YOUR STUDENT COUNCILS Meet the successful candidates from the 2014/15 Student Council Elections...

F

ollowing a hard fought week of voting and campaigning, we are delighted to finally reveal the Part-Time Officers who will be representing you and ensuring your voice is heard. Over sixty students ran in the Part Time Officer Elections, all competing for a place on the Student Council of 2014/15.

Coordinator Sophie Bradfield played a key role in the organisation of the election and was delighted with how the week had gone. "The elections were awesome. I’m really proud of all the candidates and all their amazing campaigns, we all had loads of fun."”

The council is split in to four different sections; the Activities Council, Education Council, Lansdowne Council, and the Welfare Council.

First up for the elected officers is an extensive weekend of training, ensuring they are able to deliver on their responsibility of helping SUBU make a positive impact on every student’s journey.

Those elected will have a huge say in the way in which the Students’ Union is run, both on the main University campuses, and across the various partner colleges.

For a full rundown of the winners in SUBU’s Student Council Elections , and to find out more check out www.subu.org.uk.

STUDENT REPS EXPLAINED... We have Student Reps at all the regional Partner Colleges of BU. Whether you’re on a Franchised or Validated course you should have a Student Rep to ensure your voice is heard! Student Reps are there to get feedback from you and feed this into relevant meetings at your place of study, to

ensure that changes can happen based on your feedback. Training of these Reps has already started so look out for your Rep! And when they’re asking you for your opinions and feedback but sure you give them some time.

REP Q&A THIS EDITION

JONNY CROCKETT

LINK REP FROM BOURNEMOUTH & POOLE COLLEGE

There are one or two Link Reps for each Partner College; their role is to represent the students and Student Reps at their Partner College and act as a SUBU representative for those students. If you see your Link Reps around at your College...feel free to ask them anything!

so that they can make the most of their experience at BU. What’s the best thing about studying at your Partner College? Being part of a smaller college can sometimes mean you don’t get all the best facilities that are offered on other courses at other campuses, however one-on-one time with lecturers and tutors is always available so there is an aspect of tailored teaching going on. Being in a smaller group is also helpful in discussions as everyone has a chance to make their points heard.

What are you looking forward to this year within the role? I’m looking forward to talking with new and old students about the issues that they feel are important to having a fun university experience whilst also getting the most from their course and What made you want to be a Link teachers. Rep? Having previously studied at Talbot What’s an interesting fact about Campus as well, I’m familiar with the yourself? facilities and activities that they offer I’m half kiwi!
