CLEARWATER PARADE An exciting expansion has come to Lakeside

new beginning is among us, as Lakeside Shopping Parade in Cyncoed welcomes new businesses to the area. Waterloo Tea has gained new neighbours, as Cardiff Dough & Co, The A Elephants Ear, Wing Stack, The Dropbar Workshop and the Indie Superstore have opened at the development. This expansion aims to help support local businesses in the area. The community of Cyncoed will now be able to indulge in sweet treats, buy urban jungle-inspired plants, experience an independent market, which offers vintage clothing and arts & crafts, and access to bicycle maintenance, craft beers, fine wines and good food. As a member of the Welsh Independent Restaurants Collective, Kasim Ali feels that such initiatives can play a crucial role in allowing new startups to test their concepts before they commit capital into longer-term projects. “The launch of the new concept has added vitality and zest to the area and we hope that the nearby residents will appreciate what has now been created on their doorstep. I hope that we can use this as a model for other areas also, and help re-address the balance between national chains and locally owned businesses. The impact of local businesses on our economy is huge and we should support the shorter supply chains as much as possible. Credit needs to be given to the landlord - Silver Crescent Developments and also Shaz Haris who has orchestrated the renewal of the parade.” Many know entrepreneur Shaz Haris who co-founded the Corporation Yard in Canton. He is also the architect in leasing out the businesses that will now complement the area of Cyncoed. Funding is needed for the Moving Around Safely App, which aims to help locate your nearest defibrillator.

Maxine Ah-Mun hopes to develop the Moving Around Safely App, in honour of her son, Mason, who sadly passed away at the beginning of this year from Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome. She writes an open letter in hope to receive funding for the development of the Moving Around Safely App.

Dear all, 2020 has been a difficult year for all, but it has been a devastating year for me and my family as we lost my 21-year-old son to Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome, known as SADS. What is SADS? It is when somebody dies suddenly following cardiac arrest and no obvious cause can be found. This affects around 500 people a year, leaving families broken and devastated. I have a lot of heart-related problems on my side of the family but I didn’t know I needed to get my children checked or even myself. If you’re reading this, please take one piece of advice from me, look into this if there are heart problems in your family history! If you know there have been several heart-related illnesses within your family, please speak to your local GP to see if you or a family member can have the appropriate tests completed to ensure the safety of you or your loved ones. On March 11th, 2020 my son left this earth and became an angel, six days later the first lockdown hit the UK and the world began to change for the worse. During my grief, I remembered my son Mason always told me he was going to develop an App, so I thought I would do this in honour of him and keep his name alive via an App I called Moving Around Safely, in short, MAS App. MAS App The app is about equality for all people when locating businesses from shops, restaurants, to gaining legal advice and councils. It will allow the user to know that the business will treat them fairly no matter of race, religion, gender, disability, or sexual orientation. The main feature of this app will allow users to locate the nearest defibrillators, to prevent more tragic situations from happening. So many people do not know where to go should they need a defibrillator, and as we know, time is of the essence when these tragic situations happen. We have roughly a 15-minute window to locate and use defibrillators. I feel if we can source the defibrillators quickly via an app this will help reduce other deaths. We aim to try and help others, so they don’t have to go through this truly heart-wrenching experience. When the app is live, I am looking to purchasing more defibrillators in my son’s name to spread across Wales and the whole of the UK, by working with local organisations. MAS App will also have a Facebook and Instagram page, we would appreciate it if you could follow us. This is a FREE app for both businesses and consumers to use. It rates companies and can potentially save lives with the defibrillators locations added. MAS Apps ethos is “Be You, Be free, Stay Safe, Saving Lives”.
