TOTAL GAMES

The last 18 months have been very exciting for the Board of Directors at the Subiaco Football Club, and I am honoured to be able to share some insight into what we have been focusing on as part of the Strategy and Governance portfolio. Following the turbulence of 2020, our focus is to continue to accelerate the vision of the Subiaco Football Club, while ensuring that we have the right governance and foundations in place. Before anything else, our priority remains to run a financially sustainable football Club that will allow us to deliver on field success, as well as relevance and connection in the community.

CREATING A CLEAR VISION FOR THE CLUB

2021 will see us in the third year of executing on our five year strategic plan. This plan, which continues to evolve, sees us focus on sustainability, community engagement, football excellence, governance and values & culture. As we look forward into 2022 we are doubling down our efforts. We understand that what has led us to our current position will not necessarily see us maintain it. We are incredibly excited by the outlook for next year and beyond, as we believe there are many opportunities for us to continue to identify new ways to grow the Club and continue our sustained success. Our goal is to ensure we are evolving beyond the traditional revenue streams and continue to push into innovative ways to run the business. We also understand that to execute on our strategic vision we need a strong foundation and clear governance framework. This year, we have had a laser focus on identifying ways we can improve the football Club at all levels. This has seen us align and adopt the Australian Sport Commission governance framework, which is a best practice initiative for sporting Clubs throughout Australia.

As with any football Club or business, having the right people in the right places is paramount to our success. To achieve this, we are also continually identifying talent inside and outside of the football Club that will be able to support the work that the board does. This has seen the evolution of a number of our operating portfolios as well as new people appointed to strengthen what we do.

WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE WAFC

With the appointment of the new executive team at the West Australian Football Commission, we have had the opportunity Russell Smith to participate in a number of feedback forums to help shape the future of the WAFL. As a Football Club, we are committed to continually working closely with the football commission to advance the competition. We believe that there is continued opportunity to be a leader in this space, and drive innovation as well as new and improved ways to do business.

THANK YOU

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow board members and the administration of the Football Club for their commitment to developing and executing on our strategic vision. We firmly believe that the strength of the administration and operations is something that must remain a priority to continue to help deliver the on-field success that we have been so fortunate to achieve over the past era. Congratulations to Beau and Leigh on another fantastic onfield effort. You continually drive this football Club to a level of excellence and expectation that is unsurpassed in our competition. Finally, thanks again to all of our members and supporters of this great Football Club. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you. See you at WAFL next year.
