The curtains are up, the music is playing, and one thing is for sure… it’s always a good time at the theatre when Shubshri Kandiah is on the stage.

Shubshri Kandiah is a Brisbane-based performer who launched her career by playing the role of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. But when the curtains went down, the magic certainly didn’t stop. Shubshri has recently landed the role of Cinderella in the Tony award-winning musical touring Australia this year.

It is no secret that Shubshri is a princess on stage, but off it, she’s a total rock star too. “What I love about Cinderella is the message of being enough just as you are, and the courage it takes to be kind which is beautifully told through Cinderella’s journey,” says Shubshri.

When Shubshri performed in her first ever production (in primary school) it was clear a career in the industry was meant for her. “I have loved being on stage ever since I was a child and grew up in a family that had a love for the arts and performing. I’m so lucky that I can now do that as my job,” says Shubshri.

Fast forward to 2022 and this Brissy local has performed in a handful of sought-after productions including Fangirls, Antigone, The Pearlfishers, 2019 NYE Variety Gala, and the Spirit of Christmas.

Shubshri is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University and holds a Bachelor of Musical Theatre. She has learnt that a little razzledazzle can go a long way – in fact, it has taken her across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Dubai.

There is simply no place like the theatre – the excitement, the artistry, and the community. Brisbane is lucky to be such a hub for talented creatives. Shubshri Kandiah proves that musical theatre is beyond captivating, it's magical.
