?
Don’t miss Style’s “Beer and Wine Lover’s Guide to the Region.”

There’s the dress-them-up-likepeople owner. Sweaters, boots, rain jackets, costumes. You have more
6
Lastly, there’s the fur baby owners. These are the people who think their pet is a human. Maybe they don’t have human children. Maybe their children are grown and live elsewhere. The fur babies have filled that void. If you love your pet and are kind and caring, I say go ahead and put a sparkly tutu on her and take pictures while carrying her around in your purse. I won’t judge! FOR MORE TOM’S TAKES, VISIT STYLERGBR.COM.
