There’s a way to experience a lot more freedom, success and excitement in your life. It takes a lot of courage and will feel totally unnatural especially for us Singaporeans. Wonder why? Well, let’s do a little experiment. Try drawing a house right now. Go ahead and put the windows in, fill in all the details. Take your time and make it as nice as you like.
One question: Does your house have a chimney? Why do we all draw houses with chimneys when NONE of our houses here even have chimneys! And if you look at the door and the windows, I’m pretty sure their position is extremely disproportionate. Ever stopped to wonder why? So why is going against the grain such a challenge for most of us? The answer lies in our past. Remember in school, we were all taught to draw a house the same way. If we started to draw something different, we’d be “corrected” until we developed the “habit” of staying within the artificial boundaries given to us.

Because of this early conditioning, most people end up living their lives this way “inside the house” – our “comfort zone”. A comfort zone being an area of security, familiarity, and what others have taught us is “appropriate”.
Anything or anyone who doesn’t fit in with the “norm” often pays the price of disapproval and scorn. Because not being accepted, liked, and even loved is our primary fear. So, most people do their best to follow conventional wisdom and fit into the mold. This not only creates our limits but also crushes our spirit. It takes “guts” to be different; to stand out from the crowd; to break free from the “Attack of the Clones” society and be a true individual. The Success Paradox Society creates a paradox; first it tells us not to be different, but then it pays us big money for doing so. Look at Madonna, Elvis, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, Amazon, PayPal. These people created their own style and stood up for what they believed in. They drew houses that looked different, maybe even weird – and won! Being ordinary is “boring” and is a success killer.

The real problem is that for most of us, our spirits were crushed early on. We need to start recognizing that when others criticize you, they do so out of fear. They’re only telling you “no” or “you can’t” because they’re too afraid to try it for themselves. But you can be sure that deep inside, they secretly admire and applaud you for being brave enough for breaking free and wishing they had the courage to do the same. Let their criticism inspire you so that you can, in turn, be their inspiration! Dare to be Different Instead of quashing your individuality, celebrate your uniqueness. Instead of getting lost in the crowd, dare to stand out! Get creative. Do something extraordinary. Be unusual. Let go of worrying about what other people think of you.
Whatever business you are in, figure out a way to do it, package it, or market it differently than everyone else. Start to think differently about money and investments. Remember, the masses are broke. Therefore, to be rich you must think differently and act differently. Buy when everyone else is selling. Sell when everyone else is buying. You will not only feel a renewed energy but dramatically increase your income and wealth in the process!
