There have been countless times when I’m getting ready in the morning with my phone in hand and Accuweather constantly refreshing. But no matter what I do, I have never grasped the concept of dressing for the weather! It’s just not my greatest strong suit. Since then, I’ve decided it was easier to repurpose my summer pieces. Kind of like reverse psychology, where you switch the rules on yourself. If you can’t dress for winter weather, then you may as well dress for summer, right? Well for those who suffer from the same dilemma, here’s a look that is sure to keep you fashionable and warm.
THE DARK SIDE My best kept secret to repurposing a maxi skirt is through wearing a two-layered skirt. The inner layer is usually the thickest and the outer can be pleated, sheer, opaque or whatever suits you. The outer layer is what gives your look more character, because without it, it would look bland and too minimal. Despite having the flowy outer layer of the maxi, I still wanted to stick with a neutral palette in order to have the chance for the mustard yellow clutch to pop. I’ve seen many oversized blazers with deep necklines on the runway lately. So in order to pull that off, I paired the skirt with a simple black chelsea boot, but most of all, a long blazer that compliments the elongating affect which the skirt creates. Light and dark colors are ironically harmonious, therefore I placed a lilac sweater beneath the blazer. Lastly, to top off the look, I always like to add a bit of richness to fall looks with a beautiful vintage-inspired brooch.
