That includes bar staff, ushers and the media team. 8 In 2010 Plan B smashed Summer Ball, with hits from his just released album, ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’ such as ‘She Said’ & ‘Love goes down’.
6 Prior to 2003, only 1/4 of the Summer Ball goers wore fancy dress. From then onwards, the theme ideas went crazy!
9 Coach travel to and from Summer Ball, departing from The Old Fire Station is all included in the ticket, so no transport worries!
7 One of the Summer Ball 2003 ents crew later went on to become PA to Bestival & Radio 1 legend Rob da Bank. The stage team leader from 1999 ball got headhunted for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy!
5 2005 was a year full of stories: Royksopp brought their Glastonbury festival set to the ball, (they could barely fit on our stage) and supports Phantom Planet just squeezed on at the front to play their O.C. smash hit, ‘California’…twice. It was also the first year we had a proper Big Top festival tent, DJ Colin Murray got the staff dancing on the bar and played footie with everyone on the beach at dawn.
4 2007 saw The Ordinary Boys hit up BU Summer Ball after lead singer Preston got together with Chantelle in the Big Brother house. Openers this year were little known act N-dubz for just £150!
3 A full on, glittering fairground brings the vast and impressive field to life. You can ride the Ferris wheel or jump on the dodgems and all at no extra cost.
1 SUBU Summer Ball is the leading fancy dress Uni Summer Ball in the UK and ends each year with a survivors photo on Bournemouth Beach. The strap line for several years was ‘Nothing Compares’… and this still holds true.
2. Summer Ball partnered with Bestival in their formative years to bring you an eclectic artist mix with performers like The Cuban Brothers.
