Podium Therapies
Cardiff's Leading Massage Specialist Led by GB Athlete Sheree Phelps
"13-year career in sport, competing worldwide at a Commonwealth and World Series level"
Meet former Commonwealth and Team GB athlete Sheree Phelps, who offers everything from a relaxing, more holistic massage to functional and fixing sports massage treatments; now the only qualified Clinical massage therapist based in Cardiff!
Based in Maindy, Sheree works from within the Cardiff personal training studio, where she offers a calm and tranquil treatment environment for people to
take a break from the everyday stresses of life.
Understanding what an athlete needs and wanting to recover quickly sets Podium Therapies above the rest. Being a clinical massage therapist means cutting-edge treatment techniques and modalities that are used for each unique and personalized treatment.
An award-winning clinic, having just won Sports Massage Clinic of the Year 2024 in the Prestige Business Awards, Sheree strives to offer the best and most upto-date research, knowledge,
and education for her clients to recover and help with rehab at home between treatments too.
As 2024 gets underway, Sheree is excited to offer clinical massage to her range of treatments, bridging the gap between sports massage and physiotherapy. Performing a range of orthopaedic diagnostic tests first and foremost, clinical massage can save the endless waiting on physiotherapy waiting times and get you on the road to recovery more quickly.
8 Style of the city
So, what does a clinical massage entail?
It is an in-depth treatment using a variety of orthopaedic testing for chronic pain or acute injuries, which is very similar to physiotherapists. This helps rule out and diagnose musculoskeletal pathologies such as frozen shoulder or joint sprains. Clinical massage can also help more systemic pathologies such as asthma and Parkinson's disease.
"Having had a 13-year career in sport, competing worldwide at a Commonwealth and World Series level, I understand how frustrating an injury or chronic pain can be. I appreciate how today, the levels of stress we are under from work life, family life, and societal pressures, most of us are living with elevated levels of anxiety. At the age of 25, I had a breakdown, and going through this has left me with a new outlook on life and empathy for my clients. It allows me to utilize the biopsychosocial model and look past "just" the injury and see how my client may respond to treatments. I have developed many different aspects of treatment and often give out "homework" to continue the treatment at home."
As part of a clinical massage treatment, it is not just the hands-on part that counts; the orthopaedic testing is paramount. Only then can a treatment plan be brought to life and personalized to the injury or pathology at hand. This and the rehabilitation programme have changed an average sports massage to an elevated elite clinical massage. Clients are given stretches and strength and conditioning plans
and often leave the clinic with foam rollers, resistance bands and other gym equipment to help them at home.
"Clinical massage is a treatment plan to fix. Often, I have had a massage, felt great, left, and had the same problem occur a few days or weeks later. I always found it hard to find a treatment that was right for me or in-depth enough to look at my lifestyle and look at my body as a whole. My desire to offer the highest level of massage in the UK makes me strive hard to give my clients the best possible treatment."
Sadly, many people have heard the phrase "harder is better" or "sports massage has to hurt."
This is NOT true and should not be the case. Often, this is because the therapist is not adequately trained or has an improper understanding of massage and the body. Using a mixture of Eastern and Western practices, clinical massage uses treatment modalities such as myofascial release, acupuncture, and hot stones, which are things that you do not associate with a typical sports massage.
Podium Therapies is here for everyone—from any walk of life, chronic pain condition, pathology, or injury. To relax, restore and renew - Sheree will look after you as a whole, treat you as an individual and most importantly, listen!
If you would like to book in with Sheree to relax and unwind or fix that niggle that has been nagging, head to www. podiumtherapies.co.uk and book online using SOTC10 for 10% off!

Whispers of Spring: A Celebration of Coloured Gemstones
In hazes of pastels and blooming colours, spring has sprung. Marking the end of dark evenings and the beginning of sunnier days. For many, the season stands as a refreshing and energising point of the year. Beginning a new cycle of growth in both nature and our personal lives. A motif most commonly linked to the season is that of florals. This relationship is so closely tied that these motifs are a classic symbol in the fashion industry of the turning of seasons. Like petals formed of rich colour, coloured gemstones are often thought of as one of the world’s greatest natural treasures. Joyous and playful, coloured gemstones bring an organic rebirth to wardrobes and elevate spring wear.
Linked to spiritual properties and new beginnings, each gemstone has its own individual rituals and significance. Keepers of nature’s beauty, humans have valued gemstones for over 10,000 years. Seen as integral to diverse cultures, representing symbols of power, protection, and connection with the divine. These organic minerals and materials are hard to define, with every stone honing its own personal colour, making no two articles the exact same. More than mere geological wonder, gemstones demonstrate neverending allure in jewellery and fashion.
Similar to the soft blush of the roses eager to bloom, morganites pink tones continue to charm.
Widely considered the gemstone of spring, aquamarine encapsulates the youthful energy of new beginnings. Its vivid and serene beauty rejuvenates, catching the colour of the sky and the sparkle of the sea. The birthstone of March is believed to represent happiness, hope and everlasting youth. Associated with the soothing energy of water, aquamarine was thought to be the treasure of the mermaids. From before 480BC, the gemstone was kept close to the heart of sailors, ensuring their safe return from the open water. Timeless and ever enchanting, aquamarine has garnered a reputation as a favourite amongst Royals.
Among the captivating colours of the season, the rich tones of amethyst mark those pure of spirit. Believed to bring the wearer purification and clarity. The gemstone is a marker of peace, emitting an endearing calm that washes over much like the dawn of the first day of spring. Its elegant lilac hues dance in the sunlight, the colour, a standout much like the stocks of lavender sprouting in the field. In ancient Egypt, the stone was viewed as a protector against harm. It was crafted into amulets and scarabs, protecting wearers from malevolent forces. From these first instances of amethyst being worn, its popularity and allure have only grown. The historical and cultural significance entwined in its makeup.
10 Style of the city
Similar to the soft blush of the roses eager to bloom, morganites pink tones continue to charm. The luscious colour captures the dusk of a warm spring evening. Morganite is often used to represent the innocence and sweetness of young romance. Its colour is delicate, the emerging pink tones are the image of new beginnings. Capturing the sentimentality of the season with grace and sophistication.
Intrinsically bold, yellow diamonds are custodians of the sun’s most beautiful rays. Much like the break of a new day, the yellow diamond signifies optimism and positive energy. Primarily sourced in South Africa, only 1 in 10,000 diamonds mined will be yellow. This extremely rare treasure is
coveted across the world not only for its lavish colour but its symbolism and meaning. Yellow diamonds reflect the wearers’ continued happiness and hopeful outlook.
With beauty unwavering and meanings so divine, coloured gemstones are consistent in their occurrence in culture and fashion. Like the flowers that grace the earth’s floor, gemstones are the best of organic beauty. Renowned jeweller Laings has treasured precious gemstones for over 180 years. The 2024 spring campaign’s imagery and ethos are rich in positive energy and renewal.
Showcasing the best of coloured gemstones, Laings emphasises traditional spring motifs with

Celebrating Welsh Excellence
When two creative visionaries come together, incredible things happen. For our founder, Rosie Harris, and TV presenter, Justine Jones, that's precisely what happened. Two Welsh women, both passionate about their careers: Justine Jones, a regular face on BBC Morning Live, had longed for the day that Wales could celebrate London style, an awards ceremony that genuinely meant something special for the businesses and people of our Welsh capital and
surrounding areas. For our founder, Rosie, an awards event as an extension of the Style of the City brand was a vision she had wanted to deliver for a long time. Over a coffee, one morning, the penny dropped for both. Realising their shared visions cemented an idea they knew could offer much-needed enthusiasm and recognition for the many local brands during these uncertain times.
Rosie and Justine share how their awards event will aim to capture the essence of all things Style and celebrate the brands and people of the city.

"Having lived in London for a long time, I have always been inspired by awards events such as Glamour Women of the Year and, of course, the Oscars"
Rosie, what made you decide to create the awards event with Justine?
I always say Justine is the glitz to my glam; we complement each other perfectly, the complete opposite, but our values and vision align so well there wasn't anyone else I would want to share this journey with. Justine is hardworking, and as a regular on TV, she understands the creative process so well; it helps that we are also good friends; we tend to do a lot of giggling!
Having lived in London for a long time, I have always been inspired by awards events such as Glamour Women of the Year and, of course, the Oscars. It was time for Wales to do something special, an awards ceremony representing excellence against a fresh and on-trend backdrop.
Justine, how do you feel about being part of the Style of the City Awards?
I am thrilled to be part of the event with Rosie and the team creating the awards ceremony; together, we aim to make something epic and memorable; it's definitely time to bring something unique to Cardiff. I travel all over the country for work, and to say I live in Cardiff and the Vale makes me so proud; working on these awards and celebrating others' success is something I'm so passionate about.

Rosie, tell us about the awards event; who will it recognise?
The awards will celebrate excellence in different business fields and recognise Welsh individuals who have achieved phenomenal success. We have a fantastic panel of judges, well-known faces who have achieved excellence in their own right and who will ultimately choose the winner from each category based on several factors. Nominees will be shortlisted and notified, and the next steps will be explained.
Justine, what can people expect from the evening?
Lots of fun! A sumptuous three-course meal, live entertainment and, of course, the awards ceremony itself. We also have many surprises and special guests, a true glitzy affair.
Rosie, Tell us more about the nominees.
We have shortlisted a selection of fantastic brands, each with the opportunity to showcase what makes them unique to our judges. Our panel of judges make the overall and final decision. Each judge will present the winner on the night, so expect lots of pictures!
Justine, where will the venue be held?
We've chosen the Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff Bay; we both fell in love with the venue's history, along with the incredible chandeliers and grand entrance. We are working with Wild n Fabulous Flowers, a local florist, to transform the venue into a glamorous wonderland.

Rosie, tell us about the award.
We are thrilled to be working with the jewellery brand Clogau, who are designing the awards. It was important to me that the awards are something the winner treasures, a true reflection of what the awards ceremony aims to represent, excellence and substance. Each award is designed with detail, with the winner's name beautifully engraved on it.
Working with Clogau has been incredible; a brand seeped into Welsh history itself, an honour to be working with them.
Style of the City Awards will be held on Thursday, December 12th, at the Coal Exchange Hotel Cardiff. For more information and to follow the journey of creating the awards ceremony, keep updated via our Instagram @styleofthecitymag

Cardiff Fashion Week is back!
The biggest event celebrating fashion design and retail in Wales is back – with Cardiff Fashion Week 2024 – ready to hit a runway near you.
An exciting lineup of events has been scheduled across the city for April 20-27. They include Wales's first-ever digital catwalk, a catwalk competition, fashion shows, a pop-up fashion village, and even a drag show to bring fashion lovers from across the country together.
One of the highlights of the celebration will be the fashion village and catwalk shows at Cardiff Masonic Hall on Saturday, 27 April, which will see a variety of independent designers, boutiques and brands showcasing their collections.
The event will support A-Sisterhood, a South Wales-based not-for-profit organisation that helps support, empower, and protect women worldwide. A-Sisterhood will distribute funds from the event to a number of female-related charities, including Cardiff Women’s Aid, which is dedicated to fighting for equality, ending violence against women and girls, and supporting those who experience it.
Other events in the week include a VIP launch celebrating Wales’s first digital catwalk in association with the fashion department at the University of South Wales; a catwalk competition to fundraise for Cardiff Fashion Week’s charitable
partner, A-Sisterhood; and a drag show to find the Welsh entry to the international drag event Queen of The Palace.
Cardiff Fashion Week is being organised by marketing and event management professionals Natalie Collins and Paula Abbandonato, who have more than 40 years of experience in the field.
Paula Abbandonato said: “Cardiff Fashion Week is a platform to celebrate all that is great about Welsh fashion retail and design. We’ll see a mix of aspiring designers and established professionals rub shoulders with educators, influencers and retailers.”
Natalie Collins added: "We are creating a very inclusive week for everyone who is interested in fashion and styling. We aim to become one
of the leading regional fashion weeks in the UK, providing Welsh design talent with a unique marketing opportunity on their doorstep."
Paula added: "This week will be buzzing with activity. It's important that fashion professionals have the opportunity to showcase their talents on their doorstep. We look forward to seeing what creatives in design and the supporting industries have to offer this year."
Natalie added: “Natalie added: "We have been overwhelmed with the support from fashion industry professionals in Wales. The response has been amazing, so we have an exciting lineup for the catwalk shows and fashion village. Tickets for the event are on sale now through the Cardiff Fashion Week website. VIP tickets are limited and expected to sell out quickly."

Morgan's Hair Loss Solutions & wigs
Hair loss? No problem We get familiar with Cardiff's newest hair loss solution provider and NHS wig supplier.
Morgan's is an NHS wig supplier for the whole of Wales and parts of England, providing essential support and guidance to individuals with hair loss, whether due to medical conditions, cancer treatments or unknown reasons. With salons in Prestatyn, Chester and Cardiff, Morgan's always strives to find new ways to help people across the UK, whether through pop-up services in more locations or pushing to become suppliers for even more hospitals in England and Wales.
Offering various hair loss solutions, including wigs, toppers, hair systems, and hair extensions, there is a solution for everyone at Morgan's. We help men, women, and children experiencing hair loss by working closely alongside the Little Princess Trust to provide free human hair wigs to young people. In addition, we work with various charities, including Hair Reborn, which allows us to provide three free haircuts to individuals as their hair grows back after chemotherapy.
We stock a wide range of haircare products, including Nioxin, a clinically proven range of products that use advanced technologies to create thicker and fuller-looking hair. We also source our own brand of high-quality hair and wig care products, which are Vegan, made in the UK, and sulphate/paraben-free to allow clients to care for their hair correctly. After an increase in human hair prices within the last few years, we have also worked hard to find a supplier for our own range
of affordable but high-quality human hair wigs. Most recently, we have opened a wig bank service, which has proven extremely popular and effective across all our locations and online. This service allows us to accept pre-loved wigs from people who no longer need them and give them a new lease of life before selling them for a fraction of the cost to people who cannot afford new wigs. Furthermore, a portion of our profits from this service is donated to our chosen charity, The Little Princess Trust.
We help men, women, and children experiencing hair loss by working closely alongside the Little Princess Trust
With hairdressing services offered across all three salons, our team uses their specialised knowledge to cater standard hairdressing services to those with thinning or fine hair. This includes using private, screened-off spaces to allow clients to feel comfortable and safe, as well as advising the best colours and cuts to maximise the hair they have. We are a supplier of Hairdreams Quikkie and Secret hair extensions, which are tailored towards discretely helping thicken hair and add volume specifically where needed.
HEAIR & BEAUTY 30 Style of the city
Here’s some questions we regularly get asked:
My hair is currently thinning on the top; what advice would you give me?
If this issue is new and you are actively losing hair, we suggest you initially see your GP. They may run some basic blood tests to check for any underlying health conditions that could be causing your hair loss. If these tests are clear, they may refer you to dermatology. Alternatively, if you are concerned about your hair loss and don't want to wait for the referral process through the NHS, you can see a Trichologist privately.
We suggest that people experiencing hair loss take a deeper look into their diet and start taking specific vitamins and supplements where necessary. These can include vitamin D, Zinc, Iron, etc. However, Zinc and Iron should always be taken at separate times of the day as they can interfere with each other if taken together. Another important factor we advise our clients on is their haircare routine. You should always shampoo your hair twice. The first wash removes any products and dirt that have built up on the surface of your hair, while the second wash deep cleans your scalp and hair. Your hair should literally be squeaky clean! Furthermore, it would help if you only were washing your hair once or twice a week; less is more.
In terms of solutions to cover and manage thinning hair, toppers are an amazing option which has become extremely popular in the last few years. They are small pieces that discretely clip onto the top of your hair to add volume. Coming in a range of shapes, sizes and colours, there is a topper to suit everyone.
How long does an average wig last?
A wig's life span greatly depends on how it is cared for and how often it is worn. Depending on these factors, it can range from three to ten months.
I'm worried that my wig may fall off in public, could you advise me on this?
The majority of wigs are not made to measure; they simply come in sizes such as average petite and large. Ensuring you have the correct wig size will hugely help you secure a fit. It is important to remember that different brands' sizes may vary slightly. We would always suggest that clients go into a wig salon and have a wig correctly fitted; however, if this is not possible, there are a few ways to make a wig more secure.
You can try a wig grip band, which goes around your head similarly to a headband under your wig and uses silicone to better secure the wig to your head. On the other hand, you can use wig tape or glue around the front and sides of your wig to secure it further. However, you need to remember that over time, wig tape and glue can cause damage and wear to the wig affecting its overall lifespan.

Spring Refresh with the Spectrum Girls!
Beauty columnists Sophie & Hannah (founders of Spectrum Collections) guides us through our must- have beauty buys this spring season.
Hi everyone, Spring is the perfect time of year for a refresh, whether that be your makeup, your wardrobe or just your routine; change is a great way to keep everything fresh and give you a boost after Winter; everything is starting to feel a bit brighter, and we love the brand-new feeling that Spring brings.
We've been thinking about how much a fresh makeup look can boost your confidence and how sometimes keeping it simple is best; every beauty routine is personal, but ultimately, we all want to look and feel like the best version of ourselves. Here's a simple routine with 6 brushes you can use daily
Start by prepping your skin; a fresh canvas is essential for a beautiful base, so never skip the moisturiser and always apply SPF under makeup. We love our Glowful Primer for hydration and glow, and a great everyday SPF is the Laroche-Posay factor 50 for oily skin like ours; it doesn't add any extra grease under foundation:
1 HEAIR & BEAUTY 32 Style of the city
Once you're prepped, you're ready for makeup. The critical thing to remember is whatever products you use, great brushes will give a professional finish. Whether you're applying an expensive or value formula, it's all about the application with a highquality brush.
We use Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter for a really dewy look or YSL touch éclat foundation for fuller coverage. Apply and blend with our C07 multi-complexion brush for a skin-like finish
A pop of colour always lifts your complexion; in Spring, we like a peachy flush and recommend Nudestix for easy application; blend upwards with our A32 blush for a natural glowing look. Alternatively, you can try a powder blush. We love Vieve Pesca, and our A32 works perfectly with cream or powder blush.
Use these six simple steps with just six brushes, and your beauty routine will feel fresh without the fuss. Easy application is all in the brush no matter what makeup you use.
Check out our new Brush Club 6-piece set, exclusively at Superdrug.
We like to brighten under the eyes with a lightweight concealer, cosmetics bye-bye undereye is recommended by our makeup artists' friends for its long-lasting coverage, and the texture is not too dry; it also has a great shade range for different skin tones. Or Maybelline eraser eye concealer is very easy to swipe over dark circles. Use our A19 precision concealer to apply and press the product into areas that need coverage.
A swipe of bronze in the right places can define your face without giving a harsh look; using a fluffy brush like our A04, you can sweep bronzer under cheekbones, along the jawline and across the forehead for a subtle contour. A fluffy brush will ensure you don't apply too much, but always tap off the excess and then build. We like REFY for cream bronze or Nars for powder.
Subtle eye makeup can finish a look without too much effort; use our B06 to sweep your favourite bronzer across lids for an easy but polished look, and then take our A17 to fill and define brows; you can also use this precision brush for an effortless winged eye, draw outwards from the corner of your eye with a pencil and use the brush to create definition. We like Makeup by Mario, soft brown pencils, and NYX eyebrow gel to create a bushy brow.

Clogau continues to blossom with a fresh look for spring
The British designer leads the way with a Spring & Summer ’24 launch showcasing the best in sustainable fine jewellery.
Spring is here, along with the return of colour and a sense of growth and renewal, and there’s no better time to refresh your look as the days get warmer and brighter. Welsh firm Clogau, which has boutiques across the Vale area, knows that quality jewellery can lift one's mood and outfit. Managing Director Ben Roberts explains the inspiration behind eight new Clogau collections designed to do just that.

We had the romantic idea of your special someone as the sun which rises in the morning, lighting your life and warming your heart. Our joyful Bore Da collection brings a sense of optimism and a renewed affection for your loved one.
Bore Da Nos Da
This sterling silver and white topaz collection is the quintessential summer jewellery. Wales is a country shaped by its coastline and blessed by the beautiful treasures found on its shores, and here we’ve recreated the shape of a conch shell which gently whispers the sounds of the sea when held to your ear.
Inspired by the baroque architecture found in storied palaces and stately homes, our ornate Filigree jewellery is a classic collection with a timeless aesthetic. We feel this jewellery brings a lovely touch of sophistication to a look.
Our contemporary Clogau® Connection jewellery symbolises unity and cherished attachments. The interlocking arches represent togetherness, and they are a beautiful tribute to love’s enduring bonds. The style is extremely modern and will appeal to a younger wearer.

Ti a Fi
This sterling silver counterpart to Bore Da has more of an evening feel, and depicts the moon and stars illuminating nights you wish would never end. The Nos Da collection has really captured our wearers’ imaginations, and it’s already among our best-sellers.
A romantic interpretation of the infinity symbol, our Tree of Life® Infinity collection features sweeping, sparkling curves of sterling silver and white topaz tipped with our signature leaf motif, signifying a love that will continue to grow for eternity.
The idea for our Enchanted Gateways collection came about after a visit to Portmeirion and the ornate ironwork there. We started thinking about palace gates and the whispered secrets passed between them, and the collection took shape from there. This is one of my favourites from the SS24 launch.
The concept behind Ti a Fi is a blissful romance that flourishes with a passion and only grows stronger with time. We’ve paired a stunning 50pt laboratory-grown diamond with aquamarine in a white gold setting to represent two soulmates drawn irresistibly together. Customers have been buying these as engagement rings, which is a wonderful idea that captures the spirit of the designs.

Bathrooms of Cowbridge
Planning for success: How to get your bathroom renovation off to a flying start!
Thinking of having your bathroom renovated but don't know where to start? Thanks to Bathrooms of Cowbridge, we have the answer!
The Style of the City team recently took a trip down to Cowbridge's High Street to pick the brains of the incredible designers at Bathrooms of Cowbridge about starting a renovation. Despite their phones ringing off the hook (due to their recent shortlisting for "New Bathroom Retailer of the Year" at the kbbReview's awards), the incredible team graciously sat down with us and gave their top tips to plan a renovation project successfully.
1. Evaluate your current bathroom layout.
Whilst many of you will be eager to jump into the aesthetics of your project, Bathrooms of Cowbridge cautions against doing this. Your bathrooms receive the most footfall in your home, so creating a functional space above anything else is essential.
Begin your renovation prep by assessing your bathroom's current layout and identify its strengths and weaknesses. Take time to carefully evaluate the whole space and your individual fixtures. Then think about how your door and window placements will affect your fixture placements - you won't want to place a walk-in shower in direct view of the window! When you know what doesn’t
work for the space, you can create a new layout that resolves these issues.
During this stage, You should also note how significant your layout changes are and consider the costs associated with it. Restructuring utilities can be expensive, so be sure to weigh the pros and cons of adjusting the layout of your bathroom.
42 Style of the city
2. Set a Budget
Establishing a realistic budget is essential for any renovation. A clear budget will streamline your decision-making and avoid overspending on your project.
You need to start budget planning by determining the difficulty of your renovation. Consider factors such as new fixtures, materials and the cost of labour. A quick Google search can give you an idea of how much materials and fixtures will likely cost. However, determining labour costs can be much trickier. Think about any structural changes you'd like to make to the room or the utilities. If there are significant changes, you will need to allocate more of your budget to cover labour costs.
Another fantastic tip is to allocate a part of your budget towards unforeseen expenses. A common problem in bathroom renovations is discovering previous issues, like corroded pipes. Unfortunately, these problems are only uncovered once work has already begun. However, if you prepare for unexpected expenses and factor them into your budget, you will be less likely to go over budget.
3. Create a Moodboard
A moodboard is a fantastic way to gather inspiration and present design ideas. Use social media platforms like Pinterest to instantly save the styles, colours, textures, tile patterns, brassware, fixtures and features you love most.
When it's time to speak to a bathroom designer, your moodboard will be your best friend. It will clearly articulate your design preferences to your designer - after all, a picture does say a thousand words!
4. List Essential Criteria for Bathroom
Write a list of features that you'd like for your new bathroom. These could be certain fixtures, such as a freestanding bathtub or a feature like underfloor
heating. You should then categorise all elements into 'must-haves' and 'nice to haves.' Differentiating between the two types of features will help you make important decisions when creating your final design and ensure you stay on budget.
5. Consult a Bathroom Designer & Installer
A successful bathroom renovation must be meticulously planned, which can be incredibly stressful. Consulting a bathroom designer, like Bathrooms of Cowbridge, can ease the process for you. They offer a comprehensive design and installation service, where they craft a bespoke bathroom tailored to your individual tastes, and then flawlessly bring it to life.
Get your renovation off to a flying start by contacting Bathrooms of Cowbridge. Schedule your FREE consultation by emailing s ales@bathroomsofcowbridge.com or calling their team directly on 01446 484333.

Siblings Expand Healthcare Group & Launch The Orthotix Clinic
The Cooper family have been in business since the inception of their founding company, Dacey Ltd, in 1972. The third generation of this remarkable family is now at the reins and flying the flag for Wales in the niche medical sector of orthotics.
Siblings Paul (42), Tom (40) and Hayley (38) have formed The PTH Group, which comprises of businesses: Dacey Orthotic Solutions, Orthotix, The Orthotix Clinic, Ace Feet In Motion, The
Healthcare Hub and Pathway Properties. The award-winning trio is expanding its multimillion-pound healthcare portfolio by embracing an omnichannel model, which includes manufacturing, healthcare provision, retail, e-commerce and real estate.
The latest addition to the group is ‘The Orthotix Clinic’, which is a Healthcare Professional clinic offering orthotic assessment, fitting and supply of marketleading supports, splints
and bracing whilst you wait. The walk-in clinic in Canton, Cardiff, is now open to the public Monday to Friday, providing NHS-approved solutions for common injuries and orthopaedic conditions, encompassing all body regions.
We caught up with the siblings to learn more about working in a family business.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING
60 Style of the city
Did you always think you’d go into the family business, and what’s it like working together?
From an early age, we all wanted to be involved in the business that we'd seen our grandfather run and eventually pass over to our father. Growing up, we were always around them at work, and even as children, we lived through the highs and lows of the business as part of our family life.
Employing over 125 staff across the group, there is an air of nepotism and an undeniable expectation to perform above and beyond your colleagues, but this serves as motivation for us and has contributed to the successes we’ve achieved to date. Achieving success together as a family unit in business is one of the most satisfying and rewarding feelings.
What's been your biggest learning curve in business so far?
I think the biggest learning curve for us has been introducing 'change' in the workplace and managing our workforce’s perception of it.
THE ORTHOTIX CLINIC
What are the benefits of working with your family?
We have unequivocal trust in each other, and the comfort that comes with this loyalty is so reassuring as you know that you are all working for the same common goal and in it together, come rain or shine.

Over the years, we've had to change our working practices and company policies and introduce technology across our operations to improve efficiencies and remain competitive in our marketplace. This has repeatedly been met with pockets of resistance amongst our workforce. Comments such as ‘but we’ve always done it this way’ have been muttered many times, but in the end, we think evolution, rather than revolution, is probably the best way forward in our sector.
Working alongside our father for the last twenty years, just as he worked alongside his father-in-law previously, has enabled us as a third-generation management team to gain a wealth of experience and invaluable business acumen that we would never have picked up on our own.
What’s next for the siblings in business?
The Orthotix Clinic and The Healthcare Hub businesses are our primary focus for the short to mid-term. Born out of the ever-growing demand from the public for improved access to niche healthcare products and services, it’s hoped that by expanding our brands across the counties of Wales, we can alleviate pressures on GPs and the NHS whilst supporting the wellbeing of local communities. theorthoclinic_

Rico ZulkarnainLove Live Light Healing Hub
Rico Zulkarnain, Former Welsh International & professional Futsal Player and co-founder of Love Live Light Healing Hub, is Style Of The City Magazine's new Health and Wellness columnist. Here, he shares his best tips and advice to give you your ultimate wellness fix.
Hey everyone, I'm super grateful to have been given this role. I aim to give you practical tips and wellness tools in each article so that you can easily implement them in your everyday lives. Let's kick things off with a staple of mine.
Activated Charcoal –The Ultimate Life Hack
Activated Charcoal is one of my non-negotiable supplements, and I take it every night without fail. I first came across the natural powers of AC during my time spent living in Bali. There's such a thing as 'Bali Belly' that every tourist/visitor gets whilst visiting. Basically, an upset stomach, which is usually caused by spicy foods or ice cubes in cold drinks served at bars/restaurants (avoid them if you can). It can last a day or two, even up to a week, but one thing the locals all prescribe is Activated Charcoal, aka burned coconut shells.
Is your stomach feeling bloated or irritated? AC will make you feel good. Food poisoning? AC will fix it. Too many drinks, or overindulging in unhealthy foods? AC will bring it all out of you. Quite literally. It acts like a manual reset button for whatever you put in your mouth. The ultimate life hack!
Key things to remember:
• It acts instantly, binding with whatever you've just eaten.
• It absorbs essential nutrients, so it's best taken away from food and any other supplements or medications you may be taking.
• It is one of the best binders for a parasite cleanse (more on parasites later)
HEALTH AND WELLBEING 64 Style of the city
My favourite way to consume Activated Charcoal is through capsule form. 2-3 caps before bed each night, giving you the perfect opportunity to wake up, go to the bathroom and start the day feeling light and fresh. The trusted brand I use is pictured above, and I am in no way affiliated with them. You can also get AC in powder form and add half a teaspoon of AC with a glass of sparkling water first thing in the morning. My tip: add a bit of agave to sweeten or organic lemon juice, which is incredibly refreshing.
We stock activated charcoal shots at the Love Live Light Healing Hub, which we advised visitors to use for our infrared sauna, as it acts as an incredible binder for any toxins released into the gut from the infrared light. We also have a new Activated Charcoal Latte coming to our menu. A must-try!

What's a Sunday morning without a dose of wellness?
Our founder, Rosie Harris, checked out a new Sunday movement happening in our capital.
An avid Sunday pyjama wearer, you will usually find me curled up on the sofa watching Netflix box sets, playing catch up on my emails, and generally shutting myself out from the world to recover. (Albeit making a Sunday lunch and ensuring my daughter isn't doing too much screen time). I use the word 'recover' as that's what my Sunday signifies; that was until I checked out OCB Aesthetics Sunday wellness sessions.
Wellness is something I am so very passionate about. With our Style of the City wellness seminars in full swing, I was excited to find out about a Sunday movement dedicated to getting you entirely focused on your health goals.
Sunday Recovery is a new, exciting event created by Dr Paul O'Connell and his wife, Namrata O'Connell-Bhatia.
The founders of OCB Aesthetics have used their health and wellness experience to create a safe space for those needing a start of the week 'pick me up'.
It's a chilly Sunday morning as I head to the Libertine on St Marys Street. The irony that my health fix was being started in a cocktail bar didn't pass me and only added more intrigue to this nonconventional backdrop.
Upon entering, it was clear why the venue had been chosen. Chic, classy and sophisticated, like an old-school speakeasy with an allure of exclusivity, surrounded by a group of like-minded individuals all ready to embark on their wellness goals. It also signified that wellbeing is a part of everyday life, so an IV Nutrition Therapy drip set amongst a backdrop of a glamorous cocktail bar is a reference to how far we have come in recognising the need for health to be part of everyday life.
After inspirational talks, health advice, lots of networking and a gorgeous goody bag to take away, I left Sunday Recovery wholly refreshed and invigorated; I highly recommend you try this Sunday club out for yourself.

Sobriety Saved my Life, Quite Literally
Businesswoman, influencer and all-round social media extraordinaire Jessie Hallett, shares with Style of the City her incredible journey to health and wellness
Hello, beautiful people!
I'm Jessie, I'm 28, and I am 17 months sober. To say I've had a transformative 18 months would be the understatement of the year…
Throughout my twenties, I took pride in being known as "the party girl" and embraced burning the candle at both ends. I was often found guzzling jaegers at 4 am in 10 Mill Lane or outside Dorothy's on Chippy Lane, waiting in the early hours for my cheese chips and gravy on any given day of the week.
I grew up working in hospitality, and those in the industry will know it is very much the norm to work an AFD (all f*cking day) and then wind down with 17 bevvies and no sleep. Or at least that's what I did anyway.
I was in this cycle for years; I was a young manager at 19 and have always had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I would be "out out" partying 4-5 times a week, and the days I wasn't out I was at home sinking a bottle
or two of New Zealand Sav Blanc. The home drinking escalated during Covid 19 when I was fresh out of a breakup, alone and miserable.
Then Beaujolais Day 2022 happened. I went out on my usual midweek bender, leaving the house at 2 pm and crawling into bed at 8 am the following morning. This wasn't unusual.
I woke up a few hours later, crippling anxiety, which often floored me. I distinctly remember laying in bed, looking out of my bedroom window and contemplating an exit strategy. The truth is, I hated who I was, drank to mask any feelings, and it was my version of self-harm.
Something had to change, or I wasn't going to make it til Christmas, that I was sure of. I made a promise to myself that I was going to try something different and cut out the booze. The first thing I did was declare my sobriety to my friends and family to keep me accountable - the lack of probing questions spoke volumes.
I had to quickly find other things to do, which is how I found cold water, swimming, and fitness. Like any exsesh head, I went completely the other way. I replaced my alcohol addiction with exercise, therapy, cold water swimming and a whole lot of healing.
I had no idea who I was without a drink in my hand, so going sober triggered a bit of an identity crisis. I had to re-learn about myself all over again. The sober me. The real me.
My morning routine is a massive part of my consistency and discipline. I wake at 5 am every morning, strength train six days a week with a PT, do hot/cold therapy and live a life I truly love.
I'm still me, but I'm the me that people want to hang out with in the light instead of hanging out within the dark.
I am now 17 months sober, have lost nearly five stone in weight, and am the happiest and healthiest I've ever been. My business has boomed since going sober, more of that here…. >

JESSIE HALLETT
JESSIE HALLETT SOCIAL
So you've met personal life, Jessie, now for business life, Jessie.
I am the proud owner of the Social Media company Jessie Hallett Social Ltd. I went self-employed after a series of unfortunate events left me no other option in early 2022 (presobriety).
I've always loved taking photos, always had a good eye for editing and was always that friend who took good pictures on a night out.
I had my first role in Social Media (part-time) in 2017. I managed the venue then and took on social media as part of the package. I was quickly head-hunted by the Head of Marketing who noticed my knack for it, and they asked if I'd like to run the socials for the entire group (24
sites at the time). Another hospitality company then poached me to be their full-time social media content creator, to which I bit their arm off. This was what I wanted to do - it was a real "I've made it" moment.
In early 2022, I was poached by another company in London to look after their socials, so I left my current job and had to have back surgery unexpectedly. Fresh out of the hospital I was then informed there was no longer a job for me.
After lots of tears, a few bottles of wine, and wondering how the hell I was going to make my next mortgage payment, I set up a website, posted on Linked In, and Jessie Hallett Social was born.
With my previous roles, I already had a pretty impressive client list and networked so much over the years that my name in the hospitality industry was a recognised one to some degree.
Within my first three months, I did social content for brands such as CocaCola, Schweppes, Tesco, and Madri - really big industry names!
I work with massive names such as Blake Lively's Betty Buzz brand in Wrexham and Louis Rees-Zammit's Savitar. I also look after Mimosa Rwm, founded by former Welsh International Alun Wyn Jones. I've now worked with over 100 brands (the majority in the hospitality sector) and have a roster of Social
Media Management clients on retainers all over the UK.
I am passionate about social media and content creation. I deliver bespoke content to brands from start-ups to multi-million pound companies, and no two days are the same for me.
There's no ceiling on how successful Jessie Hallett Social can be, and that excites me every day.

It’s Showtime! Royal Welsh Show 2024
The pinnacle event in the British agricultural calendar, the Royal Welsh Show takes place at the showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells from 22 - 25 July 2024.
Each year the Royal Welsh Show attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the heart of Mid-Wales to come together and celebrate the very best of Welsh and British agriculture. The Show is an action-packed four-day event of exciting competitions, livestock, forestry, crafts, countryside sports, shopping, food and drink, a 12-hour programme of non-stop entertainment, attractions, displays and much more.
As usual, there is a jam-packed schedule of livestock classes and special awards for a wide range of agricultural and rural competitions, attracting entries from far and wide of those competitors hoping to go home with a much-coveted Royal Welsh rosette.
Along with the fantastic livestock, the Royal Welsh Show provides something to interest everyone with a wide range of displays and attractions. Returning for the first time since 2010, the JCB Dancing Diggers will join us in our
iconic Main Ring, along with a Heavy Horse musical display and a special celebration of Welsh agriculture performance.
More highlights in the Main Ring will include The Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh, one of the very few all-brass bands within British Army Music, and The RAF Falcons, the UK’s premier military parachute display team, with their exciting free fall display at speeds up to 120mph.
Also returning to entertain the crowds will be Tristar Carriage Driving, Meirion Owen and His Sheepdogs, Inter Hunt Relay and much more.
New for 2024, we will be launching our Horticulture Village, celebrating all aspects of horticulture in Wales – from community to commercial growing, competitive showing and displays, alongside promoting the health and social benefits of gardening, education and building a resilient supply chain of sustainable Welsh produce.
The Food Hall will once again be a hive of culinary activity, showcasing the very best produce that Wales has to offer. After the successful launch of the brand-new Welsh Food Village last year, Gwledd | Feast will feature an array of delicious food and drink options, along with a live music stage and seating to relax and soak up the atmosphere. A wide range of companies will take part in the Royal Welsh food showcase, creating a real microcosm of the Welsh food and drink industry from savoury delights to sweet treats.

glass of fizz or a coffee, we take the time to get to know them and craft their perfect holiday, whether it's a relaxing beach retreat in Mauritius or an adventurous road trip across Australia. Some of our top-selling destinations include the Maldives, Thailand, Africa and the Caribbean.
Over the years, we've developed fantastic relationships with our clients, leading to many returning to book with us year after year. It's not uncommon for clients to make a special journey to Cardiff to plan their holiday with us, with some travelling from as far as West Wales.

Barry Island Spirits Co is a small, family-run independent spirits business specialising in creating premium, small-batch spirits blended with the purest Welsh water gravitated from the Brecon Beacons.
At the heart of Barry Island Spirits Co are Tim and Claire Whalley, a husband-and-wife team who pour their passion and love for their craft into every bottle. They focus on creating high-quality, naturally great-tasting spirits that are versatile enough to be sipped neat but with a mixer or used in cocktails. The couple draws inspiration for their recipes from the rich history and the breathtaking natural environment around their home on the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan coastline.
With three Great Taste Awards and three Gin Guide awards across the range, this relatively new, small Welsh business has been making some big waves. Barry Island Welsh Dry Gin has been stocked by Heston Blumenthal's Michelin-starred restaurant, The Hinds Head in Bray, and has been spotted in The Body Coach Joe Wick's home bar. Barry Island Rum was featured on ITV's Love Your Weekend in October.
The Barry Island Spirits Co range consists of Barry Island Welsh Dry Gin, Barry Island Botanical Spiced Rum, Barry Island Organic Welsh Vodka and Barry Island Pink Dry Gin. Bottles are available to buy online at www. BarryIslandSpirits.co, from Barry Island Spirits Co's shop on High Street in Barry or from some independent retailers.
