Pioneer 4 You
iPV Pure X2 Tank Review by The Devil Vaper So, I picked this up from the Pioneer 4 You stand at Vaper Expo 2016 at Birmingham NEC.
A
fter having a look at the tank, the features it has and the coil (or “core” style), I knew this would be different and quite possibly a game changer for the tank market. Upon opening the box, you are met with the very descriptive user manual, the tank body, a drip tip and a spare tank glass if in the unfortunate event, you manage to break yours. Beneath the tray is a pouch of pre-cut cotton strips and a QC certificate. From the outside, the tank looks like any other sub-ohm tank. But it’s what is inside the tank
that makes it different; the SX Pure X2 Core. It is made from an alloy that has been kept secret by the people at iPV, and rightly so! I would say that this core is a new breakthrough in coil technology, and the lifespan has been averaged at about three months. Wicking it is a doddle. Disassemble the tank, unscrew the top of the SX pure coil, cut an organic cotton pad to about an 8mm wide strip, hold either end and slide inside the slots. Put a few drops of your chosen e-liquid onto the wick, screw the top back on, cut the wicks on the side of the core to the required length, fluff them up slightly and you’re good to go. Reassemble the tank, close the airflow up and fill the tank up. As with most tanks, I would recommend you leave it to stand with the airflow closed for five to ten minutes to ensure that the wick has had the chance to saturate itself in the e-liquid. I have used 50/50 VG/PG and Max VG liquids in this tank, and it has no problem wicking at all. Refilling is easy. You just grasp the section below the drip tip and unscrew, you are then met with two large filling holes either side of the centre chimney, large enough to fit your common glass pipettes in. The tank holds roughly 4ml of liquid, which with average usage lasts me a couple of hours.
4
Now, this tank has been recommended to be used only on the iPV 5 and the YiHi SX Mini Q Class, but it can be used on devices that can read down to 0.05 ohms in wattage mode. With the iPV5 and SX Mini, you have to select the SX Pure mode through the Temp Control menu, and then go back into Power Mode to use it properly. There are three airflow holes at the base of the tank and the airflow ring has 4 positions, fully open, one third closed, two thirds closed and fully closed – I personally prefer the airflow fully open. The action is nice and smooth and locks into your required airflow setting easily.
are met with a superior flavour compared to other tanks on the market. Now it comes down to whether I’d recommend it or not. Yes and no. For advanced vapers, yes indeed. I don’t believe that this coil style will be a fad; hopefully it will shape the way for things to come. If you were to compare the flavour to a well built dripper, I would say that it’s three quarters there. Design wise, I think it’s a beautiful looking tank. The only downsides I can find are that it’s best to use your square cotton type pad like Muji, rather than a loosetype cotton like Texas Tuff. You may also be limited to what device you can use it on due to the ohms that the coil reads.
I prefer to fire this at 50w. To me, this wattage produces the best flavour and doesn’t compromise on the clouds. On your average three to four second inhale your taste buds

interview
Vaping Biker I’m a YouTube reviewer and occasional blogger. No juice reviews due to having taste buds as delicate as a house-brick - I concentrate on hardware and shiny stuff. I have a preference for the airier side of things and I’m a bit of a fan of the cloudage, however, I enjoy a nice subtle ‘gentleman’s vape’ now and then when I’m focused on a bit of flavour, or in a situation where blowing clouds isn’t a great idea – I’m certainly not a Mouth To Lung vaper though.
How significant a part of life is vaping?
class with a Dotmod Petri 1.5 (just because it matches and
is a good mix of flavour and medium clouds).
Incredibly so, the health benefits compared with smoking, the fantastic community, the hobbyist aspect, and the friends I’ve made have all made a significant, positive influence on my world. What’s your ‘all day vape’? Difficult to answer, as a reviewer, I’m generally vaping on whatever is in my review queue at any given time, however, I often have a tank setup, a squonking setup, and something fun and cloudy going at any one time. Current favourites are the Vapor Giant Mini in the Smoant Knight V1, the Halcyon DNA200 Squonker from Lost Vape with the Velocity V2, and an SX mini Q 7
interview What trends have you noticed? There’s definitely been a strong influx of really good affordable gear, both with atomisers and mods. Rebuilding has definitely been on the increase as well, even in 2014 building your own coils wasn’t close to being as popular as it is now - certainly not with the works of art coming out from some people these days. How long have you been vlogging on YouTube and what’s changed in that time? My first vaping video was in Oct 2014, but I don’t feel I seriously invested myself into the channel until June/July 2015. Obviously sub-ohming has gained spectacular momentum over the last couple of years, and since the Atlantis back in 2014, airy sub-ohm tanks and RDTAs have changed the scenery of vaping. We’ve also had the injection of temp limiting devices and they’re growing in accuracy and usefulness seemingly monthly (Stainless Steel for the win by-the-way). How has your experience affected your reviewing process? My process has always been to try to produce content that comes across like 8
you’re down the pub with a mate and talking about vaping. I try not to jump-cut, and experience reviewing has allowed me to be more at ease in front of the camera which I think is in context to the ‘chatting with a mate’ kind of vibe. Who’s inspired you most in the vape community? That’s a tough one! Reviewers like Mark Todd and Igetcha69 have always made me want to improve my content, production, and variety of products. Otherwise, other vaping reviewers, modmakers and vapers themselves constantly surprise me and make me want to be better at what I do. What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you while recording? Generally burping or having a complete brain-fart, and forgetting how to speak words. I have recorded a review just after lunch and didn’t realise until I uploaded it that half my tomato soup was still in my beard! That got taken down and re-shot pretty quickly! Otherwise, I don’t really get embarrassed, we all make cock-ups so learn to embrace the idiot moments and don’t take things too seriously.
Who or what makes you laugh? My 15 year old Springer Spaniel, Dizzy. She’s old, a bit porky, going deaf, half blind, daft as a brush, and thick as
custard (all very similar to Mark Todd now I think about it ;-)) and makes me LOL on a daily basis. She’s awesome. Do you have any hidden talents?
I don’t know about talents, but obviously I ride motorbikes (Honda Shadows), and have taught myself fabrication, metal shaping, and welding, all in order to build or customise them (with varying degrees of
success over the years). Plus I’m getting back into guitar, but recent videos I’ve played on testify use of the word ‘talent’ could be a stretch. What is the greatest luxury in your life? Being able to relax with people in life I care about (and Dizzy of course). What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into this industry? Be passionate about it. In reviewing it’s not all freebies and an hour a week in front of a camera, it’s a lot of personal investment of time and money, plus a pretty damn strong commitment, it’s expensive and you have to give up a lot to do it well – most of all though, have integrity and be yourself. If it’s working in a B&M then passion needs to be there, and also a desire to listen to your customer and help to meet their needs, not just throwing a starter kit at them. Nobody knows everything, keep an open mind, keep learning, and remember, regardless of starter kit or high end, clouds or flavour, big or low watts, everyone is vaping for the same underlying reason, learn as much as you can about it all. Thanks very much and ‘ave it LARGE! 9

BLIND Taste Test By Matt Lockyer
N
ow it’s my turn to have a go at the blind taste review. The bottles I was sent had white labels and were numbered 1, 2 and 3. I was given absolutely no information about these samples so this review is based purely on the smell and taste of the juices. I will be dripping all of these on my RDA with a .18 build.
getting grapefruit or similar citrus flavours. There is quite a bit going on with this juice, you need a good few hits to determine the taste, sending my taste buds crazy. It’s a nice flavour but not an all-day vape for me, one I’d save to switch things up after work maybe. Something different is always good. Juice 2. This is hard to describe. It’s not my favourite flavour but I really love the smell. You get loads of blackberry on the inhale and possibly some

kit review
FOR ALL THE BUILDERS OUT THERE Coil Master V2 coil building kit and 521 tab ohms reader by Charlii Morgan
T
his review is for all the guys and girls that build! The guys from sub-ohm recently gave me a Coil Master set for my birthday and asked me to write a little bit about what I think of it. The kit comes wrapped in a protective plastic packet to keep the case from damage. Upon opening it I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, and obvious effort, that has gone into its design and manufacture. Coil Master has a great product here. Included is a pair of wire cutters, pliers, foldable scissors, ceramic tweezers, a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips head screwdriver, a small ohms reader, 10ft
12
spoil of 24g kanthal wire, a rubber block containing an Allen key and six different sized posts, with attachments. It also has an empty space filled with foam which I use to keep 2x18650 batteries in and, finally, the authenticity card which confirms that it’s the real deal. As this kit is for building coils, I only used what was in the kit to make two standard coils. First, I cut a length of wire from the spool. Next, I chose which thickness post to use. (This is the diameter of the inside of the coil). For these coils I chose 2mm wire and pushed it through the small hole on the wrapping
post keeping it anchored. The post adapter in this kit has two holes which allows you to wrap parallel coils. I began to wrap, six wraps plus the ‘legs.’ I used my nail to keep the wraps pushed tightly together. To install the coil into the RDA, I used the same post I had wrapped the coil with to keep it straight and level, and inserted the legs of the coil into pegs. It was the same thing for the other side.
I tightened the screws with the Phillips screwdriver. These screwdrivers are particularly easy to use because they have a movable part at the top so you can put pressure on it and twist it at the same time. To find out the ohms of my coils, I twisted my RDA onto the ohms reader. This takes two AA batteries, has an on/ off switch and also a volt meter for your batteries/mod. The initial ohms reading on one coil was 0.51 however, after installing the second coil, it read 0.24. To make sure the coils are tight, and to clear any hotspots, heat needs to be put through them. I unscrewed my RDA from the ohms reader and attached it to my mod. Using the ceramic tweezers I put heat through the coils and squeezed them together. (Using metal tweezers, whilst applying heat, is very dangerous and will cause the coils to short out.)
This box takes a single 18650 which is handier for a vaper than two AA batteries! The ohms reader features an ohm meter, a voltage reader for mods, a coil building deck and the ability to burn coils. It essentially works as a mod. You can attach your RDA/ atomiser and use the reader to put power through it. It has non slip pads on the bottom, which is great when you’re exerting pressure through coils. There is a switch on the side which changes the meter between ohms and volts. There is a blue light that indicates when it’s fire mode so no accidental firing!
We all know that it’s a bit of a pain moving RDA’s between ohms readers and mods and it looks like Coil Master have come up with a solution! They’ve produced the 521 Tab ohms and volts reader.
After putting heat through my coils and making sure I was happy with them, it was time to wick it! Coil Master has made this particularly easy with the tweezers and cotton, which come individually
wrapped in little packs of five. Using a small amount of the cotton, I shaped it and pulled it through with the pointed tweezers. The foldable scissors are perfect for cutting off any excess cotton - although I often use wire cutters! And the tweezers are perfect for fluffing up and tucking in the ends of the cotton. The ohms reader comes with an authenticity card, a USB cable for charging the battery, two wires with crocodile clips and an adaptor for reading the volts through your mod. The presentation case and the rest of the packaging is well designed and sturdy giving an overall feel that the device is quality and made with care. Keep up the good work Coil Master, your products are awesome! This is truly a nice addition to my collection. 13
juice review
Pocket Fuel
GOURMET ELIQUID Review by Vaping Pogonophile I am delighted to bring you a review of three juices from the Pocket Fuel Gourmet Eliquid range: Cherry Pie, Pink Fizz and Blue Raspberry. This review is a little different as I have concentrated on the aroma and flavour of the liquids. Cherry Pie The scent - a strong ripe cherry, comes across quite sweet, but more like a sugar coated cherry. The flavour - I get two tones of cherry from this juice. On the inhale there is the taste of freshly picked cherries with an undertone of pastry although it is delicate. The exhale is when this juice delivers a mighty explosion of very ripe, rich, dark cherries leaving your mouth salivating for more. The juice brings back childhood memories of helping my grandma pick cherries from her tree in the garden and her making a wonderful pie for tea from our harvest that had a melt in the mouth, light flaky pastry. Though it wouldn’t hurt for a little more pastry flavour, this delightful juice is definitely an all-day vape for me.
Pink Fizz The scent - A very sweet strawberry comes first with an after smell of what I can only describe as opening a pack of refreshers. The flavour - On the inhale there is an excellent candy strawberry, but it is the exhale that you will be waiting for. The exhale gives the sensation like champagne does when the bubbles burst over your tongue and the roof of your mouth. I found this a refreshing and exciting vape. My first thoughts on this juice was to a strawberry sherbet or pink refreshers, but after vaping further I would rather describe it as a pink champagne in reverse. It is not quite an all-day vape for me, but certainly a juice I would enjoy occasionally.
Blue Raspberry The scent – A slightly sweet raspberry. The flavour - Straight from the off, this superb juice gives you a sugar coated raspberry on the inhale, with a beautifully blended mix of raspberry and blueberry on the exhale. The fruits come through sweetened but juicy and true to the fresh fruit. There are hints that this juice is like a blue slushy but for me this juice is mucAh better, not as watery and sweet. The fruits are excellent. I have really enjoyed this juice and again is indeed an allday vape for me. 15

My go-to mod:

Mosfet is installed in these mods as a safety feature along with reverse polarity protection and a powerful chip, which has a top output of 200W and advanced temperature control functions. 16
Comment: After a lot of excitement and anticipation, I opened the wrapping and out came my new WISMEC REULEAUX RX200 in a velvet feel foam casing, a USB cable, an authentication card, a battery safety notice (nice to see Wismec care about our safety!) and a quick guide on how to use the mod. The design by Jay Bo and creation by Wismec resulted in a fantastic looking mod. It is aesthetically pleasing and its shape fits nicely in the hand with good access to all the buttons. Having taken a good look at the device itself, I turned my attention to what it can do and had a little vape. After a standard five clicks to unlock, away we go. The ‘clicky-ness’ and connectivity of the firing button sets this box mod apart from others. It is fast and has a powerful feel not unlike a mechanical mod. The ramp up time on this mod is impressive. It works well with tanks and drippers, which the three 18650 batteries do well with. This is an upgrade against competitors where I have noticed diminished battery life in other mods I’ve used. The screen is bright and has a stealth mode which turns the screen light off when not wanted, and sits flush against the face plate. Jay Bo has his name inscribed on the firing button, which is a nice touch. Reuleaux have
also printed their logo on the top of the mod. It is small, almost unnoticeable, which adds to its smart and neat appearance. The micro USB port is on the face plate below the screen. There are not a lot of cons for this box mod, in my opinion. For me, the lack of options or modes available is a bit of a disappointment. I would have liked to see a memory mode when using it in wattage mode. I don’t think using three 18650 batteries is a con as the power output is worth it, however, a downside to this could be the need to have a charger that will fit at least three batteries. Now for the best bit - the pros: The packaging and box it comes in are well designed and good quality, ensuring good protection. The batteries I have mentioned before and I will again. The power and battery life itself is remarkable. While this mod does need batteries with an output above 25 amps and they should be for high drain devices, it does seem to save battery life when not in use. The overall design of this mod gives it a sleek look and the venting holes do not take away from this. The weight is good - not too heavy considering the batteries, the shape fits well in hand and the 510 spring loaded thread adds to the pros. It has good balance and doesn’t fall over easily. This is now my go-to mod - the best I have had the privilege to review to date.

a great success! Last month Vaper Expo UK was back at Birmingham NEC for its second year. Another gathering of hardcore vapers for three straight days, with a guest appearance from Charlie Sloth, cloud chasing competitions and vape gear galore it was another complete success. So much of a success they are doing it all again in October, so keep a look out for that! Our photographer was there and he caught all the best bits. Enjoy...

interview
Charlie Sloth
We caught up with Europe’s biggest Hip-Hop DJ Charlie Sloth who launched his Fatties Juice at Vaper Expo 2016. How long have you been vaping for and how did it start?
Have you ever mixed your own juices before doing this?
I started with an e cigarette about four years ago to quit smoking and I ain’t had a ciggy since.
I tried to yeah, I made a black jack that I really liked, like the sweets. I was bare proud of that.
What is your favourite juice? Fatties Juice all the way, that’s all I’m vaping now, just straight Fatties. It’s out of Big Man Ting and Red Cow, I like Iced Out, but I think it’s Big Man Ting.
30
How did you decide the juices in your range? Me and Totally Wicked sat down and thought about what flavours would work and what people who are into Charlie Sloth would like. We came up with a few flavours that we are really pleased with.
Have you ever built a coil?
so easy for me on the road.
YEAH! To be honest, I used to love building my own coils and dripping, but where I’m on the road all the time now, it’s a lot harder to maintain. It’s easier for me when I just have it in a tank.
Do you vape when you DJ?
What’s your set up at the moment? Well, I’ve got everything - but right now I’m vaping the JoyTech Cuboid 150, the aspire mega tank with the new nickel coils. They are sick. Like SICK! And I love this tank. It makes it
Just online. Listen, I get into trouble quite a lot because all the pictures that are taken involve me vaping and you’re not meant to be vaping in the clubs. Literally 90% of the pictures you see of me from the clubs include me toking or exhaling. Did you enjoy Vaper Expo 2016 Yeah I loved it! Can’t wait til the next one! 31
ohm brew
READY STEADY VAPE! by Martin Norton
When Charlie from Subohm asked me to participate in an article called “Ready steady vape” I thought why not - it was a chance to try some new flavours and let others know how they tasted.
I
received my package from Decadent Vapours. It was a bright green padded envelope and which stood out from the rest of my mail and looked great. Inside were 12 bottles/6 flavours. The packaging of the bottles looked cool - black and white with a vintage feel to them. The flavours were Peppermint, Strawberrino, Purpello, White Grape, Brekzest and ……Roast Beef.
My initial reaction was not a bad selection, until I came to the Roast Beef - I didn’t fancy vaping an Oxo cube!!!
touch of exotic” was fresh and I definitely got the strawberry from this, but I’ll go into that more with my mix review.
So how did the flavours smell?
The Purpello is a blackcurrant boiled sweet flavour and smelled sweet with the warm blackcurrant flavour oozing out of the bottle.
Well, the Peppermint was lovely - like a piece of Kendal mint cake in a bottle. The Strawberrino, which is described as being “fresh summer strawberry with a
The White Grape had a light and fragrant aroma - very sweet with a summer vibe. Brekzest smelled like well-done toast, there is a marmalade element to it, but my nose couldn’t find it. It’s an interesting smell - who knew you could bottle the smell of toast? Finally, Roast Beef, what can I say? It definitely had a savoury smell - like a beef stock cube and I was not sure how to use this.
32
Anyway, I started thinking how I could mix them. The first combination I decided on was peppermint and strawberrino, which I called pepperberry! Mint is such a versatile flavour that I was sure they would go! The mixing ratio was 15% strawberrino to 5% peppermint.
investing in large amounts of concentrate. I opened up the e-liquid recipes page, typed the percentages and quantities into the ‘create a recipe’ and that worked out how much of each ingredient I needed. Once I had all the information I prepared my syringes, clean bottles and ingredients. I measured out the concentrates into the respective bottles. I then measured out the VG that I wanted (I made max VG juice, but you could use a PG/VG mix just change the ingredients mix on the ‘create a recipe’ page of e-liquid recipes) and added it to each bottle.
Secondly, I decided on purpello, strawberrino and white grape. I felt this would be along the lines of a famous fruity drink and I called it Strimto. This was 10% purpello, 5% strawberrino and 5% white grape. Lastly I decided on a toasted beef sandwich, using the brekzest and roast beef. For this I used 15% brekzest and 5% roast beef. Once I had chosen the percentages I needed to decide on the quantities. I opted for 20ml of each flavour, as I wanted to see how they tasted before
good shake. Both Strimto and Roast Beef Sandwich remained clear after shaking but Pepperberry had a slight haze to it; this was the oils in the peppermint flavour and nothing to worry about.
I labelled them up and left them in a cupboard, with the caps off so they could breathe for 24 hours. A day later I screwed the caps back on and gave them another good shake. I then left them for six days to steep. (Remember a basic rule is one week for fruity flavours and one month+ for custards).
I decided not to add nicotine as these were testers but you could add the nicotine as some say it affects the flavour but personally, I have not noticed this. Once each bottle had been filled I gave them a
Roll on a week and they were ready to vape! For this I used an Aspire Cleito tank, 0.4 ohm coil on a Jaybo rx200. First I tried the Pepperberry. I filled my tank, let it sit for 5 mins to permeate the wick, and then had a hit at 50 watts. WOW! The peppermint hits you, cool
33
ohm brew as an extra strong mint, leaving my mouth feeling clean and fresh. Then the strawberry comes through. (When I choose strawberries in the supermarket, I love to smell them first.) The aroma of a punnet filled with the fragrance of perfectly ripe strawberries, is exactly what I tasted. It was a refreshing vape that would be lovely on a warm summer’s day. I would probably reduce the peppermint to 3% and the strawberrino to 17% to get a stronger strawberry flavour. The Strimto had a strong fruity smell which I vaped in the same device with a fresh coil and the same
wattage. This came across as lovely and warm. I could taste each component of this mix. I enjoyed this and could imagine vaping it on a cold day. You could definitely taste the blackcurrant and white grape, the strawberrino was a
little lost, so maybe tweak the recipe to up the strawberrino percentage. All in all a good vape. Lastly I tried the toasted beef sandwich. Well, as soon as I smelled this, I was not impressed. I should say that I’m not into savoury vapes. This was not pleasant to smell and as soon as I tried it I knew it was not for me. I could taste the beef taste and the toast but it was not pleasant. I only had a few hits and quickly concluded it was not for me. But this is simply down to my mixing skills and personal taste, not a negative point for the concentrate. My overall opinion of these concentrates and recipes is that they are a quality product that can be mixed easily. My recipes need a little tweaking, but are very vapable. So head over to Decadent Vapours and give them a go. Maybe you can come up with a cool recipe that other people will love!
