SUBARU DYNAMIC CHASSIS CONTROL CONCEPT Legacy elevates the inherent advantages of its signature Subaru layout-balance, composure and response — with the Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (DC 3). The body uses hightensile steel in critical areas to achieve high strength and light weight. A highly rigid Cradle Mount front-end structure delivers an accurate, natural steering feel while allowing the engine and suspension to be effectively isolated from the cabin for a smoother, quieter ride. FRONT SUSPENSION Legacy’s strut type front suspension features a highly rigid Cradle Mount System, a wide tread and long wheel travel. Together they deliver flatter cornering as well as a quieter, more comfortable ride over a variety of road surfaces.

It’s paired with an AWD system utilizing a centre differential with viscous LSD (Limited Slip Differential). If wheel speed differs between the front and rear axles, the system helps distribute power to the wheels with the most traction. The 6-speed offers smoother, more precise shifting, along with the compact size and light weight that add to Legacy’s sporty feel.

5-Speed Automatic Transmission + Variable Torque Distribution Awd Legacy 3.6R models are equipped with a refined 5EAT automatic transmission paired with Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) AWD. VTD instantaneously distributes the engine’s torque to all four wheels with a slight rear wheel bias for enhanced handling, superior trac tion and s tabilit y. The elec tronic ally controlled 5 -speed transmission features driver-adaptive shifting, blipping control for quicker, smoother downshifts, and manual-style control via paddle shifters.

Lineartronic® CVT + Active Torque Split Awd For instant, seamless response to changing conditions, the Legacy 2.5i model is available with Lineartronic® CVT, a Continuously Variable Transmission that uses a chain instead of a belt—allowing a greater span of overall ratios for improved performance and efficiency as well as a faster response to your throttle input. It’s longitudinally paired with an active torque-split AWD system that responds to traction conditions, the transmission and driver inputs by continuously controlling the torque distribution front to rear. Paddle shifters also provide a six-step manual mode for quick response on demand.

VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL SYSTEM

BRAKING SYSTEM

Standard in every Legacy, Vehicle Dynamics Control monitors and analyzes if the vehicle is following the driver’s intended course via an array of sensors. If the vehicle approaches the limits of stability, the AWD torque distribution, engine output and brakes at each wheel are adjusted to assist in keeping the vehicle on course.

The standard 4-wheel disc brakes feature lightweight aluminum rear calipers and a strong, reassuring brake feel. The Antilock Braking System (ABS) includes Electronic Brake-force Distribution, to reapportion front/rear braking pressure when the vehicle is loaded. Brake Assist provides greater force in sudden braking even if the driver doesn’t brake hard enough. And Subaru’s Hill Holder helps prevent rollback when starting off on a five percent or steeper grade, by applying the electronic parking brake and automatically releasing it once you’re underway.

A deeper sense of safety. What’s inside: Legacy’s smart construction is partnered by advanced technologies to deliver substantial protection upon impact. What it does: In the unfortunate situation that a crash is inevitable, you always know you and your passengers are in capable hands.

Passive Safety, To Better Survive A Collision

Pedestrian Protection

At Subaru, there is never an end to the pursuit of safety. We set high standards, constantly enhancing the Legacy’s features to be designed with occupant protection as a high priority. Its body structure is intelligently strengthened in critical areas to help minimize the impact energies that reach the cabin. Front SRS1 airbags, front and rear-side curtain SRS1 airbags, side-seat airbags, whiplash-reducing front seats, and 3-point seatbelts all around help protect occupants.

Legac y was designed with the objec tive of providing a high level of pedestrian protection. Shock-absorbing space between the head and engine helps to reduce pedestrian injury in an accident, as do an energy-absorbing front bumper and a specially designed area around the windshield wipers.

Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frames The Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame strengthens the passenger cabin from the roof to the doors, pillars and floor. This design helps divert and dissipate impact energy from the occupants in a collision. The front crumple zone is integral to the frame.

Seats, Seatbelts And Srs1 Airbags Standard on every Legacy are front SRS1 airbags, plus front-side and curtain SRS1 airbags. Height-adjustable front seatbelts feature pretensioners to hold passengers firmly in place, and load limiters that ease peak forces to the chest. In a rear collision, front seats utilize rigid frames, firm headrests and such details as energy-absorbing mounting of the inner seat springs, all to help reduce the chance of whiplash.

Break Away Engine Every Subaru goes above and beyond common practice when it comes to your safety. In the event of a head-on collision, your Legacy’s SUBARU BOXER® engine and gearbox are driven under the front seat occupants away from the cabin for your protection.

The Navigation System incorporates a vivid voiceactivated 7-inch high-resolution touch-screen GPS. Legacy’s roomy trunk features non-intruding hinges, and unlocks electronically via a button in the cabin or on the remote key. And there is also a sub-trunk concealed under the carpeted floor.

Thoughtful engineering is evident throughout the spacious cabin of the Legacy. A roomy console includes a 12-volt power port and padded armrest lid. There is also a pocket in the front passenger seatback, four cup holders, generous front and rear door pockets, each with its own bottle holder. The Legacy also includes a trunk pass-through in the rear centre armrest.

With the help of Pre-Collision Braking, should a driver ahead of you unexpectedly hit their brakes or cut you off, EyeSight™ will warn you, apply the brakes to help you slow your Legacy, and at lower speeds can even help you stop.

In the event that you accidentally drift your Legacy to the edge of your lane and begin to cross into another, EyeSight’s™ Lane Departure and Sway Warning features watch for clearly marked lane markers and deliver a chime to warn you.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management

Adaptive Cruise Control

With the Pre-Collision Throttle Management feature, EyeSight™ will help minimize or assist you in avoiding impact with large objects in front of your Legacy by preventing acceleration, even when the accelerator is fully applied. It can also help to reduce impacts in situations when “Drive” is accidentally selected instead of “Reverse” by cutting power if it sees an object in your path.

Traffic doesn’t always flow, but with EyeSight’s™ Adaptive Cruise Control feature, you not only can keep your Legacy at a set speed, but you can also look ahead and help keep your speed automatically adjusted so that your Legacy maintains a safe distance from the car ahead of you. It even has the ability to bring your Legacy to a complete stop and then resume moving when traffic has begun moving again. 17

Emission Control System Limited Warranty — Covers the majority of emissions components for 36 months or 60,000 km and the major parts of the emission control system for 96 months or 130,000 km. Parts and Accessories Limited Warranty — Covers Subaru parts and accessories installed by the dealer prior to retail delivery of the vehicle for 36 months or 60,000 km, and Subaru parts and accessories installed by the dealer after the retail delivery of the vehicle for 12 months or 20,000 km from the date of the installation.
