CLUB HERITAGE COMMITTEE

What a difference 2021 was to the previous. We had a full season of football, however still had to cancel some meetings due to COVID restrictions.

We had a varied array of speakers during the year including Club President Mark Lawrence, Coach Beau Wardman, Football Operations Kristian Dicton, Talent Manager Stuart Berryman, Marc Webb and Darren Rumble, Subiaco CEO Peter Capes also came to our midyear meeting to inform us about interesting areas of the Club. Special thanks to McKenzie Sheppard Bar & Function Manager, Zac Acott and Teigan Freeman for their assistance throughout the year. One again we enjoyed the company of the Ladies Forum. They amalgamated with Golds to become Golds Ladies under their President Dee Kitson. We enjoyed a variety of meals at our monthly meetings. A great arrangement to combine both groups. Frits Vanirsen did a great job in organising the invitation to players to come along to our monthly meetings. He concentrated in endeavouring to getting along new players so they could get an understanding of what Golds do around the Club. We were also enjoyed the company of players who won our monthly awards, Greg Clark April/May, May/June, June/July and Leigh Kitchin August/September. The Golds Player of the Year was Greg Clark. After 2020 season being cancelled, I travelled to Kalgoorlie for the 2021 GFL’s grand finals, League between Kalgoorlie City and Boulder City with the result going to Kalgoorlie City 14-5 to Boulder City 13-6. We presented the Subiaco Golds Medal for the Best Player in the League Grand Final to Jack Dasborough of Kalgoorlie City Football Club. Our thanks go to Goldfields Football League for the way they looked after us again. My thanks go to the committee members of Golds for their help during the year. Special thanks to BBQ Specialist Michael Bailey who unfortunately was a sad loss to all prior to Grand Final. Special thanks go to the TRG for their assistance in setting up on the day of our meetings. Lotto Super numbers is our major fund raiser and to all who supported this, our grateful thanks. We were able to sell-out both series of super sixty-six which enable us to award monthly and Golds player of the year. Thanks also to all those members who donated raffle prizes for our Dinner Meetings. Subiaco Golds congratulate Beau Wardman, the assistant Coaches and to the Players for their tremendous Finals campaign and overcoming all teams to win the 2021 WAFL Grand Final. To all at Subiaco Football Club, the committee and members of Golds I extend my thanks for their support and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a successful New Year. It was with great sorrow we, the Ladies Forum, had to choose to no longer function as a separate coterie group of Subiaco Football Club this year. Whilst we are excited about the future and all we can contribute to the Club under the umbrella of the Gold’s, there is sadness at losing something we were all so proud of. With only eight members left, the burden of fundraising and supporting the Colt’s in ways we have always supported them became too much. As a sub-committee of the Gold’s, we have been able to continue to provide support to the Colts football players to achieve their football aspirations by fundraising for the player’s Scholarship and Welfare Fund and awarding Jake South as the most consistent player in 2021 at the Taylor Medal. We continue to promote friendship and involvement among the ladies at the Subiaco Football Club and have become a sub-committee known as Gold’s Ladies. I am honoured to be the first female to join the Gold’s Committee this year as a representative of the Gold’s Ladies. Whilst the season has had some interruptions due to the pandemic, we have all enjoyed meeting most first Tuesdays of the month this year. A particular highlight was the Christmas in July celebration, which was held in August. Sadly, the Gold’s lost Michael Bailey in September and he will be greatly missed by all Gold’s Ladies, especially the barbecues he expertly cooked and the yearly “mystery meals” he helped to plan and create. Thank you to all the members of the Gold’s for making the Gold’s Ladies feel so welcome and included. We look forward to a long and prosperous association. Lastly, congratulations to the players, coaches, and support staff of the League team on being the 2021 Premiership winners and to Greg Clark on being named the Simpson Medallist. Condolences to the Reserves team whom narrowly lost their grand final to Perth Football Club. Looking forward to another successful year in 2022. Best wishes, Dee Kitson (Last Ladies Forum President)

Meetings during the year considered annual awards of Life Membership and 2021 Ball Legend in the Club’s 125th year. The Heritage Committee was proud to announce Marc Webb as the 2021 Optus WAFL Premiership Season Subiaco Ball Legend. Webb has a long list of accomplishments that led to the Club’s decision to appoint him as Subiaco’s 2021 Ball Legend. Marc played 176 league games between 2002 and 2010, captaining the Club over four years (2005-08). During his time at Subiaco, Marc won four Premierships in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008, whilst also collecting a Simpson Medal in 2006. Other accomplishments includes: 2003 Outridge Medallist, 2009 SFC Life Member, 2015 SFC Diehard, 2005-07 WA State Representative, 2011 SFC Assistant Coach, 2013 WA State Coach, and 2021 League Premiership Coach. The Heritage Committee couldn’t think of a more deserving Subi person to be honoured as the 2021 Ball Legend. Life Membership nominations of Ben Randall and Rodney Reynolds were endorsed by the Club board and submitted and approved at our AGM last year.
